Works fine for me. *shrug*
Just a couple screenshots.

The new foreground in Lakitu's Lawn. YI obviously, with various edits to make it fit together better and give it less of a YI style (no thick outlines).

Our save hut, inside view. Currently still being toyed with and it needs a bit more work, but this is roughly what it'll look like. The purple star block is what gives the player an item in their itembox (and is the only way to do so). The star is animated; it spins in a little circle.

Whoo! Toad's House looks awesome!
I don't like what you did to the YI GFX, though...
The YI-styled screenshot looks good, however, the bottom of the pipes are looking odd. A pixel gets cut off on the right and left hand side .. though that is minor - the main thing wrong with them is that they just kind of cut into the ground. I know you can't really do anything about this without tweaking the GFX, as this was the way YI had it, so no biggie.

The save hut is looking very well done - some very interesting stuff in there. No complaints from me about it.
Someone else mentioned the pipe bottoms. I think I'll go ahead and draw some pipe bottoms to go there so there's an actual lip or seam. The main problem will be that the grass uses a different palette than most of the pipes, so I might have to play with colors or get creative. I'll see what I can do though.

EDIT: Done. =p

thats tons better.

What is the ice exgfx ?

--------------------
SMW Very Hard Jump 5%
It's from Joe and Mac, but like I said earlier, I don't recommend trying to rip them yourself. I had to use maybe 1/8th of the total graphics used in the game, and had to edit them like mad to make them work. I also cheated on the background.
did u will put it in exgfx file ?

She said she won't. Read the posts.
I did? I said it's a lot of work so I don't recommend doing it yourself. But when this is released, you'll be allowed to use the hack as you wish, which includes taking out the ExGFX files.

Anyway, small update. We put together a one and a half world demo for our focus group to test, and so far the only complaint (besides a couple bugs I was already aware of) is that our levels need more time. Once we finish up world 2, we might start considering a demo release.
I am really excited about this release - great graphics, great title, great new things!

Actually Reini, She didn't YOU read the posts :P
Anyways, yeah screens are lookin awesome!
Whatever. I'll have my mouth shut. When you're ready to ask for a beta tester, then I'm glad to be one.
I've gotten several PMs about this, so I want to restate it again instead of answering all of them.

The music is NOT available for use. DO NOT ask to use songs. Also, don't ask about being a beta tester, or try to reserve yourself a spot for when we do start taking beta testers, which is basically the same thing. Once we finish world 2, we'll start looking.
lolbump

We've been slacking off lately, doing other things. I've been working on custom sprites and blocks, and my co-author has been busy with work and some other projects, so we haven't gotten a lot done lately. I finished up two levels in water world yesterday though, so figured I'd share.

Ruka's Beach, the only beach level in the game. Not all that eventful. No new enemies or blocks or anything, and mostly just hills. Koopas wear sunnies.

Crabs and urchins, although the player has already seen these in Sally's Reef.

Big urchins.

I'm still looking for a sunset type background for this level. Does anyone know of a game that has something that would fit? I really can't find anything.

This level is unnamed right now. It's a 2-layer storm level where you can either swim along bottom with the sharks or run alon top where the Spikes are.

Since the level was made on 2 layers, everything up top has rain obscuring it, and everything below is underwater. This allowed for coins, blocks, scenery, and platforms underwater, which turned out to be a really nice effect.

mikey's Spike sprite, with various edits to make it more like the SMB3 Spike. He sort of follows Mario, throws balls a lot more often, and uses the SMB3 colors and animations.

I'm also looking for a new foreground for this level. Something other than the standard SMW ground. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

I've also been working on the blue switch palace, but right now it's just a bunch of pipes so nothing worth showing. We still have 2 levels to do from scratch and 2 levels to finish before we can consider releasing a 2-world demo.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite projects here. Are those beach GFX hosted here? They look great. One suggestion I might make is to see if you can toss in some decoration gfx on the lower parts, so it isn't so solid looking - maybe shells, or driftwood? (If you're taking suggestions, that is, and if it would fit the level).

In that screenshot on the first page (bridge with a crab and a Bullet Bill), where is that background from? Joe & Mac? Either way, it's cool that you are using J&M for some materials - I always thought the graphics were similar to SMW (in some ways).

I noticed that the status bar has an extra red coin slot - are you doing red coins ala SM64, or is that just a replacement or Yoshi Coins?

In your very first screenshot, are those manually recolored grassy hill GFX from SMW, or are they a palette swap of the original GFX?

Anyway, good luck and keep up the good work!

I've been watching this project and i've got to say that this is turning out to be really good. Nice level design, too. I'm most impressed about on the ice level GFX and the OV map. I'm looking forward to playing this. Good work. Maybe instead of Mario, you could try to have a new hero?

Let me see.

Screenshots 1 and 2: SMW FG, SMAS BG
Screenshot 3: ExGFX FG, Mario's Lost World BG (when I say ExGFX I mean stuff available in the ExGFX section here)

Screenshot 4: ExGFX FG, Donkey Kong Country 3 BG
Screenshot 5: SMW FG/BG
Screenshot 6: ExGFX FG, MLW BG

Screenshots 7 and 8: SMAS FG/BG
Screenshot 9: ExGFX/SMAS FG, SMAS BG

Screenshot 10: SMAS FG, Mario and Wario BG
Screenshots 11 and 12: SMW/SMAS FG, Donkey Kong Country BG

Screenshots 13, 14, and 15: SMW BG/FG

Screenshot 16: SMW (enlarged) FG
Screenshot 17: SMW FG, Donkey Kong Country 2 BG
Screenshot 18: SMW FG/BG

Screenshot 19: Joe and Mac FG/BG

Lakitu's Lawn on page 2: YI FG
Mushroom Hut: Original FG, Mario and Wario BG
Ruka's Beach: SMAS sand (custom edits to include slopes and palm trees that tile) FG

Pretty much every level has palette work. Even the backgrounds ripped from other games have had some work done.

Some others we haven't used yet include some more Joe and Mac backgrounds, a few more SMAS ones, one or two more from MLW, something from a Batman game, some scenery from Mickey's Magical Adventure, as well as some miscellaneous ones my co-author found. We have a pretty neat cloud background and a nice mountain background.

Red coins are Yoshi coins, but it is a SM64 influence. In Mario 64, red coins were worth 2 coins, so we implemented that, and collecting them all in a level gives you a 1-up. We also have the 5-coin blue coins that mikey made. We've been tying in a lot of things from other Mario games.

We considered having Toad or Peach be the main character, but have made no moves yet. Right now we're concerned with completing levels. There'll be plenty of time later to insert ExGFX, touch up palettes, insert music, or whatever.
It's looking really good.
