24h SMW II: Discussion

Link Thread Closed
Welp decided to create one myself while I still had the opportunity.

Like my last one, I though it would be better just to scratch the surface of the skin then go deeper and quite possible end up without a clue to what I'm doing. That said, I hope you all get the simple, to-the-piont vibe watching it as I had intended while creating it.
I have updated my entry, but I'm not sure if it's a big enough change to even be worth a redownload (the judges will have to download the updated version tho). Just slightly changing the ending as well as fixing the glitched baseball Chuck. I am expecting to place fairly high, not necessarily first place.

I have to disagree. I think the slowdown really brought it down for me.

That slowdown was actually the factor that made the entry work. I even asked SNN if slowdown is allowed and he said yes(?).
Edit: I don't know how can I make the entry work with no slowdown. There a 0.1 second slowdown at the end, but that one doesn't count.\The one at the start is the issue.
Why WHY does this HAVE to be on a SUNDAY, and I wanted to enter, but no of course it HAS to be on a Sunday, when I don't have my laptop with me.
There used to be stuff in this footer, but it's all gone now.
Only an hour left; better hurry =s
The contest started yesterday. And TRS, I am going to keep the entry as it is. If the very little slowdown is the only nitpick you have, then I'm not fixing it, as it helps play the C7 level entirely.
Finally finished mine...

Now to get some food... haven't left the bed since I woke up 7 hours ago ^-^l|l
Welp, looks like time's up.

I'll start playing through some of the levels now and give my comments.
I wanted to know how much time there is. Well, I know now it's the end. So I'll wait for comments of my entry. I'll ignore the part with the slowdown at the very start. That WAS necessary to make the entry work.
I'm hoping to have the results up by next weekend. Frankly, I didn't expect as many entries as I got (65 or something like that).

Rad.
Next week? Just great. I wanted to see the results before my next exams, but not possible I see. Whatever, I'll try to be patient.

Well, looks like there are around 65 entries or so, this round. Looking at the rather difficult theme we got, it's understandable. Then again, there are a lot of great entries. Although there weren't as many entries in total as last year, it still was a great contest. I had lots of fun making my level. {B)
This contest reminded me of this one thing we did in my acting for non-majors class where we were given a script that we had to use, but we had to make up the scenario. The script was a phone conversation and the scene had to use a phone call somehow. We had to stick with the script, it could not be changed. Despite the deceptively simple, short script, there were a lot of different, creative scenes.
A lot of different levels were made for this contest (one of the most creative I've seen was the vertical level with wrapping sides), altho the one thing I did see a lot was Mario standing on a column of throw blocks at the part that was equivalent to Yoshi eating the Pokey.

I really like how mine turned out. I think I may actually use the level I made in my hack.

I don't think it was difficult, I just think it was more of a curve ball. I mean, there was really no time to prepare for something like that (which is good as that's how 24 Hour contests are supposed to work).

Yeah, but what else can you do with mario standing still pressi y/x?
Your layout has been removed.

This one stood out to me as well. I've watched the first 15 entries, mainly looking for something that looks like the player naturally moving the level. I'd say about 1/3 of the levels I've seen have what I'm looking for, and even then it seems like each level has the player stop for quite a period of time.

I guess options are kinda limited there. Either get a fireflower by that point and toast some enemies, wait for layer 2 to let you through (which is what I did) or actually have Yoshi eat a few things.
BTW, did anyone make an autoscroll? seems like someone could make a few creative ideas with that.

I was stuck at what to do with Mario standing doing nothing for about 3 seconds. So I thought I'll just use the eating block.
