The chicken was in a Dreamworks movie, and like every dreamworks movie, that chicken was bound to that side of the road. They were a rich family of chickens, but the chicken wanted 'something more' Thus, he crossed over to the other side.

To the enter the fortress of Kentucky Fried Castle, and rescue the Chicken Princess from being battered by tht evil french fry, only to find out the chicken is in another castle. Then after crushing ketchup packs sent by KFC, the chicken crosses another street and frees the chicken nugget from drowning in the mashed potatos. But, the chicken is in another Kentucky Fried Castle. Finally he manages to save the real chicken princess from the big biscuit. The chicken saved the princess from the evil clutch of Kentucky Fried Castle.

....and this my friend, is why teh chicken crossed the road.
