I swear, American is just going to continue to blame each other instead of actually going something about the financial crisis.

May people should write their congressmen and tell them how disgusted they are with what's going on.

That aside, to those who are actually affected by this: whether it's college, your loved ones out of work, or a government job, etc. How do you feel about this?

Its really embarrassing actually. They are acting like a bunch of incompetent babies, stomping their feet because they cant agree on something to do the most simple thing, the most basic job that countries who have far bigger problems then us, manage to do on time every year. Seriously I'd like to hear about instances of this happening in other countries where it doesnt end in congress all being fired. Because thats what happens when you dont do your job. You don't get to act like a toddler and get paid doing nothing while 800,000 people are without pay until you put your big girl panties on.

Even calling it a "shutdown" irks me, I know this isnt exactly how it went down, but you dont get to pick and choose what gets shutdown and be like "herp derp, yep, we shutdown the whole government and everythings still fine" No, no you didnt. You didnt even shutdown the half of the government and theres almost a million people who arent working now. Goodjob. You don't care, you're still getting paid, and its going to stay like that until you get your way.

They might try to hide behind how they couldnt solve the "whole" budget, but we all know its over the affordable health care act, which, unless things have changed, isnt affected by the shutdown at all and has gone into effect

Goodjob

Yeah, so what if I haven't shoveled out my signature yet, I'll get to it later.

I agree entirely with BloodyToothBrush.
And it sucks that they are still getting paid. They should deduct half the pay off all congressman for this check and with the money they make-- it should cover at least a percentage of this crisis.

And it is embarrassing. Very. Sad for a bunch of "adult" men.

Yeah, that'll never happen :/

This sucks. Hard. Christ, what the hell is wrong with these people. I just--gah. Words. Anger.

Like, I know that I'm technically in no position to be saying that I know better than someone who "runs" the country, but the fact that these slovenly pigs are still having their pockets stuffed with money while people who rely on government benefits are suffering is absolutely disgusting.

God damn.

Kay. I need something to cheer me up. If there's one (one) good thing to come out of this, it makes for some nice comedic material.

Stop telling the gov't to stop acting like spoiled brats. They aren't acting.

I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.
They should just split the country up. May or may not solve the problems, but at least there'd be a valid attempt.

^ HAHAHAHAno.

This is actually a thing for me; since my workplace is owned by the government and is also going to be closed for the duration of the shutdown, I'm actually going to be out of a job (just a weekend thing, but still) for the time being.

Why can't the White House and Congress just get their shit together already.

Because the whole White House and Congress is busy feeding himselfs with mcdonalds?

This actually caught me off guard, though only because I forgot that the budget talks were coming up.

To be honest, the government is already pretty much organized crime (government workers are taxed, after being payed tax money?) so I wasn't in the least surprised when I heard the news.

I didn't notice.
You want to know something interesting? I was having a conversation with someone and they brought up this possibility.

{friend}: Speaking of government, you know if this shutdown nonsense goes on until November we go to Marshal law right?

Scrydan: Hmm, I did not know or at least it isn't coming to mind.

{friend}: Neither did I until recently. That's quite the looming threat there. but it does have the get it together or else Obama is president for life threat that would get things moving.

I don't know what plausibility it is since I haven't looked too much into it. But it does pose a question of what will happen if it continues. It really is just complete and utter garbage that it has gone this low. I really wished we'd just kick them all out and start over and propose more important things. Like government being banned from accepting money for campaigns and other stuff. No being paid for no work. ...we could go on for days.

I just hope it will disenfranchise some of the batshit-crazies, like those in the Tea Party who think a default is better than allowing Obamacare.

I have a hard time believing they will be gone any time soon unfortunately

Crisis averted. I just heard on RTE news that a deal has been reached.

Although I'm Irish, thank god this was avoided. This could have turned out very bad.

So there's one thing I don't get. Obamacare was already made into law, wasn't it? Like, it's officially a thing now. Whether or not you agree with it (I do, because I'm dirt poor and will be happy to know that if I get sick I won't ever have to decide between health or, say, food, but that's irrelevant), it's happened now. So, uh, why the hell is the country now being held hostage now? If this had happened before Obamacare was passed I probably could have just said, "well, both sides are being equally stubborn here." But...I really can't see this as anything but one side being a bunch of whiny babies over this. And even so, if we're going to weigh the supposed damage these things could cause there's absolutely no way spending some extra money to allow poor people to be healthy (gee, what a concept) could do as much damage as the U.S. defaulting on its loans. I mean seriously.

Ugh. I dunno. Someone prove me wrong if I am, because I'm probably less informed about this than a ton of other people here; this is just my current assessment of the situation.

Fakeedit: Say what you will about political cartoons (and there's often a lot to be said about them...), but I laughed at this one.

I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.
Actually you're pretty accurate, except the part about not having to choose between food and healthcare. You'll still have to make that choice with Obamacare, but it will be ever so slightly less painful.

Yeah, ACA is not effected by the shutdown.
