Now this one is interesting, I like the use of the YI music box sample in your port, makes it sound interesting for an ice theme.
Your ports are amazing! Hey y'all, Scott here!

Please know (this goes for everyone else) that I do look at all your ports that you've worked very hard for (as well as those in the SPC show off thread). I too got quite a bit of feedback when I started the YI Soundtrack but ever since it got finished, it was eh from there. I do look at everyone's stuff and appreciate it, it's jx I don't have any words that would help you to get better. I'd pretty much end up saying stuff like, "Cool!"' "This sounds great!" etc, but I wouldn't really have constructive positive feedback for you because I really have nothing to say. Anyways, jx know I appreciate your hard work (as well as everyone else's) and admire it from a distance. Keep up the amazing work regardless of feedback bc I'm always waiting for your next composition (I literally have them saved and listen to them, I will have an mp3 soundtrack of your hack, jx you wait)!
Actually, feedback of any kind helps those whom are porting just by letting them know that people are paying attention. That's my thoughts on the matter at least.
As far as the port goes, while it does sound nice. It doesn't fit an Ice level, more like a snow level. From an artistic point of view, snow and ice aren't the same thing. Anyways, it does sound empty at some points. You have 3 channels doing the same thing from the looks of it. Why not put two (or one) on a sound channel so that when a SFX comes on, percussion or whatever is on channels 6-8 (5-7 on .txt) don't get cut off.
Why hasn't anybody made ledge grabbing and crawling ASM yet?
i'd really appreciate hearing how i'm doing with anything - be it only good comments or bad, it helps me keep motivated and doing what i love most even more.
@AntiDuck: that Tengu Saturn port was a hell of a thing to make hahah, it barely fits into ARAM without any of the SMW samples in there.
The second song, those samples are actually just stolen from the Roland GM/GS soundbank predelivered with every Windows OS.
As for that third one, i really had no choice but to use the yi music box and pan flute because they captured the feeling i wanted perfectly, hahah. Thanks for your kind words, they really keep me wanting to do more~!
@LadiesMan: i know people watch the thread, but i'd love to hear anything about my stuff, read above for why because i don't wanna repeat myself. lol
@Scorpion: night/morning brain is derp, i really did mean it for snow levels hahah. The percussion is actually safe already, because only channels 7 and 8 (6-7 in txt) are SFX! it's just divided like this because those chords are really important to the song and don't want them to drop any notes.
i'll probably start batch uploading stuff anyway, since these sporadic uploads have really been confusing me as of late.

I really love how it starts out with the rising volume after the shoreline sounds, reminds me so much of Yoshi's Island theme. You did an amazing job with tropical atmosphere in my opinion! One little thing, and of course this is jx personal preference, I would've set a loop point after the the song fades in to have it loop indefinitely after the shoreline intro because to me it jx sounds a little weird how the music jx stops and then the intro starts. Or you could the music fade out as the shoreline intro begins again. Regardless, amzing, soothing to the ears as heck! (I have no idea if this is from something else, so this could very well be how the original was but if it's your custom work, then yeah...)
they're immediately ripped from midi, as are the other two samples in there. i had very little else to use, and by the time i realized yi had a good seashore sample it was too late for me to go back and use that hahah
@ladiesman: its custom like sincx said, however it's an extended version from a 1h compo.
Sounds great, though I can't help but feel like the brass (1E) and the piano (1D) are slightly detuned. Other that that I can't find any problems with it. Nice work.
I have to agree here but had Sinc-X not pointed this out, I woulda never noticed. Great nonetheless! It's ports like this that keep me wanting to get better. I hope to one one day join you, ggamer77, Sinc-X, and Torchkas in the awesome level of porting skills ya'll possess. I sorta wonder how ya'lls first ports sounded like XD. I love taking trips back in time and watching amazing people's first works. Anyways, keep on the amazing work!
reposting my irc comments in case you missed them:
<AbSeNNt> the last sample is detuned izuna
<AbSeNNt> very slightly
<AbSeNNt> it's like .. a quarter tone higher and somewhat more muffled
<AbSeNNt> the rest of it is spot-on
<AbSeNNt> also, yours is a bit slower than the original
<AbSeNNt> it falls about 2 seconds behind by the :50 mark
Nice 21900 post...
Anyway Izuna, I've always been a big fan of your ports and compositions, they are all very nice.
One has to say though, if you are looking for constructive feedback on a port you wish to sound as accurate as possible to its original counterpart, I'd suggest posting a YTlink to the original song or something for comparison. Me being not versed in music porting, won't be able to really give any kind of help...
In my opinion, those who haven't heard the original song will probably just look at the port, and if it sounds good to them, will have nothing to say other than, really nice work! And I should do that sometime.
I try to keep a good eye on the music forum due to how important music is in my hacks. xDYour layout has been removed.
