But...that's a fansite...

Also the picture they show is the beginning of the trailer for Charizard and Greninja, which I'm not going to take as confirmation. After all, I'm sure not all of the Pokemon seen in it will actually be in the game...

Doesn't change the fact that there was footage of Snivy among all the Pokeball Pokemon that had been confirmed thus far (along with a few others) in the most recent trailer.

Also Serperior couldn't exactly work as a fighter... I mean, movement would be... awkward...

It's all well and good to accept that as confirmation since they've actually made a full skeleton model of Snivy. Which they wouldn't have bothered doing if it was just a collectable trophy.

That's honestly conclusive enough for me to call him being in the game. I can't think of why they would put him in the trailer if he wasn't in the game, and they were obviously trying to divide Pokeball Pokes from playable Pokes.

However, I think they won't put any more Pokemon into the game, barring Jiggs of course. The fact that they put two humanoid (i.e. stands on two legs) Pokes into this game is astonishing to me. With Jiggs, that would be 5 Pokes, which seems like their limit (PokeTrainer was 3 in 1 but we'll conveniently ignore that).

We've got 29 characters now, and assuming Falcon, Ness, and Jiggs make it in, that puts it at an even 32. That leaves around 4 or 5 slots left for characters.

Veterans left:
Dr. Mario (no)
Falco (probably diversified into more of a semi-clone, like Luigi)
Ganondorf (I don't see a good reason for them to put him into this game, unless they're saving him for the Falcon reveal or redoing his moveset)
Ice Climbers (this seems pretty likely to me, they're so unique)
Ike (probably a new Fire Emblem character in his place)
Ivysaur (not likely)
Lucas (yeah, I'm not seeing him make it back in)
Meta Knight (Sakurai, misinterpreting the competitive scene, might just leave him out in a misguided attempt to attract hardcore players)
Mewtwo (with two humanoid pokes already, he doesn't seem likely)
Pichu (hell no)
Pokemon Trainer (virtually already deconfirmed)
ROB (seems more like a one-off to me)
Roy (if not a new FE character, than Ike would get his place)
Snake (ok not likely)
Squirtle (same as Ivy)
Wario (seems like a good fit, could go either way)
Wolf (with Falco still on the ropes, probably not)
Young Link (obsolete)

As others have said for me he was shown in the Charizard/Greninja Trailer amongst other Pokeball Pokemon so it wasn't really jumping to conclusions as such. Granted if it's anything like SSBM's opening some pokemon that appeared in that were not in pokeballs :P

There's no such thing as character slots.

I know that. I'm going by the fact that Sakurai has said he's aiming for around the same amount of characters as Brawl.
Didn't he say he's aiming for the same amount of Newcomers?
Your layout has been removed.
The Pokémon that appeared in the Greninja reveal trailer were just random Pokémon, right? That's what I keep thinking. Is there something that all of those Pokémon have in common?

But how do you know that Snivy has been 3D modeled with a skeleton? I highly doubt the footage that's at the beginning of every newcomer reveal video is gameplay footage. The makers of the first part of the video could have simply drawn everything on, making the footage like a 2D sprite. But I have no idea how you'd make a video like the first parts of newcomer reveal trailers in the first place.

I don't know, maybe they imported something from PokéPark 2 or Pokémon X and Y. Nah, probably not because of shading issues.

Well, I'm definitely not going to take Snivy appearing in footage like that as confirmation. They could simply be random Pokémon with no connection to Super Smash Bros., which is what I think. Like what 1UPdudes said, look at Super Smash Bros. Melee's introduction. I'm not going to say that Snivy is confirmed until I actually see it come out of a Pokéball during actual gameplay footage, see it as a trophy, Sakurai confirming it via Miiverse, or somehow see it in the actual video game and not a video showing non-gameplay footage, cutscene, or THP (Wii video file, used in games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii).

What they have in common is that all of them have appeared in Smash Bros. from a Pokeball item before, including the ones revealed in the direct.

So we can all assume that the ones that have not been shown in the game (Like Snivy and Inkay) are Pokeball assists.

Because the Snivy model had an idle animation? It wasn't completely still and lifeless? That's sort of how 3D animation works.

Nope, he said that he's not aiming for more characters, but more diverse characters. I'd guess 40 is tops for how many characters will be in SSB4.

They've made them for promotional videos before, so it's not too much of a stretch to assume the same is possible here.

although looking at the picture again, all the other Pokemon seen there ARE confirmed as appearing in the game, so...

Where has he said this? An actual link would be nice.

It was in my last post, a couple posts up in the thread.

Meanwhile:

Seems like the Wii Fit Studio has some WarioWare elements to it.

I'm hoping that Lucas from earthbound can make a rebound (no pun intended). Lucas is my favorite character, besides his "pikan thunder" technique as a last resort to make it back on the stage AKA triple jump. If Lucas doesn't make it into SSB4, Lucario would likely take the podium.

1: He's from MOTHER 3, not EarthBound. NESS is from EarthBound.
2: It's PK, not "pikan" :p

(I have no idea why it's "PK"; EarthBound changes it to "PSI", which makes somewhat more sense since it's psychic power...)

Anyway, I would love it if Lucas returned. Lucas is awesome :D

Actually, PK is the correct term. PK refers to psychokinesis, while PSI refers to ESP. PK was the term used in Mother 2, while Earthbound incorrectly refers to every psychic attack as PSI. [Source]
