Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS

Interesting. Sakuray said that the last characters would be fanservice so I'm wondering who is actually at the top of that Smash Ballot. I doubt if Chrom and K.Rool where high up they'd just be made as costumes.

As for tournament mode. Cool. We can have a SMWC one!

Lastly the stages they are bringing back are nice. Apparently there are some leaks of other stages such as a Dr.Mario and Great Bay one...
Looks like that the requested characters on the fighter ballot
will be all mii costumes.
So a lot of people have been wondering if Shovel Knight is coming to Smash.

An European retail site posted this and quickly deleted it. It looks real (and also looks like we will be getting third party amiibo, considering this one has the official nintendo seal). Also, there have been some sites with "reliable sources" that were told that Shovel Knight is indeed coming to Smash.

PAX Prime is this weekend. Yacht Club games have been teasing a "MEGATON" announcement this week, along with the new Plague Knight campaign. Nintendo is going to PAX and reserved a lot of Smash Bros. space (for a tournament, I think).

So is Shovel Knight being revealed this week at PAX? Seems very possible, actually considering all this. I just wonder if he was picked out of ballot votes and if he is the only character that we'll get from the ballot.
Shovel Knight would be a great fit, so I hope he gets in. At the same time, I hope some other characters get in too...
Sakurai did state in a previous interview that the last few DLC characters would all be "fan-service" so it wouldn't surprise me if Shovel Knight did get in.

I'd much rather like to see Commander Video included as some Indie representation but yah na...
It's prolly because Yacht Club Games have been fairly aggressive in making Shovel Knight a household name. He's made cameos in several indie games (Road Redemption comes to mind) and has gotten the goddamn Battletoads to appear in its xbone version. Not to mention that the upcoming Plague Knight game shows that they're expanding the series and we can probably expect similar titles in the future. Even if Shovel Knight doesn't appear in sm4sh its still a nice way to get some merchandising in and keeping the name big.

The amiibo's not for Smash, as far as I can tell- even the deleted tweet showed that the amiibo was "Shovel Knight" series instead of "Super Smash Bros" series. I don't think Shovel Knight will be in- at least, not yet. The ballot's still not over yet.
<Adam> I feel like smwc is a prostitute now, because we put up a porn ad for money
On a different note, there's a tourney open for anyone who has a PAX pass at the convention center right now. There's like, at least five different tournies that I know. Too bad that even though it's only 20 minutes from where I live, I can't join in any of them.

There are still some points to him being in smash. Such as the concept art for the Amiibo having a Smash Bros. series trophy base (although maybe the concept artist made a mistake an thought every amiibo had the Smash Bros. base.). Also Tamaki, the person who had the initial sources reaffirms he will come to Smash (linked to the first thought, maybe his source saw the concept art and concluded he would be in Smash). And finally, we got a Smash Bros. online maintenance for both versions coming tomorrow. Not entirely sure if they did maintenance before any other major updates before, though. They did for the last one.

However, if Shovel Knight is real, then that would mean the characters from the ballot have been worked on for some time now. It would be even more weird if they release him at the same time they're announced like Roy and Ryu, too. Unless he is not considered from the ballot. Shady...

Speaking of speculation, some days ago another rumor popped out about Layton being in, too. His voice actor may had accidentally confirmed it, but he could have been joking. Later clarified that Nintendo would know before he did. source

We might not be getting new DLC, but maybe just a simple balance patch or a something like a fixed tourny mode. In fact, the most likely thing that will happen is nothing at all. Just maintenance.
Bump and double post but...

New Stage incoming!

Based on Mario Maker and being released this September 30th.
it also has slopes

Which also means the next update, along with a possible balance patch will be that day.

We might get a few more surprises with the patch, too. Considering the ballot ends just 3 days after the release date.
Gotta be honest. That looks fun as hell to play on. Wonder what the Omega's gonna look like, though.

I smell leaks popping out that day.

Also I need more money to purchase the stuff that will come in the next update(s).

Who knows, the Roy/Ryu leak happened because they released the update a day early in Japan. And before that, because of leftover data from the Mewtwo patch.

I'm sure they've learned their lesson, as the last patch, the one that added the 2 n64 stages, have no traces of unreleased dlc. But you never know.

Just a little less than 3 weeks until the ballot ends.

Also the price for the stage is up, its a little more than the other stages, maybe because its new? Eh. Check your region on the official site to get the corresponding currency from your country.

I'm actually more interested on the balance patch that will come with the update, if any. Really do appreciate how characters who were pretty bad on release are actually viable now. I'd like to see more of that so tournaments aren't riddled with Shieks and Rosalinas.
rosalina needs a big nerf anyway
Bump.

The update has been released. The Mario Maker stage can now be purchased.

As a surprise, the Duck Hunt stage is on 3DS now for free and Pirate Ship from Brawl returns on Wii U only (paid dlc).

Replays are dead, indicating balance chances have been done to some extent.

Also more Mii costumes. We monster hunter now.

People will begin datamining the update soon, we'll see if there are any interesting things inside it as well.
Nice Pirate Ship from Brawl, I liked that stage very much.

And I hope people find some information about any new character.
It appears there are no references to any new characters in the update. Guess they really did learn their lesson.

But anyway, one massive change to the game was that every attack does more shield stun now. This means if you are hit while in shield, it takes more time for you to be able to move again. This means aggression on shields is now encouraged rather than moving back and going for a grab. We can probably expect more shield breaks to happen.

Last patched nerfed all rolls and dodges by 1 frame. This one now nerfs shields.

I'm liking this bigger focus on aggression. Now we only need it so you can only aerial dodge once, much like melee but maybe still being able to act out after an airdodge, and we are set for a better, faster, combo heavy game. Maybe a little less landing lag on aerials, too.

In other news, the ballot ends very soon. Vote while you still have the chance. I wonder if they'll make any reveals soon. Ballot ones will probably take a while as they count them up and design models and possibly handle licenses for third party ones, if any.
*Sigh* Well, rest in peace replays...

As for the new Mario Maker stage I think it's pretty cool. A nice addition to the game. Also glad to see the Wind Waker stage returning as well as it was one of stages I didn't mind playing on. I still have money on my Wii U so I'll probably buy them next time I go on as well as the stages I haven't bought yet.

Huh that's actually really interesting that was changed. I also wasn't aware of he nerfed rolls and dodges. I'm liking this quite a bit.

The only problem with this change is that characters like Lucario can force a shield break with some attacks, like Lucario just charging his Aura Sphere. If you get caught on an edge (or a small platform where you can't get away so easily), your only hope is to know how to move yourself when getting hit while shielding. Otherwise, you're guaranteed to get a shield break. If this happens on the very edge of the stage (somehow)...guaranteed death. For little work on the part of the opponent. In high-level play, it's not unbeatable. But for those who don't even know this is possible, it's extremely powerful, so I'm expecting the next patch to revert this change, or make it so these specific attacks can't lock you in shieldstun forever.

Yeah, it's gonna be fixed, it's definitely not intended and very casual unfriendly, which isn't what Sakurai is about.

Also, about the "(somehow)", a lot of characters have attacks that don't seem like they would make you move, but actually propel you forward in a direction when you use it in a specific way, so with Lucario you can just towards someone, hit B and away from the opponent in rapid succession (without doing it at the same time, that'd trigger side-B) and Lucario will fly towards them with his back (and the sphere) turned towards them.
Game & Watch's bucket and Lucas' absorb do the same iirc, along with more than enough others (especially charge-type moves).
Your layout has been removed.
Tomorrow ends the Smash Bros Fighter Ballot.
Will Sakurai reveal the results?
