Changing what gfx a custom sprite uses.

I can imagine this question has been asked alot, I saw it in the older forums but didn't pay attention as I weren't into custom sprites back then..

So I have a Exgfx.bin file with a few custom sprites I downloaded, but the thing is, some I have downloaded are using the same tiles as the ones I've already used, so I wanna know if I can go into the ASM file and change what tile in the Exgfx file it uses.

How would I do this?

Open the 8x8 editor and go down to where the sprites start. This is where the fire flower, koopas, goombas, etc are stored. This is "page one" of sprites, and it's SP1 and SP2. If you want to use this "page," go into the cfg editor for the sprite and find the checkbox which determines the page it's on.

Odds are, though, you'll want to make it use SP3 and SP4 which are on "page two." So, go to that page. This page usually includes things like Charging Chuck, bettles, spinies, thwomps, and other things. The top half is SP3, the bottom half is SP4. Most sprites are set up to use SP4. But unless you're using Chucks, there's generally a lot of room on SP3 to spare.

Now, what you want to do is open the sprite's ASM file, and look for something like this:

	dcb $84,$86,$84,$A0	; Walking 1, Walking 2, Killed, Turning

It's usually listed as "TILEMAP," so just search for that.

For each value, find that on the 8x8 editor. If you look at the $84, you can find that tile in the 8x8 editor as 0x384. If you want to repoint that graphic to the top left corner of the SP3, it'd be 0x300, so you'd just replace the $84 with $00. Do this for each frame until you get the desired results.
But what about SP4?? How do you map it onto SP4?
It's the same procedure, but be mindful that $80 and beyond are values pertaining to SP4, so simply seeing the quantity of tiles a specific sprite uses and remapping it accordingly should suffice.
