Sony just announced the PS4. The final nail on the coffin for the Wii U and Nintendo.

Practically telling Nintendo how they should make a console, instead of focusing on a single gimmick with no power, they should expand on console power, allowing better interactions with players around the world.

While no price or date was announced, they did show some of the upcoming features and games on the PS4.

The Dualshock 4 combines what makes the Vita and the PS Move great, allowing better and more accurate controls than the Wii U has and a touch panel for whatever Sony wishes to beat Nintendo on. The media molecule demo pretty much showed what could be done with it. And even stream your games to the Vita. Wish I could do that with the 3DS and Wii U.

One of the biggest features is that you will be able to "share" your game with the world with a simple press of a button. You can livestream what you are playing within the console, have people chat and help you out and more. Unlike with the Wii U, where you have to keep the game paused out of a menu to even try to share a screenshot, and hope for replies and placebo facebook likes. The game Drive Club truly shows what the ps4's social features are capable of. Making tournaments people can instantly join and compete, creating your own challenges and more. The PS4's share feature will allow you to even take video footage of the game you are playing and let you upload it to sites like Youtube and Facebook. I think this will revolutionize the LP community.

You can also play a game on the cloud. On almost any device. On your phone, tablet, and even PS Vita just about anywhere. Much like the Wii U. Without the short distance restriction, or being confined into the WiiU gamepad.

Some of the first party titles they revealed are already more than what Nintendo had to show last E3 (Nintendo Land? pffffffffffahahaa) and show what a true nextgen system can do. Killzone Shadowfall looks downright amazing, the particle effects, shadows, colors, highly detailed models and textures. Meanwhile the best Nintendo has to show now is a port of a GameCube game with a bloom effect added in. inFamous: Second Son looked alright, too.

We also saw the PS4 being capable of running next gen engines, such as Capcoms's and Square's. And even Epic's Unreal 4. Also we saw the reveal of a New IP (something nintendo should be doing) called Deep Dark, by Capcom, by the looks of it, you can explore dungeons and fight different bosses, but the killer here is that if you're in trouble and need help, you can ask a friend to join in your game and provide you with assistance and items, you can even share the spoils of the quest. Looked like a neat concept to me. Also, some footage of the project Bungie has been working on, Destiny, was shown. An FPS MMO with an open world for players to explore and co-op, and will have PS4 exclusive content. Looks like a very nice game. Among other things, Diablo 3 was confirmed to have a PS4 and ps3 release.

anyway, thoughts on the PS4 reveal?

i thought it was cool

ps4 has no games
who cares, console gaming is dead
Yeah, this is looking sweet. And yeah, Nintendo is sort of doomed UNLESS Sony decides to do Five Hundred and Ninety-Nine US Dollars, which has pretty much been confirmed as not going to happen.

Also can't wait for whatever Media Molecule is cooking up.
What they conveniently left out is the price of $999.99.
Didn't people say similar things about the Wii, though? I'd say it depends on what games come to the PlayStation 4 and the Wii U...and the Xbox 720 or whatever it will be called. If one video game company actually does fold, I can only hope that the others will do the same before the next generation hits (except the Ouya...I know the chances if it triumphing over the "big 3" are slim to none, but I can dream). I feel like console gaming is going the wrong direction in a lot of ways anyway, and maybe video game companies need to rethink their priorities.
My thoughts...

Meh.

I stayed up until after 1AM watching the entire announcement. Did this really need to be 2 hours? Can the Powerpoint style presentations please just fuck off!
Anyway, I was not that impressed to be honest. Knack looks cool, Watch_Dogs looks interesting, The Witness looks gorgeous and a new inFamous game is great.
The other games I saw though, were just meh.

Driveclub - Yeah, just what a new console needs, another fucking driving game. #smw{-_-Z}

Killzone 4 - Fuck off with the FPS crap already!

Diablo 3 - I don't give a shit about this being on PS4.

Destiny - I don't care about Halo so I won't care about Bungie's latest game.

Square-Enix - 'Wait until E3 for Final Fantasy.' Fuck off you bunch of trolls!

Deep Down (Capcom) - Meh...

I like the features they announced. The suspend/resume feature will be useful and the share button is a nice addition.
I find the conference was bad.
They introduced the PS4, but they spend too much time talking about SOCIAL. I want a console to play games, not to use social networks and share what XXXX did in XXXX game. Well maybe normalfags will like these social things, but I don't. And there is even a share button on the gamepad itself. What the hell?
Also the stream was on midnight in europe and I was tired/bored so I missed a bit of the end.

And about the games... well...
Knack seem interesting. The Witness too.
I wasn't interested by rest.

Also no price. Oh boy!

I disagree. To me the PS4 has pretty much no added value compared to the Wii U. But what is actually worse: No really interesting games on it so far. The only game that really caught my attention was Watch Dogs, which has just been confirmed for Wii U. The console itself has some cool features, too (like the ability to stream your game to a friend in real time), but none of these are enough of a reason for me to get the PS4 yet. And the console's specs... well, they're just that. As expected they're at least on par with current high end PCs (if not even better), but I never was someone who bought consoles for their hardware power.

It doesn't have ANY backwards compatibility. That's a bad move, imo. I think hear you'll be able to download the old games, but they'll probably charge you for it. Loltendo does it too, but at least their systems can play games of the prior gen.

Tbh, I'm not really interested. I have a PS2, but I mostly got it for Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Ratchet & Clank, etc. I've got my Wii U, too, and I'm hoping we see major creativity with it soon. I don't think the PS4 will be a lolfail, but I won't get one, and it should at least play PS3 games.

They probably wanted to save hardward costs. There will probably be downloadable PS3 games, though.

We got no price information.

We got no release date.

And, to be fucking frank, Sony is going in the completely opposite direction than what they say they were going. They once said that they didn't do ""gimmicks"" (double " because people REALLY need to stop this whole "lelgimmicksarebad" shit). What do they do?

> release PS Move.

> release the Vita with a touchscreen.

> ARE GOING TO RELEASE THE DUALSHOCK 4 WITH A TOUCH SCREEN.

Honestly, I'm not a Sony hater, I hate console wars and I believe this whole "lelyoucopiedthemHATE" shit is bad too, but really? Sony, don't make statements unless you actually intend to follow through with.

Really, Nintendo isn't finished - I'd be hugely surprised if any of the Big 3 actually lose profits during this generation. While Nintendo has had set-backs with the Wii U (especially with Rayman Legends), Sony's made huge mistakes with the PS 3, and unless they learn from them, the PS 4's going to make the same.

Saying that the Wii U is dead may be just a little ridiculous. In gaming, power doesn't matter, it's the software you can get. Not to mention the fact that the console will clearly retail for the cost of a second mortgage (I mean an 8-core CPU? Most PC games don't need more than 4). Let's not forget the Wii shifted around three times as many units as the PS3 despite being inferior and despite the fact Wii U sales haven't been as predicted (I still say Nintendo should have released it a month or two earlier since they made the same mistake with the Wii release), I'd assume that this will be no different.

Let's not forget that controller. Sure it looks nice but you can't deny that Nintendo clearly influenced the touchscreen aspect. And then we have those games I think MarioFan22 pretty much summed up my opinions. I mean really, claiming you want to change gaming forever and showing off an FPS.

Then we have being able to purchase your old games digitally. Now, Nintendo did this so right. I'm pretty sure most of the games on eShop are at least 9 or 10 years old so I wouldn't expect them to keep any backwards compatibility. Sony, on the other hand don't even have it for the PS3, a console that is more or less 5 years old and having it's last 'hit' (being the new COD) only a couple of months ago.

Just really?

Honestly I really wanted to be able to expand out and buy some other consoles (since Nintendo ones are the only ones in my price-range) but the PS4, which is the reason I didn't budget for a PS3 (I saw it coming soon) has proven to be severely disappointing. Heck, most of the comments on my Twitter feed ridiculed the announcement.

I also want to say that I'm sick of these companies banging on about social crap. Fuck off with the Facebook integration! I use my games consoles for... you know... PLAYING GAMES!
For as much as I love Nintendo, I'm kinda baffled at people saying that a lack of games on Sony's end is going to make them fall behind. Um...unless I'm missing something, Nintendo doesn't exactly have a strong lineup of games right now either, and while they seem to be starting to gain a bit of third-party support, it's still nowhere near the level Sony or Microsoft have. I can say with a fair bit of confidence that by the time the PS4 comes out, third-party support will be strong enough to keep it at least on par with whatever the Wii U's game sales will be at the time.

And if I'm being completely honest, I'd much rather have Microsoft drop out of the console wars than Sony.
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.

Unlike the Kinect or Wii, the Move was never heavily advertised. Probably better in the long run, it wasn't very good anyway.

Also, it's a Dualshock with a touch screen. I wouldn't call that a gimmick, that's the natural evolution of controllers. Making a remote actually based around motion controls is a gimmick. The Dualshock is based around normal playability, it just has a touch screen. Same for the Vita.

Nintendo did lose money for the first time a year or two ago, so while dying off is questionable, losing profits is actually likely to happen if Nintendo doesn't step up with the Wii U.

Circular argument. Software becomes faster, better-looking and bigger with better hardware.

Well yeah, most PC games aren't anywhere near as complex as what the PS4 has been showing us. It is rumored to support 4k TVs. Rumors I've seen are saying $300+, so I'm crossing my fingers.

What happened last time was the Wii had great sales until 2011, when sales dropped 37%, and last year when sales dropped 57%. The PS3 was incredibly flawed at launch, but after it fixed its mistakes, it became the little engine that could. If you really want stats so far, the PS3 has sold 3x more than the Wii U so far just this year.

Hey, FPSs can be nice games too. Not to mention Destiny is suppose to be a lot more, and 4 other non-FPS games were shown not including MM's tech demo.

Well yeah, if you own PS3 games, then you just keep your PS3 (unless you need to sell it for cash for a PS4, in which case how did you get a PS3 in the first place?)

The PS4 was just announced yesterday, so making final decisions at this point is a little weird. And of course they don't have a lot of interesting games, they only had time to announce six (though Infamous looks cool as always, and The Witness along with Watch Dogs looks cool).

Remember guys, don't looks a gift horse in the mouth. The good stuff will be at E3.

Excuse me? A 4 or 6 core CPU could have likely ran anything that they showed off in that conference. Actually not likely, definitely. As for rumours of $300, forget it. Over half of that cost if not two thirds is eaten by the cost of the 8 core CPU. For clarity, I'm purchasing a 6 core CPU for £100 (that being the lowest I can buy it at). Two cores less and it still converts to $152. I know most companies sell the console at a loss and make it up with game sales (and heck, I don't believe the PS3 actually did that when manufacturing and retail began) but nobody in their right mind would sell a console at $300 if the CPU alone costed $200 (for the sake of the argument) to purchase.
