Hello there, Now that we got a SM64 forum set up I might get to work on my new SM64 hack. It's the sequel to my old SM64 hack Monochrome Mario 64, but with it being a 60 star hack instead of it being a mini 7 star hack like it's predecessor. I haven't got a full world to show off yet, so images is off it's test area.

I'm currently working on my first world, I'll post a video and pictures of it when I think it's complete enough to show off.

Also: What colour did you think Mario should be? Black, White or Grey?

(Also before you ask, yes I am spelling Grey correctly :P)
Very nice Vinnyboiler, and as for Mario, make him multiple colours (hair black, head white, clothes grey)

Looking forward to more of this #w{=)}

Like this :)

If you like that then I'll guess I'll get to work on the HUD. I don't know if I should just grey out the default Mario 64 number textures or just redesign them.
Yep, exactly like that Vinnyboiler, looks great :D

Eh, the HUD just needs the colour taken out of it, you could easily do that with Photoshop.

--------------------
Hooray for grayscale! It'll feel as if SM64 was in 1950.

I've gone ahead and just greyed out the hud (and the water while I was at it) I'm pretty sure that's all done unless anyone has any suggestions.

Here comes Mr Giant Colourful Mario face to ruin my artistic vision. I'll have to deal with him.

This is just perfect, I don't know what I can add to make this any better.

I want to get my title screen up and working, then I'll get to work on completing my first level.

Any suggestions to anything I'm currently working on?
Wow Vinnyboiler, that looks great! My only snag is the mario head minigame - it's in colour.

But who cares, you could work around that or disable it #w{=P}

I've been inspired to do a stand alone version of Peach's castle for awhile now. No Moat, No waterfall, Not even the start area.

I'm wondering if I should keep the first area Mario is standing on or not. If not then I'll most likely get rid of it and make the area leading up to the castle the starting point.
Good idea, a castle as a main hub would make a nice change (although mine's going to have one but who cares) - you should make some surrounding hills for decoration though, the grey path and castle look a bit lonely #w{:<}

Ah that's the feeling I expecting. It will feel more lively the further in the hub you go.

Just getting started on my first level, it's not going to exactly have a theme to it. It's just going to encourage exploring.

It's still more or less in it's planing stages.

If SM64 looked like that in 1950 it would still be the absolute greatest feat in technology.

I was going to repost the image I posted on the coin colour tutorial thread but I thought I show off how much I butchered what I done with the red coins as well.

I also edited the musical note on the hud (Which was so bloody frustrating to do and have the note look decent).

The next step: Draining out the colour from the star.

Also, have a bonus picture.

Keep in mind level design isn't a major priority for me at this stage.
Looking good, Vinnyboiler. Especially how you changed the hud, how did you do that?

Never mind. I think the star texture is in TT64's texture banks, just gray it out and it'll look great :)

--------------------
Yeah, both the star's eyes and golden-yellow texture are part of the same tile in TT64.

Oh cool, which texture is this?

EDIT: Never mind.

Next on my todo list.

Thanks to CPUhacka, I managed to sort them out without any hassle at all.

I really do want to get into level designing, but I've gotten so far in making everything grey. I feel like the next logical step is just to grey out all the textures easily editable in TT64 and then look to edit out all the vertex colors in all the enemies and objects I'm going to use to finish off the effect.
I know it's probably a bit early to ask, but will you be providing a direct ROM link upon release? :)

Not here, given the grey area of ROM themselves. This and many other ROM hacking sites can't be seen to promote distribution of ROM's (even if they are hacked) as it's seen as illegal on the internet.

Sorry about that #w{=(}
Well, you could always link to a video, and have the direct rom link from there :D

Never mind.

I thought about making the first level space themed, given the overabundance of space themed stages in SM64 hacks. I'm thinking it could be a good replacement to the classic grass land as the first stage scenario.

I'm finding it really hard to make stars for the background, I might just get a star sky image off the internet if I can find one of good quality.
