First: I have a co-worker! He is a very good friend and we're in the same year and school. He (Bug)Tested all my levels and picked up hacking again shortly after seeing my first levels. A few days ago he showed me a level he made and I thought: Hmm, I planned 75 levels in this hack, but I may not have enough time/inspiration/motivation to finish this. So I invited him to work with me on this hack and he happily agreed. Soon he sent me lots of ideas for levels and nice custom music he found and yesterday we worked on a scheme to plan te whole hack. On friday we both have a "Tussenuur" as we call it in dutch. It basically means you have a free period between your lessons.
We'll work and share ideas via chat and school and that free period.
His name on SMWCentral is (If I'm correct) Alfred the Stone. I hope he'll post here soon to introduce himself and his levels .
Second: I haven't been working really hard on a new level. I just improved my older levels and drew some GFX, like a new key and keyhole:
Third: I totally forgot to show the last part of the 3rd swamp level. Here are some screenies!
Hmm, I see now they're in the wrong order Lower_Right:
I'll start here. After some outdoor screens this is the swamp cave. Lower_Left:
In this level you can walk trough some ledges, some even reveal secret passages... Upper_Right
This is a small kindof gimmick part. You can see the level above. But you have to play it in the down part and to make it more challenging, I added some sprites to the down part. Upper_Left
And here you come out of the swamp cave.
Hello Everybody. It's Me, Alfred the Stone and this is the first hack i'm making. Like OHN (Oh Hell No)said in his last post, I tested all his levels and found a few bugs and that sort of things. Thax to OHN I understand how to use and insert ExGFX. After I made my first level.
Thanx for everything and we hope that you will enjoy our hack.
... just be careful, however, to only include detail the player can see. Any more than that and it just wastes bytes.
Also, loving the other screen shots as well. Keep it up!
Thanks! Actually, I needed to add 5 more rows of blocks to make sure you cannot see an empty space of nothingness, but you're right. It takes me a lot of time to get enough variety in the FG for my level, (about 1 hour for 2-3 screens) Here's a screenie pointing that out:
Ugh, I finally know how to insert custom sprites. Thanks to Alfred The Stone to discover it. (Yea, that may sound a bit weird, but we are pretty unexperienced in chocolate hacking ;D) I hope this'll make our levels more interesting and varieted.
Another week done and another week of progress!
I have a few things to tell you:
My Co informed he made 1 level, but he also said that he doesn't have enough time to make more levels. He'll be a bèta-/bugtester from now on, but I keep hoping he'll make more levels.
During the week I started to make a scheme for the whole hack.
A proper edit/new post will be made later today, because I have to play a field hockey match in 30 minutes, and posting it will sure take longer
After two weeks I finally finished the World 3 Ruins level, which will also be in my 3-level demo! Some screenies.
And I started a new level in world 5 (Cave). The level is based on chucks and uses the original cave FG and BG.
This is the 2nd section shown, involving mostly the most unpredictable enemies in the game, Puntin' Chucks.
Upper Left: A new message box containing a very useful tip: Upper right: Being used in this Screenshot:
EDIT: Thanks BMM for pointing the misplaced tile out! Lower left A puzzle Lower right A splitting chuck near the end
For those of you who have seen my previous OW, I completely changed it to this on the Main OW:
Just a WIP, ignore the cutoff
