***Formerly "Status Condition Sprites". I took them down because since I cancelled SMTI, I won't be doing the WLII status conditions either. I've changed Punch so he doesn't actually cause a status condition, and the Bee is gone forever, so if anyone was lucky enough to download it, it's up to you if you want to give it to anyone who asks, as long as it's through PM. I won't be doing that.***


I finished the Pseudo Powerups. Here's a video of all seven in action:

You can get them all in a mondo ZIP file right here. Tell me if I forgot anything or if anything is busted.

The descriptions of each upgrade are in a Readme in the ZIP file, or you can watch the video and see what each one does.

Oh yeah, and I didn't include the graphics... That's because they're very easy to make on your own, and also you'd have to delete some existing tiles or use ExGfx to use them how I did. Best let you make those descisions... ;)

Awesome work - one question - your hack has SMAS music/sound effects. How do your sprite's sound effects translate into ROMs that are using SMW sound effects?

Wow, Schwa, I have to say, you never fail to amaze me here, it seems, any possibility you can make a Punch sprite that punches you straight left or right (so that there could be immenient danger of falling off a cliff, onto spikes, into lava, etc, if placed well enough)?

One more thing, can you possibly make a status condition that makes you does the following:

1. If a certain enemy does its attack, whether it's ranged, or just direct contact, the player should become unable to move unless they mash the buttons like crazy, but this shouldn't hurt them at all.

2. However, being hurt by another enemy should always unfreeze the player.

Any chance that could be done in a sprite, please?
Now that I think of it, Knight, it would seem more plausible to make two variations of the Punch sprite... one that causes the Sent Flying status condition, one that just sends you flying normally. And yes, it wouldn't be hard at all to make it just send you sliding along the ground.

Though if you wanted, Knight, you could edit the Status Condition sprite's variables to make Mario's Y speed when sent flying a lower amount. Try setting it to F0, and changing the Sent Flying X-speed Table to 7F and 80 respectively.

The Status Condition sprite is made to be ULTRA customizable. You can literally change absolutely anything you want about the sprite in the huge list of variables listed before the Init Routine. Leave anything with "Ram" in front of it alone, but anything with "Var" or "Sfx" cna be changed to anything you'd like.

I should probably make Flat Mario next, but this will be tougher than usual because it requires new graphics. Fortunately, Heisanevilgenius decided a bit ago to make me some graphics for Flat Mario and Burning Mario, so I'm partially covered.

Also, I'm thinking of making this thread the "Schwa Sprite Gallery" instead of just the Status Condition sprite gallery. That way you'll all know immediately when I have a new sprite out, unlike some of the other ones I've made that I released a little more silently. Should I do that?

It can be good for ice levels like :D
Wasn't there a condition like that that a boss uses in brutal mario?

Well, you are a really good spriter. It would make sense...

A funny condition would be one where Mario shot Diggin Chuck's rocks through his head (like a volcano).

Or maybe the ability to swim in lava or walk on water... or perhaps even break regular question mark blocks with a spin jump for a matter of time!

(just trying to help here) couldnt you just make it so that when whatever happines with your sprite, it loads certian GFX from GFX 32?

Guys, no. Stop throwing Status Condition Requests around like pieces of paper. You're missing the point of why I'm making this... What makes good levels so good? People say a good level is something that could possibly be found in an actual Nintendo game, or for that matter are even better in design than those in a Nintendo game. Spriting has to follow that pattern too. I figured you guys would naturally know this, but maybe I'm wrong. Mokou, no, I am NOT making status conditions just to suit your own hack. Scratch, same for you, plus some of those ideas sound like they were thought up by a 5-year-old, PLUS, some of them would be insanely hard or unneccesary to code. I have my goals in mind... I'll be designing all the Wario Land II (and maybe some WL3) status conditions, and possibly some that you'd find in a stereotypical RPG, but that's it. For one thing, if I kept designing more and more, the project would never get finished, and for another thing, well... Most of you probably wouldn't get this, as most of you don't have a clue about spriting, but when a sprite is designed with certain limitations and boundaries, it's a lot better off than a sprite without them. Just trust me on this one.

I don't see why people keep trying to take advantage of my generosity and try to push me one step further all the time... Do you guys want what happened to Ghettoyouth and Icegoom to happen to me too? I eventually just get fed up with the community and fall off the face of the Internet?

I am SERIOUSLY pissed off.

(to Citrusfruit) That might be possible, but to make it easier for others I'm probably just going to make Mario invisible and draw graphics from one of the Sprite Banks on top of him.

This is all great stuff. You really make some amazing sprites. And it seems like the more you play with the engine the more you find out.

It seems you have most stuff settled. I noticed you mentioned some power-up possibilities though. I remember mikey made a hammer sprite power-up that you can grab that lets you run back and forth with the hammer blazing, which knocks out sprites.

I also saw something on another forum where someone was working on a submarine thing that Mario could sit in, and hitting the Y button shot missiles that would KO sprites or explode turnblocks. I'd say you're not far from that point, and could potentially make a ton of power-ups, like a hammer suit.

I took some ASM in college, but most of the Mario stuff is beyond me. I can only do minor stuff. Maybe I should look into tutorials...

Except that's not what happened with icegoom at all.

Anyway, haven't replied here yet, but nice work, especially the Punch, which is very cool. I may use them ... they could definitely be worked into some very interesting puzzles. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Er... sorry! ^_^' I didn't mean to overpower you, I just kinda get carried away with sprite ideas. They're not requests, if anything, they're suggestions. To put in a little suggestion book... that's used for stuff.
