HP: Represented by the Heart and green bar, you lose HP when you take damage and are KO'd when it reaches zero.
FP: Represented by the Flower and the blue bar, various abilities cost FP to be used. If you don't have enough you can't use the ability.
BP: Represented by the Badge. In order to equip badges and spellbooks you need enough BP to do so.
ATK: Represented by the Hammer. When you fight, some your attacks use the ATK stat to do damage.
DEF: Represented by the Shell. When you fight, DEF blocks damage from enemies.
SPE: Represented by the Book. Magical attacks use SPE to do damage, and SPE blocks damage from enemy magic.
STA: Represented by the 'Stache. When you fight, STA gives you a chance to crit or dodge attacks. Only moves that use ATK can crit.
SP: Represented by the 8 orbs. They're used to activate star abilities.
Level: The level of your character.
Coins: The number of coins your character has.
Star Pieces: Represented by the yellow crystal, this is the number of Star Pieces your character has.
EXP: This is the ammount of experience your character has. When this reaches 100, you gain a level.
Combat
During combat, each class has many options available to it.
Attacks: Each class has 2 attacks it can use. For instance, the Plumber has the Hammer and Jump attacks. These attacks can be used as many times as you like with no cost.
Special Abilities: Each class has 3 special abilities. These are unlocked with star pieces, and require FP to use.
Badges: Some badges when equipped give extra attacks that can be used. These usually have FP costs, and can only be used if the badge is equipped.
Magic: Magic can be equipped like badges, and allows spells to be cast by classes that have +SPE, +FP or +BP. These usually have FP costs, and can only be used if the spell is equipped.
Items: Items can be used in battle. Your inventory normally holds up to 5 items, but it can be extended via badges. Items usually ignore the enemy's defences.
Star Powers: Star Powers can be used with your SP. Damage from Star Powers always ignores the enemy's defences, such as STA when calculating if a status is inflicted or DEF when they are damaged.</td></tr></table>
