MaSeHiHa / Mario´s Search For His Hat - Cool Koopa Castle done

Standard

This is the thread for my actual Hack "Mario´s Search For His Hat", which is actually planned to contain two or three Worlds only, as I don´t think I would have enough motivation to make more... ;) Here are some Screenshots of what I´ve done so far:

The title Screen - I think I will recreate this before the final Release...

A really "creative" Story! ;) Maybe I will do something about that, too.

The first Overworld...

Level 1 - "Sky Garden"

Level 2 - "Happy Goomba Hills"

Do you really think about eating THAT mushroom? ;) Level 3 - "The Chilly Shroom"

Oh this mushroom...

Level 4 - "Howater Cave"

The "White Switch Palace"... Supposed to create a contrast to the actual Switches Colour! ;)

The Triangle Fortress - Most of the enemys here are Triangles... #w{=D}

Cool Koopa Castle - Nearly every enemy wears Sunglasses and a self-made attempt to port "Peter Gunn Theme" from the "Blues Brothers" is playing during the Level.

One of the Triangle Fortresses enemys... :D

The first Picture of the second Overworld...

Oh and...

Well this is what comes out, if I try to redraw a Sprite. D: Actually this should look like one of these Cactuses from "Yoshi´s Island", but I don´t think it will be included with the final Version of the Hack!

No comments? That's a shame, because you deserve them. I saw your hack at Fr3akyZockt and it was really good. This level looks very polished too. Great job
This hack looks with great potencial man! Mario search for his hat!

How many worlds/length
Than kyou guys for some Comments finally! ;) And thank you for the positive feedback of course! #w{=)}

@Oh Hell No Somebody watching Fr3akyzockt around here? Great! #w{=P} And thanks! :)

@xImseiken3 The whole Hack is made out of Levels I submit to Contests usually, so it will not be a large Hack! One World with maybe 12 - 15 Levels is planned...

And the final boss...Evil hat of Mario itself! Would be interesting!
I didn't play the demo now but when I look at the screen shots I can say that it looks pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to this hack :3

A very good looking hack! I don't see anything immediately apparent that looks bad, though some of the backgrounds could use some more fluff. But I'm impressed!
@xImseiken3 Well I will decide that when the time is there... But it really sounds like an interesting idea! ;) But my bigger problem will be how to make Mario wear a hat after defeating the boss... (At least for the credits-level maybe)

@MetalJo Well if you are hosting a level-Contest again, I may send you a level of those! ;)

@Egadd Thank you! BGs are something I may look through before releasing this Hack.

I'm glad to see complete the Howater Cave here. Yes, the level design look somewhat quite good.
You definitely have an interesting eye for detail Neidave. I do very much like the level design, it has a nice sense of progression to it. Something I've seen done too often recently is claustrophobic cave sections, but you seemed to have avoided them. My one complaint is that the spikes blend in a little to well with the rocks, I would reshade them to a lighter colour to let them stand out a bit more. Also, although this is not a personal grudge, some people may accuse your hack of being a Tails_155 hack (where detail becomes clutter), more so in the above ground sections. Just be careful of where you put the details, so that it doesn't obstruct the player's vision, or interrupt the flow and consistency of the level. Other than that, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you have in store!
Hmm. . . not sure what to say so I'll just stop talking. . .

Visually updated "The Chilly Shroom":

HDMA by Goldenroy!

The next level is planned to be called "gimmicky walk" and it is used to be something like a "compilation-level" of some generator-gimmicks like the double-jump...

When it comes to your level design is seems very well done. I like it!
The graphics you are using are very nice as well. The background gradients are a nice touch too! However, I'm not a big fan of what you did with the goal posts in The Chilly Shroom it just looks a bit messy in my opinion. That is my only little complaint though!

Great work so far, keep it up!
While the goal post does look sort of nice, it looks weird, because the hill is in the front while the mushroom bottom is in the back. Normally this would be fine, but the mushroom cap looks like it's in the back, but connects to the hill.

In essence, it looks like M.C. Escher.
Thank you! And I will try to improve what you mentioned Egadd! :)

(copied from my thread at JDCG)

More as an experiment I started the first Castle in my Hack and gave it a rather strange "Gimmick":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqz9JwGBjAQ

The background about the main Levels idea is the fact, that all the other Wall-Running-Blocks (and I really used those a lot by now) in my Hack have replaced Graphics... I'm not sure if I should continue working on this Level... What do you think? :) At least I would need a fitting Layer-3 Background! ;)

Heh, it has the Nightwish port from SMWCP. So epic, and fitting. Evil wall triangles? 10 points for originality. Sounds a lot like this idea I had for a level "where 3-up Moons go to die."

The angular background decorations would go great throughout the level to capture that "triangular" feel. Make lots of triangular ledges, and don't forget to use real wall triangles a lot too. For a Layer 3 background, make something abstract, like a field of colored triangles floating in a void.

Good start--show us more!
