The Hack Assistance Thread 2.0

Oh, duh, I was thinking of the wrong level.

Swim underneath the landmass with the pipe that takes you to the underwater section with the fire flower.

Note that you definitely need a fire flower in order to get the secret exit, as shown below.

Can someone explain how to attack in this fight and this fight?

they're literally a waiting game

when you get that green sparkling thingy, Carbuncle comes down and casts Ruby Light, giving Mario the Reflect status (Mario starts glowing green when he has it on)

after that, just dodge Shinryuu and Omega's attacks and pray to RNGesus that they use Atomic Ray (the yellow laser with red stripes, アトミックレイ) so it gets reflected and hits them

if Mario stops glowing, get Carbuncle again

try not to touch Shinryuu and Omega btw, their sprites hurt Mario

i'll be honest they're pretty lame fights
impressive, but not very fun

Rockman 4 Minus Infinity pulled off the concept of "what if Omega was in a platform game instead of an RPG" so much better if you ask me (it is based on the Cockroach Twins from vanilla!MM4 but still)

sorry carol

Shinryuu = the dragon
Omega = the spider mech

Can anyone suggest to me any hacks with a particularly non-punishing sense of level design that picks up at about vanilla world 6 difficulty, preferrably with a semi-chocolate feel?
I've become very grumpy these last few years, and have been biting my tongue here in SMWC's forums quite a bit. I just want to let you all know that if ever I come off as harsh, I still care about you all. You guys are great.

I would highly recommend pretty much any of Gamma V's hacks. I did a Let's Play of Mario & Luigi: Starlight Island Adventure (TheMartianGeek on YouTube) if you'd like to check it out. I would say they're definitely harder than vanilla SMW (the original SMW was pretty easy, even in World 6), but they're still among the easier hacks I've played. I suppose you could try SMW2+3: The Essence Star as well if you don't mind playing it on ZSNES (blegh), but that hack's difficulty curve is...unusual.

(On a side note, welcome to the site. You seem like a pretty good user so far, though I notice you haven't posted in the introduction thread.)

----------------

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
I'll be sure to check out Gamma V's work! Thanks for the recommendation. As far as The Essence Star goes, ZSNES has been dead to me ever since I discovered ZMZ, so I'll pass on that one.

I didn't really see much point to posting in the introduction thread, I suppose. People will learn all they need to about me from what I say anyways, ye?

It's at the begin of the level. See below:

Get up there. It's a door.

Oh My Goodess! This was pretty mean secret! Thanks for help!
This Hack Needs a Name, Pipe Dream.

Any hints towards finding it's secret exit?
It doesn't have one, the pipe above it is reached from the Ice World.
I'm looking for a hack that has average-above average level design that uses Vanilla graphics in a manner that's both different and clever.

The length doesn't matter....
OK, now I've run into a new problem in This Hack Needs a Name. Where can I find the star that I can hold in the box where you can hold other powerups?
Secret Star Road's secret exit. You do it through a star run, the first star is above the beginning of the level, right before the winding bit with the parakoopas.
Where is the secret exit in VLDC 8 Variety Path? I can't seem to find it anywhere. I only need to find the secret to complete all worlds. Thanks in advance!

There's a walkthrough for getting the secret exits in VLDC8, found here.
I'm looking for a hack that:

-Works in accurate emulators
-Is very focused on fun factor and/or level design
-Doesn't use healthbars or alter core physics of the game
-Is still a Mario hack and doesn't try to completely separate itself from Mario
-Contains creative ideas

I don't care about what "genre" or "flavor" of hack it is so go nuts otherwise.

Hacks I have played and enjoyed, so you know my tastes:
-Super Mario Bros: Invaders of the Mushroom Kingdom
-This Hack Needs A Name
-Super Mario World Remix
-Vanilla Twist
-Lunar Legends
I'm going to ride my own cock but also put another hack in here.

Another Special World
Call Of Cthulhu

For Call Of Cthulhu, I recommand making a savestate at the beggining of every entrances of another sublevel, or you could just play it all without a single save in one shot.
forgot to mention I'm a strict savestateless player, which means that hacks that go on forever or require knee-jerk reactions and literally perfect gameplay are not for me.
I'm looking for this one hack that I played years ago. It had one huge overworld and
There was a 8-bit boss fight with Bowser that had an 8-bit water level after it

It's probably not on the site anymore since this was like 6 years ago but I really hope someone knows what I'm talking about. It was my favorite hack.
