I really don't want to pick too many posts apart (not only would it piss people off and be generally not worth it, but it'd be kinda time-consuming), but... there's one I really, really need to say something about:
Originally posted by TomPhantosnesx9 was the first one I used, so it's the one I'm accustomed to the most. Although I use v1.43 since v1.52+ doesn't play back sound correctly.
It's ZSNES (and old snes9x versions, I guess) that play(s) back sound incorrectly - later versions of snes9x, and bsnes all play it back correctly. The issue is, well, addmusic isn't coded very well... so it tends to abuse emulation flaws in older emulators. It'll sound fine in those, yeah, but... playing back sound correctly equals playing it back how it would play on the real console, and unfortunately, it would sound horribly broken on there.
I do understand that it is, at the moment, something most hacks depend on, though, so... eh. It's the reason I keep it around, mainly, as a fallback...
That being said... I'm a split bsnes/snes9x (more recent versions) user. I don't like the way bsnes has turned on the usability front, so I tend to stick with an older version when I use it (v072 or v080, if I remember correctly? I've not fired up a SNES emu in ages, I'll admit), and snes9x is just a generally good emulator for almost all systems. (It'll run beautifully on pretty much any system I've touched, even my 1.33ghz iBook G4!) Not to mention, well, ZSNES's GUI has grown to bother me over the past few years (I found it cool as hell back in the early-mid 2000s, I'll admit, especially fullscreen... but it just looks wonky on anything larger than 1280x1024 or not on a 4:3 or 5:4 screen... 1600x1200 may be fine but I don't have one of those screens, so.)
That being said, well, use what you like... just don't be too shocked if things break that would work on a real system if your emulator is too inaccurate, eventually.
I can't wait until ZSNES's next update, I'll be honest. I want to see it run more games properly. |
