Tip: Linear levels aren't necessarily a bad thing. After all, most official Mario levels are fairly linear. Not logged in.

Hack Name: A One Level Hack - Sunny Beach
Length: 1 level
Author: Ninty - Submitted by: Ninty
Description: This is my first hack, called: " A One Level Hack - Sunny Beach".
It's my first hack so i don't know if it's that good.
This Hack Has:

- Custom Music
- One Level

And don't forget to comment and rate this game! Thank's!

Are you sure this was the hack you wanted to submit? The one level that was changed didn't resemble your screenshots in the slightest. Anyway, it can't hurt to review it nonetheless.

The foreground doesn't look too great, and it probably wasn't made for the default grassland palette either.

It might just be me, but for the beginning of a level this jump seems kind of unfair.

Glitched up tile behavior.

The level design itself (assuming this wasn't some kind of test level you accidentally submitted) could use a lot of work as well. It's rather plain and uninteresting, not even containing a single enemy or obstacle (not counting jumps). For a hack to be accepted here, I'm afraid you'll have to do better than that.

Also, while one-level hacks are perfectly okay, make sure to only make that one level accessible. Keeping the original SMW levels on the map isn't a smart thing to do.

Generally, you should think twice about submitting a hack if it's your first one.
Even if this wasn't the hack you meant to submit, I recommend reading our Hack Submission Guidelines as well as watching this video.

Note: This is a reupload of the previous file. The previous file was the wrong file, so if you downloaded that file download this one instead.

Not sure what WYE played above, but I actually enjoyed the level design in this level that you submitted. I think that with a few exceptions, it was a well-designed level. However...

While we accept one-level hacks, they are normally something that can be played for 10 minutes or more. Typically, the one-level hacks we have accepted are long long gimmicky levels or games that consist of only one level (with sublevels) in the entire game. If you want this to be accepted, I would suggest making an entire world's worth of levels. There's nothing saying you can't show this off from your File Bin or somewhere -- it just doesn't need to be a site-approved hack.

Considering this is only one level, it's good you cut it off from the other levels in the game, per WYE's suggestion. However, again, this is only one level, so...

Water levels should have sprite buoyancy turned on.
Also, why no background? It's kind of boring without one. Possible reason for rejection.

I fit in here, obviously, but is this sort of tightness advisable? I only question it because SMW had nothing like it. Not a reason for removal.

Not a total reason for removal, but the cutoffness here with the pier legs and the water is sort of gross.

^ You don't want your level to have this guy's approval.

It was hard to get a good screenshit of it, but the layer priority of your ground and grass tiles is such that the Goombas float in and out of in front of the ground as they die, which is sort of cutoff and awful looking. Not a reason for removal, but worth fixing.

Speaking of cutoff, what's going on with the top leaves of these plants? Also, the non-background is reaching amazingly boring levels by this point. If you need some help inserting custom backgrounds, just ask me, find a tutorial, or ask around.

Here's one of those areas where your level design goes from good/above average down to lame. What's going on here? Why aren't there some fish or birds or tiki death masks or ledges or coins or a BG or something?

Sort of boring and nondescript as well. I would add stuff here and add tops to those beanstalks.

So, I think you're off to a good start, but I think your level design needs a bit of tweaking. And you also need a full world before submitting. Get some people to beta test your first world, too, once you finish it. Thanks! This is better than most, but not quite ready.

This hack does not meet the following Hack Submission Guidelines:

4. Avoid major graphical glitches.
Errors such as garbled sprites/FGs/BGs, message box text screwing up layer 3 items, floating/stacked/cutoff tiles, and general graphical ugliness are frowned upon. Furthermore, don't forget about glitches which involve the sprite memory - the graphics of the sprite will 'disappear', but the sprite will still be there, and can unfairly hurt Mario.

5. Your hack should be of a reasonable length.
Unless you intend to make your hack contain very long and very high quality levels, demos which are too short to provide any feedback on or be enjoyable will be subject to removal. A general rule of thumb is that the hack should feature at least one complete world with about five levels, or should feature around at least 15 minutes of game time.

[?] Miscellaneous Helpful Hints
If I moderated your hack, there was apparently a 90 percent chance it was rejected.
