Sorry I saw the team hack thread but i would like to start my hack here. I am trying to come up with a good story for my hack but all
of them sucks. If you want to join my team which should be after we

Story Intro

Bowser: It’s so booooring being cooped up in this fortress all day. There has got to be something to do.

Koopa Troopa: We could play a board game. I’ve wanted to play Candy Land for ages. Let me get it out…..

Bowser: No, no. Anything but that, I hate that game. I want to do something fun and exciting.

Koopa Troopa: You could always wreck havoc on the Mushroom Kingdom and steal away the Princess again like you’ve done a million times before.

Bowser: That never does get old, does it? Sure, why not? At least it will get me up and out of this place. Koopa, pack your bags we are headed to the Mushroom Kingdom.

Upon Bowsers arrival, he notices that something isn’t quite right, as the Mushroom Kingdom’s normal inhabitants are nowhere to be seen, heading forward anyway he marches himself right up to the front doors of Peach’s castle and barges his way in. To his surprise, he finds the front room filled with many sad looking Toads.

Bowser: Why the long faces guys? I haven’t even done anything yet, but since I’m here I might as well get to business. I’m here to capture the Princess, turn her immediately over or you will really be sorry.

Toad: But Bowser.

Bowser: I said! Hand over the Princess!

Toad: But you see Bowser. The Princess is no longer here. Mario has already kidnapped her and has taken her deep into the forest.

Bowser: What?! You have got to be kidding me. How did this happen?

Toad: Last night while it was storming outside we believe that an Evil Spirit entered into the castle and took over Mario’s consciousness. We believe this because Mario, all of a sudden started acting very strange. He then grabbed the Princess and jumped out of the window! We all tried to stop him, but he was too strong and he overpowered us Toads and Luigi. We refer to him now as Evil Wicked Mario

Bowser: Well then, good riddance to Mario. At least I won’t have to worry about him anytime soon. I guess I’ll just go back to my lonely old fortress. Come on Koopa.

Toad: But Bowser wait…. We need you.

Bowser: No you don’t.

Toad: Us Toads are simply not strong enough to rescue the princess and defeat Evil Wicked Mario and Luigi has locked himself in his bedroom, as he feels he is not brave enough for such a task. We simply have no one else to turn to for help besides you.

Bowser: So you want me to save the Princess?

Toad: Yes!

Bowser: Sorry kid, but I’m just not interested. Maybe I’ll see you around sometime. Sayonara stinkers.

Koopa Troopa: Great! So now when we get back to the fortress we can play Candy Land!

Bowser: Oh no! Uh…Toad. Wait a minute! About the Princess…Which way did they head into the forest again?!

And so the adventure begins….

Bowser sets out on a new adventure to save Princess Peach from the Evil Wicked Mario and to conquer the Evil Spirit, which took over Mario’s consciousness.

I might be interested. Here's a pitch for a story.

Mario and his team are on vacation in Dino Land. Suddenly, Peach is kidnapped. The first hack of the hack revolves around saving the Princess, who is currently in the Mushroom Kingdom. The kidnapper is not Bowser, but turns out to be the Toad Brigade. Mario must spend the second half fighting through the streets of the Mushroom Kingdom in order to beat the Toad Brigade and save the kingdom once and for all.

Ok I am going with ClearYoshi story.

Although i've NEVER seen how one works, let alone hack that offten,

It'd be better to tell us about your hack first, then search for helpers. People won't be interested in your hack if they don't know how it will look like, what's it's plot, etc.

Everything I wanted and looked for was to find new users interested on making a team hack. This means: I totally support this, and I want to contribute, as well.

@ClearYoshi: That's a pretty nice and unique story you've got there.

@Theonesuperx: Well, you have ClearYoshi's story by default. What are your next plans for the project, then (regarding to levels, overworld, external resources like ASM/GFX/music...)? It's necessary so you and your team will know what to do in order to proceed.

In the job list, 'ASM coders', 'Sprite coders' and 'Cutscene makers' could be merged into one category (ASM coders), as coding blocks, sprites, patches and blocks (as well as cutscenes) involve ASM coding.

As for me, you can count me in your team, too.

I was, like, ninji'd by YCZ, it's basically what I had written below:

Well. Now that you have a job list and a few interested members (it's little in number but it counts already), you would point a few more details about what you plan for this hack. For example:

> How many levels/worlds it will have, and which themes for each (so the OW/level designers will know what kind of level to do)
> Tools you intend to use (for example Xkas for patches insertion and Romi's Spritetool for sprites)...

And there are other things you must keep in mind so the project doesn't die before starting:

> You must be active, and it's highly recommended that you post some news/updates at least once per week (even if there's nothing new, post something to show you're still working on; either update the base ROM or show off something different)
> Try to get ideas, and be open to hear the others', too
> A team hack is nothing without a base ROM to work. It'll need to be updated as the project progresses. Pretty much like YCZ said.
> And, of course, you must get to do something for your project, too.

Yep, man... being a team (hack) leader is not that easy... and I'm sure there are a few other things I may had forgotten to mention. That's why I offered myself to help you as a co-leader.

Anyway, to make this official, I would suggest opening a thread in the Works in Progress forum, with all the necessary things at the top. I would be glad to help, depending on the direction of the project.

Also, I can write cutscenes (and increase the story a bit also).

A few things to comment here. Let's proceed:

The thread title says 'Overworld in progress', but in fact it's being planned only. May I suggest changing the title to make it clearer?



Oh, sorry for not commenting about it. To be honest, I liked it, too (I like almost every single story idea as I hardly ever bother on creating one), but I said about ClearYoshi's being chosen by default because of Theonesuperx's post regarding to that. Your idea as it's built now doesn't fit with the default story.

And then, the OW list of maps and submaps: So, forests everywhere? It isn't needed to make every world a forest; it would seem rather uncreative on the player's point of view. But their themes are cool. Personally I had never seen a SMW hack with a beehive-themed world. That's pretty unique!

But still... it's necessary to decide the total amount of levels the hack will have, so we can discuss about how many levels each world will have and it'll make it easier for level/OW designers what kind of theme the level/OW map will have.

Welp... There are still voices echoing in my head whispering about the main story/intro we have for now and how the player will look like, what will be doing and so on.



By reading this, I suppose the idea for the main character, that is, the player, is that it'll be Bowser. I'm not very fond of that, as drawing a player GFX is really hard and tiresome (unless you get a really talented drawer willing to help you). Being that said, I would suggest upgrading the story a bit, to make the hack possible and easier to work. We could use other character for the player (Daisy, Wario, Waluigi, Toad, Yoshi, something else that's not too difficult to create...), while keeping the storyline intact.

Once I get some more time and ideas for an upgrade, I'll post again.

Ah, don't forget: it'd be good if you created a new thread in 'Works in Progress' subforum, as Egadd mentioned. Or either PM a staff member (preferably yoshicookiezeus) requesting to move this thread to there.

(By the way, while Egadd can write cutscenes, I could program them if he agrees. And I could compose music, I guess. I plan on doing other things, but that's it for now.)

It seems like I'm overtaking the real leader of the project... overpowering myself...
