Complete Darkness sounds really good, although it's not a song I'm extremely familiar with, so unfortunately, I have nothing else to say about it. As usual, the instrumentation is very nice!

I love what you did with Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom ~ Nuclear Fusion It's not extremely dramatic, which is good, because I feel like the CAUTION overlay thing and the siren (if you're planning on including them) would make it dramatic.

Instrumentation and what I generally like:
I love the background piano starting at around 0:25
The very quiet twinkle instrument starting at around 0:44 adds a nice touch to the song
1:28 The little glissando is perfect

Also, I feel like the tempo is very slightly slower than the original (but now I'm listening to the original, and I guess I just always imagined the song to be faster...)

Overall, the ports are amazing. Maybe SSoMW ~ NF could have the background instruments be a bit louder? Also, I know it's hard to capture with SMW, but the part starting at 1:28 feels slightly empty. My criticisms are pretty minor though, so even as-is, the port is really nice.

Also, for Makai characters, I would love to see Yuki and Mai, mostly because I LOVE Treacherous Maiden ~ Judas Kiss, and I would love to see how you would port it (I have MIDIs of Maple Wise (MS Stage 4 theme), as well as Yuki and Mai's individual and shared themes.)
Wait, how can you actually get the ZUNpets to go through the SNES hardware? Can the SNES really emulate something like this? I am really curious as to how that would work; probably something relating to lowering the quality of them? I dunno. XD

But yeah, these themes are pretty damn good! I really like that you`re including Mima in this game, too. XD

Now, for a Makai character... well, I dunno, I would go for Shinki on this one, though if you are wanting to add more PC98 characters, then how about Yumemi? Her theme is EASILY one of my favorites of the PC98 era, and I am pretty sure you could do an amazing remix of her theme. XD

Hmm...I just had a thought as far as potential levels go. Not sure if I can say I see it happening, but I figured I'd through it out there. What are the possibilities of implementing the SkyPop from Mario Land in this game? I could see it being used to create somewhat of an in-between of Touhou and Mario...well, basically Gradius. Dunno though. Other than that though, another thought I had was the Rocket from Mario 2. If you wanted to implement characters from LoLK or SSiB, I'd imagine this would be how you do it, having the rocket take Mario/Luigi to the moon. Again though, just a thought. Figured I'd check as far as the possibilities go. :P

And don't worry about the fact you're not able to use this hack's songs right now. We plan to share a few resources with the community once we relase the finished hack (yes that may include some of our bosses and asm gimmicks too!).

About the zunpet... well, it wasn't that hard go get it in. In my case here, I mostly had to find a workaround with them when ripping from the soundfont, since the .wav inside included its strong vibrato and tremolo... which made looping pretty tricky. Thankfully, messing with commands inside spc700 (as in, adding a very filled echo, tremolo and vibrato) made it sound close to original. The sample itself is just around 1.70KB (indeed had to lower quality a tiny bit, to not make it go overflow on higher notes), and it probably won't work in any port outside of Touhou if you don't give it particular commands inside the .txt like I do.

Making this post also to announce that we're going to post less from now on. We prefer showing one big update rather than many tiny ones (like all the spc posts I did). We're still here to hear about your thoughts and ideas, so please, feel free to post them!
I have to jump in and say that if you want to include LoLK characters, I would absolutely adore to see Sagume (she is probably my favourite Touhou character.) Also, her stage theme is one of my favourite Touhou songs. And to top it off, I have MIDIs of both. Other than Sagume, I love pretty much every single LoLK character equally, so…

You're going to release one of the things that gives yalls' hack identity? I'm going to assume that the bosses will require SA-1 to work, as well as some form of advanced health system. Or do you plan to optimize the bosses to work with regular SMW's standards?

My opinion is that you shouldn't release any of the hacks bosses; if you guys want to release bosses, why not make some unique, three-hit bosses that don't require any chips and release those? The Touhou bosses made for this hack give it identity, and releasing said identity will eventually take away the novelty this hack has. #tb{:(}

Releasing music and gimmicks is a different story though.

Again, any sort of feedback appreciated on this. It took me just 2 days to make, for some reason (I'd blame the repetitive patterns this music has).

Also, we're looking for another Makai character to add. Me and Vitor are planning something big, but we're not going to spoil anything; and, well, we ran out of Makai characters. Feel free to suggest some you'd love to see!


So You are using a Character that only appeared in Touhou 1, 2, 3, and 5? I like the song though.

Nop, sadly. Only SPCs are available for listen. I won't hide that I'm probably going to rework it a bit, since I'm not 100% satisfied with it. So ya, until I don't get a near-to-definitive version of her theme, you have to listen to SPCs.

Yes. If you didn't see the gif of one of her arena scenarios, this time there will be a proper battle with Okuu. I'll push Vitor to make this one of the most memorable battles, since she's my fav Touhou char <3

I find it odd we have the same avatar. Anyway, I hope Nuclear Radiation is also just as equal a threat as lava is in her stage. Utsuho Reiuji is my second favorite character because I played Touhou 8 first and Mokou Fujiwara/Fujiwara No Mokou is my favorite for personality and immortality. (and that she is different.) The only thing I hate or dislike about Utsuho is the nickname everyone calls her. (Even with the reason behind it). I find it awkward and annoying. Will I be able and allowed to do a full 100% no Savestate Playthrough of this when it is done and maybe even a Let's Play on it in General afterward?

Hello my friends it's been a while since I did a post there. Since Wakana didn't show anything new besides new song ports, I kinda felt obligated to show something from my part, after all I'm responsible for all ASM related work there.

Honestly I wasn't working on bosses for a while because I was having several difficulties while Nue and additionally I always had to help in behind scenes stuff. For example the hack now has leod's patch included (sprite<->platform interaction patch) and I was forced to port the entire uberASM patch code to a new uberASM tool that I had to code because I was having freespace difficulties (bank limits) with the patch version.

Either way, I hope to start showing more stuff soon. I will try doing more bosses now and polish the previous ones (Nazrin to Nue), additionally a few new game mechanics to give the hack a completely different feel comparing to Super Mario World.

I hope you guys like. Be sure to post feedback and your reactions if possible, that's pretty important to me have an idea on how to make the bosses back, since unlike songs you can't play or experiment the bosses for obvious reasons :P

sorry to disturb you like this but I have a question when the smw heck in finish it was okay if you could send it to me so I can test it out because so far I really like the work that you did here I've been taking little inspiration from the colors itself

also before I forget that is one thing I really would like all the time I'm going to put the image so it's my favorite touhou characters

Ooh, lookin' hype! Can't wait to see more of the bosses! Just looking at the Nazrin video from some time back, the bosses seem even more creative than the bosses in Touhou Mario 1, so I'm looking forward to what all you have in store! ouo

The Ruse Rain port is amazing! (Ahhhh, I wish I could get my hands on all of those MIDIs...) The instrumentation is very nice, it captures the feel of the original really well, and it doesn't even feel like a SMW port! The part at 2:22 sounds slightly empty, but it's already really amazing considering the SNES' music engine.

As for the spells, I'm not that familiar with UFO's extra (never 1cc'd the game...) , but I've seen videos here and there, and I recognize a lot of the patterns. Nice job recreating them, Vitor! Would it be potentially possible to put a video/GIF up so we could get more of a "feel" of how the boss looks like? I know you've already put up one GIF. But I understand if you'd rather not, so as to keep the battle itself more of a surprise. I also love the bullet, UFO, and Nue graphics. The Nue sprite seems to have a SMW feel to it, which I find fitting.
Also, what is Luigi doing in the screenshot where he's outlined in yellow and has his hands together? Is it supposed to be like a bomb/spell?

But wow, this looks amazing. Keep up the good work! I'd be happy to help in any way I can~
Since we haven't posted any stage update for a while, I decided to make a playthough of the current Stage 1. Enjoy.
