Hello, Mortal...welcome to one of my hacks that finally has some progress...Before you read this...answer these:

Is halloween your favorite holiday? If not, do you like halloween?
Do you prefer chocolate hacks with original content?

If you said yes to both of these questions, you have come to the right place. Now, let me begin the information of my hack.

Storyline: (In progress)

In the Mushroom Kingdom, at halloween day, everyone is having fun decorating their homes, giving candy to Trick-Or-Treaters, and having fun at Halloween parties. But while all that was happening...a devious villian (Unnamed) is plotting to ruin halloween and enslave those with good hearts forever in Hell. That evening, he ambushed Satin, the true ruler of hell, and then threw him into a prison he could not escape from. Then, he summoned his underlings to go to the Aether and kidnap God (Or probably a new name) and throw him in the Prison along with Satan. After the invasion, his underlings Kidnapped 7 of the main Heros: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Wario, and Waluigi. He has also sent his 6 elite guardians to guard them and don't let anyone free them.

...That's all I got for the storyline for now. If you got any ideas, lemme know. And yes, the player is NOT Mario. It is a Toad instead. A blue spotted toad, actually. He has no name either.

Here are the world themes:

W1: Graveyard. (Not named yet)
W2: Desert (Not named yet)
W3: Iceland (Named "Ghostly Glacier")
W4: Water/Park (Named "Aquatic Amusement")
W5: Sky (No name yet)
W6: Mansion (No name yet)
W7: Forest (Final world, no name)

And that's the world themes.

I'm currently working on the first level of my hack. It's called "Silhouette Sunset". It is another silhouette level, BUT there is a thing that makes the level slightly more interesting. As the level goes on, the sun goes down and level becomes less silhouette. But the bad news is I cannot make it silhouette due to sprite graphics and the background not being made yet. It would be a real pain in the ass if I was to redo the whole palette...I think.

That's almost halfway through the level. The background is not final, i'm using it as a placeholder. I've pretty much gone overboard with the enemies IMO, so i'll tone it down a bit. The level will also introduce Venus Firetraps. There are also multi-colored coins in my hack. Green Coins are worth 2 coins. Blue coins are worth 5 coins. And the rare red coins are worth 10 coins. Each level contains 4 Pumpkin Coins. You may have guessed what their purpose is; To Unlock things. And that is true. Collect them and you'll get special things coming your way. If you collect them all, something good may happen! Unfortunately, I don't have the coding for them yet, and i'm not sure if it'll be a sprite or a block. No, the status bar is not final. I know it looks bad but it'll be changed soon.

One thing to know about the player: The player is supposed to be always big, and never small. He'll also have a fire flower power, but no cape power. The health system is where you have 2 hearts. (Kinda like DKCR)

Another thing to know about my hack: The time of the day is always supposed to be night, but the first level is sunset. Also, while the main theme of my hack is Horror/dark, it shouldn't be completely that. Some of the levels will have fewer haunted enemies, and others won't have any of those at all.

And what else am I doing? Why, drawing my own graphics of course! Here are some of the things I am drawing: (These are outdated ATM)

Here are some stuff I made. (General graphics) I didn't really know how to design the multicolored platforms or pipes. (But they're not SMWCP2's. They look slightly different) Can anyone help me out?

And finally, i'm gonna tell you the themes I have for worlds 1-4. I'll tell more as I go on.

W1 themes:

11D: Swamp (Yes, I got it from DKC2. Shaddap.)
11E: Water Slide
11F: Rollercoaster
120: Underwater (It's a sunken part of the amusement park)
121: Amusement Park (Unknown gimmick)
122: Dark Ride


Legend:

Red - Not started
Orange - Working on
Yellow - Finished, but needs testing.
Green - Complete
Blue - In progress, but stopped working on.

And that's it for now.

So what do you think of the progess I have so far? I'm still learning ASM and am getting better at drawing graphics. I'd be nice if someone could make artworks of the bosses of my hack or regular sprites, anything. I'd really appreciate it.

I will tell more information as I go on with the hack. For now, have this. I'll make an ideas list and more features in this post later on. I have missed a bunch of things, but they are all minor.

And finally, congratulations to my 4000th post! Happy Halloween, mortals! Heeheeheeheehee... (Lemme know if I missed anything)
Looks good, but the status bar could be better... As it is, it's nigh-on unreadable.

Other than that, I like it and I don't think you should change the background.

Just so you know: The status bar is not final. It will be changed eventually.

The background will be changed, sorry. I needed a temporary background so I could see how the level looked like all silhouette.

Yikes! The piranha plant has a fish for a stem! In other words, apply the classic piranha plant fix patch.
Other that that minor flaw, everything else is ok, I'm actually jealous of your drawings, they are quite good XP.

Yes, I will apply the Classic Piranha Plant fix patch soon. Just ignore all these obvious bad things. They will be fixed eventually. Just a heads up.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't plan on releasing my graphics. Why? Because It does the hack more original content in it and I don't want it to become unoriginal anymore. So most likely not.

Sorry, but level design and overworld map making is all on me. But show me what you got on sprites, graphics, music and blocks. Plus, this isn't a team hack, though I am getting help from other people.

Some decorations to the graveyard levels. Thanks to Magiluigi for improving the contorted graveyard fences and other things in this tileset. Mine were really horrible. If you wanted to know what they looked like, click here.

Alright people, here's level 1: Silhouette Sunset.

IPS

I'm not actually fond of the level design as it seems kinda boring and I think repetitive, although I doubt it. Tell me your opinion.

Lot of notes to hear out for:

-The Red, Green, and Blue coins are coins that give you more than 1 coin, but at this moment they do not work properly, as I am transferring my ROM to a new ROM. Everything will be inserted soon.

-The Cyan Coins are supposed to be Pumpkin coins, but the object/sprite is not yet inserted, nor is a new status bar.

-The level is not yet silhouette as I mentioned before, because I need the final background and the final sprite graphics set up.

-The overworld's music is also not final, and the Layer 3 ATM is screwed up.

-No music in this level, as I am looking for music composers.

-The cave section where the first pumpkin coin is is a huge WIP, as I need to draw some cave graphics.

-The turn blocks are supposed to break when you hit them with a shell, since spin jump will be disabled in my hack.

-The new health system is not yet inserted as there are still bugs, me and some ASM people will fix it. Also, the player should not be small. Avoid going small because I removed the small Mario frames.

-Decorations aren't added yet.

-Midway point is subject to change into something else.

-I'm looking for your guys' opinion for the end of the level thing. There's DKC1's "Exit" sign pointing to the end of the level, DKC2's "Ring the bell and get the prize" sort of thing, or DKC3's "Raise the Flag" flagpole. Roulettes alone are Cliche. If you have any ideas, let me know.

And that's it. Lot of notes, huh? Anyways, get down to testing.

...And here's some screenshots of the upcoming level: Unbrided Undead. It introduces undead enemies, such as Boos, Eeries, Dry Bones and a custom sprite which is apparently a zombie.


That's it for now though. I still haven't worked on any decorations yet except for that tree stump I drew. I also drew new graphics for that bone although it could use some work. It's also subject to change.

It's looking good actually. Tough I prefer not posting ips level by level. First levels are always flat btw!

I do have to say that I like the graphis that you've made for your hack. For Siluhoette Sunset, I recommend fixing Mario's palette as it looks quite odd with a bit of him being completely back. I also agree with other people when they complain about the Status Bar, but you did point out that it's WIP. Once I play the level myself, I'll post again about how it can improved.

Assuming you didn't read the text, the player isn't actually Mario.

This looks neat. Definitely can't wait to see the final project (though methinks you kinda missed the deadline XD)

One question: Looking at W4 do you happen to play Left 4 Dead? XD

So remember kids! If you ever get caught having tosave a princess from a foreign land after getting dragged down a drain pipe, jumping while spinning in a circle can help you greatly by allowing you to jump on spinning saw blades, ghosts, and allow you to control your jump better!

A Boo blocks the path. Easy to get past though.

I take it that the green squares are placeholders?

BTW, its quite nice seeing a SMW hack that features user-made graphics on the creator's part. The dark colors used is quite fitting for a hack that takes a darker approach to the Mario series.

As for the graphics themselves, the dirt tileset is well made, but there could be more patterns than just the small rocks in your grass tileset, which is standoutish and eye-popping, and seeing the monotomy of the pattern, its a possibility that it can be quite repetitive.
