24h SMW II: Discussion - Old Contests & Events

Yours was one of my favorites, Ripperon. While there tended to be quite a bit of slowdown in the beginning, the pacing in your level was pretty much consistent throughout the whole level. Even the long pause near the end was justified in that you had to wait for the turn block, and you still gave the audience something to look at while waiting for Mario to move.

Alright, I must say the sprite placement/interacting was very good in this one. The problem however, is that you wanted to put too much stuff in it, instead of going with one theme. There also was kinda a lot going on at the same time. But props on the interacting, that was done very well. And I know you don't want to be bothered with the slowdown anymore, but I also spotted some silent bills, but not that that matters much. The part where you had to wait for the Koopas to kick their shells was... meh, alright, but because there isn't much happening, it might be a little boring.

Overall, very nice entry you got there.

Tahixham found out what GvS stands for.

That's called a yoku block from the Megaman games and yes, it's in version 2.
@GvS: I rushed the entry as well.
I had to make the last part a bit more interesting.

I was kind of afraid of some people's entries too (like Dinomar, ycz or Kipernal), but then those turned out to be kind of not as mindblowing as I expected, while other people totally surprised me with very original and interesting ideas (like GvS, MM9 and ngwu).

Kind of glad nobody else made a water level, too.

Wow, i was considered the terrorist of this contest, along with others.
But yeah, if someone thought i could do better, it's true (modestly, actually), but i didn't want to put effort on this, since i did want to make something of simple, i won't win, actually. Yesterday i was particularly demotivated, and i wanted to play Angry Birds more.

I also tried to make a water level, but i didn't have the patience to do it.

Let me know guys: was that rocky face cool?

Actually, that was possibly the best part of you entry. Everything else... qute alright.

I look at the other entries, and realize how horrible mine is. :S

Oh well. I had fun making it, and that's what matters.

Actually, from what I recall, your entry flowed pretty naturally. I can relate about simply not having the patience, though- building something like this requires too much testing and checking for my taste ^_^;

I did like the rocky face- it reminded me of La Mulana or Spelunky for some reason.

Second that, I look at mine and it reminds me to look at more tutorials. I'm pleased at what I done with the limited time I had though (coursework is killer at this of year), and I'm giving myself a pat in the back and nobody is going to stop me

Well, it is sort of "lacking", but the first part was ok.

Yes, my entry flowed, and it's indeed what i said: I was the terrorist of this contest in the sense people feared i could do something of mindblowing... it didn't happen, see you in the Overworld Contest... *is shot*

Totally random: or the fact i am completely drugged of Crash Bandicoot: i wanted to make custom graphics of Sunset Vista, but i didn't have the patience to do it, so i gave up to a normal dangeroud temple theme.
I wanna more classic crash!

Given the nature of his level overall though, ranking it high will result in anger from contestants, and ranking it low will result in "why is it ranked so low" from people outside of the contest. I've come up with an alternate solution after about 30 minutes of staring at my text file which (I hope) will be fair. I'll reveal all of that along with the results though.

Funny; I was legitimately considering doing that for a bit while making my entry, but I thought it would be against the spirit of the competition.

I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.

Just watched MajorasMask and HDLX's entrires and those are very well made. I think they might be a big score for sure.
Out of curiosity: Is it 100% done the judging, considering the shortness of the entried?(Perhaps I shouldn't have asked this, while you were takign a nap)

I thought I'd actually have a chance of winning, but there are probably many more good entries that even awesome looking entries could end up getting close to last place.

Also, I was highly tempted to make a level composed of blocks that changed mario's y/x speeds, similar to the automatic levels you might find on youtube...

It was okay at best. Wasn't as exciting or creative as some of the other entries I've seen. Don't really have any strong feelings.
Did anyone ever play past the intro of mine and play level 105? If you do, you'll get to take Zeldara's custom block for a test drive. I think that was included in this version. I had inserted it because I was thinking about using it in the actual title screen, but ultimately I couldn't find a use for it. I tested it in level 105 and I'm pretty sure I haven't changed it back since.
