Offending Background

I downloaded this for use recently, got it set up and even improved on it a bit... unfortunately, it was only after this that I realized that it uses colors that the status bar uses. In order to look good, it has to overwrite the status bar colors, destroying it in the process. This is even in direct violation of one of the "tips of the day" shown at the top of the site:

"Don't overwrite the status bar colors with the background's palette."

I also downloaded this one and found that it has a similar problem, although not nearly as unusable. (It only overwrites three colors instead of all ten.)

I have to wonder how many more backgrounds by this creator have this problem, or if any others have the same problem overall...
I've found several ExGFX that overwrite the status bar colors, and it might have to do with our standards increasing as time goes on. Either find graphics that don't overwrite the status bar, create your own ExGFX, or fix the palettes. (iirc there is a way to do it but I don't remember what it is)
Yes, unfortunatelly some ExGFX creators are too lazy to fix it, so we wanto to do it manually, changing the Map16 tiles palette and before transfering the colors. It's pretty much boring, but's doable.

There is going to be a massive GFX moderation in the future that will solve all these problem, Unfortunately, I probably won't start it until after SMWCP2 is completed since that take up most of the little free time I have.

To fix the issue however should be easy as you can just copy and paste the palette to a different row and mass change it to your new palette with the map16 editor.

What's amazing is that background looks easy enough to have on pallete 0 or 1 without overwriting any status bar stuff. Oh, that Pac...

Palettes that overwrite the status bar colors aren't the only thing to look out for. BG ExGFX that don't come with a sample level, FG and BG ExGFX that don't come with the needed Map16 Page(s), and any ExGFX that doesn't come with a palette shouldn't be available either.
When some BG's mess up the status bar palette, why not use the Sprite Status Bar? This should have correct colour I think. If you want the normal one, you'd need to change palette rows for the BG.

Because you shouldn't have to a patch a status bar fix for a bg problem.

It's kind of unfortunate that there's so many ExGFX lacking proper files or not following basic guidelines. A recent BG file I downloaded lacked every file but the binary itself... it was rather pitiful.

Anyways I used Lightvayne's suggestion and just simply nixed a few objects that used the palette rows I replaced so now I've worked around the issue, at least for that level. Thanks.
