Clint Mansell - Requiem for a Dream
I was looking for an orchestral song that would stand out for Idol. I found this one in a Lord of the Rings related video. Upon research, I found who composed it. I like this song because it resembles different emotions that can be addressed in music. Some parts of it were pretty hard to manually get track of.
Super Meatboy - Ballad of the Burning Squirrel
This is a revision of one of the first ports I ever made. I stumbled upon the beautiful Super Meatboy soundtrack because of a classmate who told me about it. I have to say, this piece of music gave me quite a hard time. And while I'll not say it's perfect, and if I could I would still redo some parts, I still like how it came out and how much positive response I get from it.
Donkey Kong Country 3 - Northern Kremisphere
The first DKC port I made. I chose this song particularly because it seemed easily doable. Then I found out it uses weird dot lengths combined with triplets. This port was made in one week for Idol as well. I really dig the atmosphere, it doesn't surprise me, as it is from Eveline Fischer.
Kirby Squeak Squad - Prism Plains
The first unsampled request I ever made without using TinyMM, or whatever they use these days. It's my best submitted song so far, and I like how the Kirby feel really gets on with the SMW instruments. It was probably the last port I've ever used a MIDI for as well.
Donkey Kong Country - Jungle Groove
The first song in Donkey Kong Country, I remember pausing the game back in the day to just listen to this beautifully done music. I like the swing of this song, and I like how the tunes are still being used in recent games regarding Donkey Kong. This port is not finished, and will likely be redone. I have major tempo issues at the moment, and the slowdown is not something that I'd say is a positive thing.
Donkey Kong Country - Treetop Rock
Another sampled DKC port. The second one I've started working on. I like this song because it gripes the feeling of where you actually are really well, like most DKC songs do. One of Eveline Fischer's better works in my opinion. I love the progression of the song, and the grooviness that just really gets you into it.
Donkey Kong Country 2 - Forest Interlude
What is to say about Forest Interlude that hasn't been said? It's just magical, and there hasn't been made an accurate and definite good unsampled version of this song yet. I'm now figuring out how to handle most of the envelopes correctly. I can definitely see a lot of ways for this song being used in a hack. One of the most recognizable songs of Donkey Kong Country 2 as well.
Donkey Kong Country 2 - Mining Melancholy
I dared to take this beast, and while it was heavily inspired by this song made by some japanese guy
. I still quite brainstormed on this port, resulting in some really tricky stuff mainly regarding the mechanical drum beat. There aren't any ambient samples in SMW at all, so it is hard to grasp a song that uses a lot of non-instrumental samples like that. I was really surprised by the amount of positive responses I got from this, I never thought an ambient song could work in SMW like that. The original song was truly a master piece of David Wise, it did everything right. The port is nearing its completion, so I hope you guys like it as much as others do. And this is just prove that it is possible to make songs sound good with SMW samples.
Donkey Kong Country 2 - Krook's March
[U] (Huge WIP)
This is just a song I like. Simple as that. Nobody has done it properly before, so I figured why not. It's work in progress right now, and I have a good idea of what I want with it. I just hope the orchestral piece will end up sounding good.
I hate spoiling it, but I'm working on a Minecraft soundtrack, hurray. I will port all of it by ear, and use custom made sampled by ear.
