SMWCentral Santa Patches (Second batch!)

It appears Santa left quite a few patches underneath the tree last night! Be sure to review and leave constructive criticism on the level that was made for you. Also, mention whether the level designer deserves the badge or not, as this makes it easier for us to see which designers made removal-log-worthy levels.

Hmmm... Nice the first batch of patches is here now! Thank you Santa Claus! It seems the person which is making a level for me didn't make it yet. And it seems I was making level for GN. I saw him several times and I remember he was pretty nice. His request was great and I enjoyed making the level very much. I hope you like "Nighttime Adventures", GN! Merry Christmas to everyone!

I'm a bit disappointed to see my level not ready, but at least there's time to do a good job on it! I gave out a pretty tough theme, so I guess the extension is for the best.


I hope Masterlink enjoys my level even if I did rush it a bit.

Oh my lord, thank you SO much to the guy who made my level, I haven't beat it yet, but I am so happy with it. Sure the palletes could stand to be a bit better, but its amazing, thanks.



Also, I am done with my level, except I can't get the music working, thats what made me miss this deadline, oy.

Finally returning to this awesome hobby!

Storm Kyleis made my level:

“Ghostly Volcano”

My idea was:
“I'd like a level that puts a ghost house inside a volcano, meaning lots of lava along with
creepy critters together in one level”

Storm Kyleis did a magnificent job with this idea and created just the kind of level I was hoping for.

The atmosphere is amazing and I love the variety of palettes used.

The length was good and didn’t drag on or feel to fall short.

The dark rooms provide an interesting challenge where you must be patient and move with extreme caution to survive, nice addition.

Then there were the freaky looking enemies! They certainly fit the atmosphere of the level and gave it an even creepier feel.

I did wonder about the one koopa that you could carry around at one of the doors. Not sure if it was for effect or if it holds some secret. I’ll go back later and check again.

My only criticism would be some of the enemy placement. I got blind sighted a few times, mainly by the flying enemies. Also quite a few enemies will just walk of the ledges making them a very low threat.

However that doesn’t take too much away from the level and I still ended up loving it. Great job!

Definitely give this guy a badge!

Same here. Looks like my recipient will have to wait until New Years to see my level.

As for the level that was made for me... considering who was making the it, I was both surprised and relieved he didn't try to toss in shoddy Touhou referrence, so that's a big plus. Overall a good level, though some spots were a slightly misleading in terms of what was solid and what was a ledge and at one point, I walked through a cloud ramp. So yeah, Merry Christmas!

And now I have to go out of town for the day.

My level was made by MajorasMask9, I'll post the review here.

When I saw the name Scalding Desert I though "I don't recall asking for a desert, is this really for me?", but after getting through some screens, I realized that in fact it was my level. My request had many possibilities, as all I asked for was a fire themed level with ghosts, and Scalding Desert had both. Although I have to say I expected something a bit more fiery and boiling, but the my request said it could be “anything that goes through your mind”, so I can't blame you; besides, it was an original idea. It would have been nice if you made it a nighttime level tough. I like how you made those ghost podoboos, by the way.

Design-wise, the level had a couple of flaws, but overall it was good. I like how you combined the moving sand with the boos to make a hard-to-pass obstacle.

All in all, the level wasn't exactly what I expected, as I said before, but it was nice and original, so I'm not disappointed at all. I say you should get the badge.

The concept for my level was a world one swamp castle.

It was very visually appealing and started out how i imagined it would. There was a bit of item hauling but well executed and and camera started at odd spots when exiting a pipes. Overall it was what i ask for and i was please with everything.7/10. It's badge worthy.

I'm not really one to review other hacks, but it's basically what I asked for. There were some graphical glitches, but I'm not going to hold it against the guy because I saw he said he was having trouble with my request since it asked for sprites from different tilesets. I didn't like the aesthetics of the cement blocks in the water, but overall I thought it was fun to play through.

Not sure of you're experience level in making hacks, but if you're just starting out, this is about similar to what my first levels were like. There's definitely a lot of room for improvement.

But I still give you an A for effort :).

DANG it why did I not think of this! I spent forever trying to figure out how I could make that seem more like a ghost level, and night would have been perfect for that.

I was pretty rushed in making that level in general, but I'm glad you like it!

I'm somewhat disappointed that I didn't make the first deadline - but I hope it's okay for whoever is receiving my level.

Original idea: A nighttime glacier level that uses line guides.

Oh well, I see Teo17 made a level for me, and he sure as hell did not disappoint (: Everything I asked for, wrapped in a nice batch of graphics, a good atmosphere and nice palette work. The level design was very varied, challenging but fair, and most importantly fun.

Pretty much the only issue I had was that the second section felt somewhat out of place compared to the other two, due to it using vanilla SMW graphics. The backgrounds in all three segments were very nice to look at and fitting, though, and added a lot to the atmosphere.

I was satisfied with playing this. I also recorded a savestateless, blind run through the level, too, which can be seen here.

I'm all for Teo17 getting a badge for making this level. :
