Peach in the Middle

Standard

Hello guys !
Maybe some of you know me as I am hacking SMW since 2008 and also got some Hacks uploaded (for example Mario's Treasure Hunt and Mario's Treasure Hunt 2) and now I am working on my next Project.

Story: Well, I know that all this Peach stuff seems to be overused, but I thought of something different this time. This hack will be splitted into two parts. In the first part you'll play Baby Bowser who is on a mission to kidnap Peach. He has to kidnap her out of her Castle. In the second Part the Player will be Mario and it's up to you to get Peach back!

Graphics: So except the Player graphics and Overworld I'll try to draw almost everything on my own (as you can see in the screenshots below)

Worlds: So there'll be 7 Worlds in total:

1 - Bowser's Valley
2 - Forest
3 - Desert
4 - Volcano
5 - Island
6 - "no spoiler so far, cause I think that this one is totally new"
7 - Canalization

Screenshots:

You can see the Desert world here. The OW Player is still Mario, but I am going to change this for sure (same about the border).

This is the Pyramid Level which you can see on the Overworld in the screenshot above. These graphics are made by me as well.

That's one of these "a-bit-boring"-Levels. It's the first one of the Volcano world. (It's not a custom Sprite - this is just a buzzy beetle which has been thrown). The fountains are animated.

Here you can see the Castle of the Volcano world. The spikes are animated.

This is the Boss of this Castle. He throws Rocks at you in different speeds.

I've shown not much of this Hack. The best Parts won't be spoilered, because this Hack might be released in December'13 if my work or social life don't stop me.

Finished Exits (25th. July) 11 / 58

I'm looking forward to read your opinions and suggestions :)

Moving to Works in Progress, as it fits there.

Well, for my input:

The worlds that you've listed is interesting, along with the story.

For the screenshots:

Doesn't seem that bad to me. The sand castle(?) and the castle should need more shadings. (Perhaps making the train a bit more wrecked/sunken on the sand?)

Quote

I like the background here, but the pillars seems to disturb me, although it may be just me.

I like this BG. It looks appealing due to the lava that can be seen on the other side.

Well, the graphics here may need a more shading or two.

That aside, your level design isn't bad so far. And keep it up!
-Overworld looks fine, but changing the palette of the ligher sand tiles would be nice, they are too bright.

-The Layer 1 tiles in the OW are too simple and need more shading (except the pipes).

-The background in the Pyramid level looks very confusing, to be honest. Making the plaette darker would probably fix that.

-The fountain on the volcano level looks pretty neat; it's a simple idea, but it works surprisingly well. Be careful with the design of the level though, becuase I'm not sure if it's a good idea to make it 'a bit boring'.

-The castle looks nice overall, but the graphics ae too simple and need more shading.

-Ball and chain looks a bit too simple and pillow-shaded, but it could be just me #ab{:P}

-I personally think you could make the boss battle more interestging, if the boss really only throw rocks. Try to be creative with the boss level!

---------------

Otherwise this is looking very nice! The design isn't bad and the worlds/story are interesting. Keep it up! #ab{:)}
Looks and sounds interesting so far. I like the idea as starting off playing Bowser Jr. Does that mean you won't be able to play past levels when you switch to Mario though? How is it going to work? Or have you figured that out yet.

As for the screenshots:

1)

Looks good. I will admit thought that the buildings beside Bowser Jr. could do with some more shading and detail. The train might also require a little bit more work. Overall, good overworld.

2)

I think you need to darken the background a bit, it's a bit too light for my tastes and I'm finding it hard to see Bowser Jr. as it is.

3)

I'm liking the graphics for the snake, they look really good.

Level design is looking really well. Can't wait to see more.

Extras

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

Background in the pyramid level needs better contrast.

You have some nice custom graphics shown based on the screenshots.

I would recommend two things:

1. As the others said, darken the palette of the Pyramid level even though the distinction between BG and FG is clear.

2. The pipes in the overworld appear rather flat, maybe you can make them in a top-down perspective?
Modern Redrawn Mario Bros. 1.5 (last update - February 14, 2023, some new bonus frames, tons of minor touchups to various poses)

On Pixel Art Requests: Depends on what it is and if I have the time for it. If its complex and I don't have the time, don't expect me to accept it.

Projects I support:

The overworld and custom additions are incredible, while the levels themselves are simply amazing.

You have done an excellent job.
Try my Kaizo hack!

Will accept other hacks.

Currently Testing: Nothing!

PM me if you want your hack tested.
Thanks for that all =)
So tbh I sometimes have some problems with good shading but I'll try my best to fix the last little issues.
And as Mario you'll visit some old maps you already visited with Bowser jr. , but you'll take another path that you can't play the levels again.
The desert Overworld in the first screen won't be visited with Mario again. Some other Bowser jr Maps will be visited by mario by Pipe-Shortcuts.
Thanks again for the replies ^.^
