121: Stormy Stronghold - MrDeePay and Lui37

MDP is currently having some internet issues and hasn't been able to get on. From what I understand the level is done bedsides a few needed decorations.

Stormy Stronghold

This is the IPS I received from MDP. You can access it just to the right of the hub. Let me know what you think before I add it in

For the most part a pretty good solid, moderately high difficulty but fair for World 6. Only a few aesthetic problems (and tile map issues) and this level can be inserted:

- 1. Diagonal Bullet Bill Shooters coming from Straight Left-to-Right Bullet Bill Shooters look weird. (EXGFX Fix, can come later)

- 2. This Boomerang Brother has a strange animation tile.

- 3. These spikes can let Mario and/or Sprites (like 1-Ups) go through them. Maybe block off the spikes with a cement block.

Other than that, pretty good work for the most part.

Going through the level myself I found quite a few other problems myself. The wind is Godly annoying in the second section. I also received a number of complains that this level could do much better in terms of design.

Until further noticed, I am removing this level from the line up. MDP really can't be on much these days and I just can't afford to wait any longer.

Extras

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

Advertising Space

For some added context to the last post, the level was able to be updated and finished a few months later since I had no internet at my home at the time. Fast forward to 2019-NOW, we're here again and most, if not all of the levels have been getting updates to varying degrees.

As for this level, what do ya'll have in mind and what do you want me to look at in the the current design that could use improvements? When I finish Shivering Cinders, I'll move over to this one and the mainline to make some necessary adjustments. Thankfully it shouldn't be anywhere nearly as extensive as what SC is getting.

Ah yes, Stormy Stronghold. I haven't actually done much about it regarding level design or anything, since I knew you would want to change it.

However, I have been working on a brand new tileset for this level, so that it actually looks like a castle, not a random series of floating islands.

Level 168 sample level

This is how the tileset looks so far. The idea I had was to create a sort of "ruined" elegant castle in the sky, that was conquered by Hindenbird and is using it as his base of operations when he's not on the "DUK" blimp.

I was inspired by a few things, but mostly Donkey Kong 64's Creepy Castle level. I thought the "stormy" theme would complement the dark, almost vampiric theme this level has. Except instead of the undead, you're dealing with Hindenbird's entire army, including Bullet Bill blasters and Jeptaks, while seeing the captain's face plastered everywhere. On banners, bricks, and even portraits. A "narcissistic" personality seems to fit well with this character in my opinion, at least with a sinister grin like that.

Sadly, I've put finishing this tileset on hold because Magi wanted to make a few changes to Hindenbird's design, so I'm waiting to see how that goes before I finish the set. Plus, I've been working on Nexus Norvegicus to get it finished, graphics and level-design wise.

Thoughts?
Just so you know, I'm very active on the site anymore like I was before; I'm mainly on Discord now.
