Me and Raibys have been working on this for a while - I do the coding, and Raibys designs the universe. We have a blog set up here if you want to see more of this. Enough talk, here's some screenshots.

Or if screenshots don't convince you, how about a video of really big robots fighting each other?

This should work on all Windows platforms from XP onwards. (Sorry, Mac and Linux users... making cross-platform stuff is really difficult.) The installation instructions are included, so make sure you read them. In order to get a release for C3, I cut a few features short, but it's all minor things, usually relating to random extras.

This is all deeply interconnected with SMWC - as an organic being destroys wave after wave of digital enemies, one is reminded of Chester's attempts to delete the evil System. Do not give in to System's mechanical web of lies! Support the one true savior of SMWC, the almighty Chester!
(And this should totally count double, since Raibys has an equal share in this project and he's with Chester too.)
This game looks awesome. I'll give it a try when I get onto a Windows computer.
I've been sneaking glances at this from time to time. It has an awfully unique combination of environment and sprite design, to say the least, and the video reminds me somewhat of that Blockman stage from Mischief Makers or the rideable mech stages in the Mega Man X series. I guess it's probably about time I gave it a try :b

This looks really promising. The visual style elements kind of remind me of the game I am drawing for in a college group project, I really like it! As for the video you showed; I really loved that unique drivable mech feature that most games seem to miss the point of now-a days.

Although I mentions I loved the visual style I'd have to say the the constant flickering of the environment is a little distracting which maybe could ruin some atmosphere you are intending to create with it, personally I'd just make the foreground a little darker to prevent this. Alternatively; just ignore me because this a bit a of subjective nit pick since it seems to be pretty hard to find something to improve on judging from a video and screen shots :P.

Oh man, that's REALLY awesome. I love the visual style and all the effects look great, and the gameplay sounds interesting. Gonna download this!
Easily one of the best projects ever showcased on this site. As someone who has been testing this game for ages, I must urge everyone unsure about playing because "it's not SMW" to just go ahead and download it. The gameplay is loads of fun, the characters and enemies have a lot of personality, and the presentation is simply outstanding.

This is Azure, working hard on making an awesome game:

This is Azure, when awful people don't play her awesome game, just because it isn't SMW:

Don't be an awful person. Play it now. For the bunny.
Whoa, I wasn't expecting a C3 release of this. FULL game, you say? Definitely downloading.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
I hadn't really followed this until now, but I downloaded it and tried a few missions - it's superbly done. The controls take a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, shooting and alternating between weapons is intuitive and fun. The sheer amount of weapons and the mixed attacks reminded me a lot of Kirby 64 and were really cool to experiment with. Using different mechanics in the missions (Break the Targets-inspired one was my favorite!) makes things really varied and feels like great training for Endless Mode.

The universe and artwork are fantastic too. I also love the little touches (i.e. the health low sound effect to the beat of the song, all the artwork) throughout the game.

If you're looking at this thread but on the fence, you should really give it a shot. It's a refreshing change of pace and clearly a labor of love.
----------------

It's a fun little game, the visuals are very nice (although it does get pretty hectic at times, which isn't a bad thing since it was designed to be that way). I kinda suck at it though, oh well, that's what practice is for. Definitely a game everyone should try.

Red Tales: Part 1: Hack is being worked on. Committed to finishing this time

There's an option to do exactly that, which is shown when you boot up the game (and available on the options menu at any time too). You can turn off almost all the stage animations to make it easier on your eyes.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone! I actually wasn't expecting this to be so popular here, since it's pretty much the opposite of Mario World. It's also good to know that at least one other person remembers the Blockman stage.

This needs more love. It really needs some. I love the graphics (kudos to you Raibys!) and I love the missions and I love THE ENEMIES = they're a mix of kiddish boy awesomeness, and adorably awesome graphics!

Great job on this - though, still on Mission 4 :/
Played this, and its my favourite game now!
Really, awesome, especially the quick+plasma+electric combo, my favourite #w{:>}!

So glad to hear you (and everyone else who has given feedback here!) like our game!

Well actually, I'm technically not the one responsible for the graphics though - or at least not entirely. I may have been the one who designed pretty much every little enemy and character you see in this game, but Azure is the one who actually turned said designs into the graphics that are implemented into the game. Oh yeah, and she also made everything shiny and pretty.

To be more specific about the main things I did for this game, I:

*Created the universe and concept this game takes place in
*Designed (almost) every creature and character you see
*Named every single weapon in the game (yeah, all 200 or so of them :P)
*Designed some of the levels for the game
*Consulted with Azure on countless little ideas and details here and there regarding how the enemies should behave, tweaks to many of the various weapons, and lots of other minor stuff like that.

Meanwhile, Azure is the more amazing of the two of us, heh...she is the one who programmed everything, made the music, modeled the enemies, and did plenty of other things that are much more impressive than anything I can do myself. ;P

Really it has been a wonderful experience working with such a wonderful person. And seeing that people seem to be enjoy what she and I have made together is very fulfilling as well. Thank you, everyone! ^_^

I don't know if it's really supposed to be Light of Ra, but either way it sounds cool.

It is. Ra is the Egyptian god of the sun.

I'm glad people are playing this, and getting an LP would be great! It should wait until the next release though, which fixes some things. (The C3 release of this was rushed since it was a week earlier than I thought it was...) I should have the new version done tomorrow unless something goes wrong.

I have to say that this game is really well done! It's so much fun to go through, and when I played it during my break at school, people gathered around me and asked what game I was playing and where I got it =D

The only huge problem with this, and probably is bad, is that it takes too much of my time - it's addicting <3

In all seriousness, I'll be waiting for that update <3
Posting for encouragement.

Finish this thing. If either of you are shooting for a career in game creation, this is a incredibly good thing to put on a resume.
or you can make it mainstream
