It's looking pretty decent, I must say! Your level design looks pretty good for vanilla! I do like your underground pallet! #smw{^_^}
Suggestions-
-There isn't a single enemy in any of your screenshots, you should add some, as your levels may be too easy without many of them! #w{:<}
-Your overworld's okay, but it could use some improving - Add some detail/make it less square! :D
-Finally, you should add some bushes and stuff to your levels, make them look nice!

About the enemies, I probably killed them to make sure I don't get killed while taking the screenshot. For example, in the cave screenshot, there was a shell-less red koopa around where I was.

About the overworld, I agree. Also, you mentioned the level pallet changes, I changed certain overworld pallets as well. For example, World 3 (the desert world) has a pallet change.

Only one level I've made so far doesn't have a pallet change, and that's Iggy's Tower.

I agree that some of my levels have a lack of detail. The problem is, a green bush wouldn't make sense in a level with blue grass, meaning I'd need to change the bush colour. If I do that, I can't add berries. Of course, this won't be a problem in the first level, as you don't get Yoshis until the third level.

At the moment, I'm working on World 2. I've created the first 2 levels there, and the next one is the Ghost House.

Actually,you can edit the outline of the berry's,just change the green that is next to red,pink or green depending on the berry,it is on the top right.
Nice hack there,however i do find the "blue" on the first level not so blue but a mint green,compare it from the intro level,copy it from it, i also recomend you to change the cave backround color.

I have a castle level (World 2's castle) with Layer 2 scrolling + layer 3 windows, and when I play the level, it doesn't show anything up at all, the screen just goes black. Why does it do this?

I'm also designing a BG for one of the levels too.
