Metal Music

There's gotta be some metal fiends lurking about the community.

It's hard to say where metal began, but most will hypothisize that it began when heavy blues rock group, Earth renamed their band to the "Black Sabbath" we know today. They acknowlegded the fact that people were, "paying to get scared" while seeing a horror movie, so why not create "scary music". With their self-titled song(Black Sabbath, obviously) on their debut album, the "Devil's 5th" interval was utilized in the main riff, recieving mixed reactions. Since then, the band ran with such an idea while refining their sound and unknowingly setting the stage for future bands to forge what is heavy metal music through the coming years.
Another noteworthy fact is that Black Sabbath's guitartist, Tomy Iomi, lost the index and middle fingertips of his left hand at his dayjob. Because of this, he used leather stubs as a substitute for his missing fingers and tuned down his guitar to make it easier to play, considering his situation. This sound of his tuned-down guitar was another contributing factor of Sabbath's darker overtone and allegedly chipped in to the birth of heavy metal.

Namedrop your favorite metal acts of any sub-genre and perhaps, give some links.
And, please, no nu-metal. I know it's arguable to whether it should be considered metal or not, but please just don't.

Let's start with something well-known. Very nice instrumental piece.

Oh yes, Metallica instrumentals. They're all epic, but the best is Orion
i just lurk sometimes
My favorite kind of metal has gotta be desert/doom/stoner metal. Electric Wizard, Church of Misery, Fu Manchu, Queens of the Stone Age. Stuff like that. Is great.
ask me if i give a f*ck...
My favorites are kill-switch engage and trivium.
How about some good ol' German tech-death?
Necrophagist-Culinary Hyperversity

I'm not really much into tech-death, but Necrophagist is fucking ace.
Muhammed Suiçmez is a god. He pretty much IS Necrophagist. The entire debut album is all him on guitar, bass, vox, and drum programming.
Some of his riffs remind me of playing old Castlevania games.

Umm... Hasn't everyone given up on them? They've kinda told us they'll have a new album for the past 10 years.
My favorite is Deftones. Their new songs don't really sound heavy, but I still enjoy listening to them. (btw, can't wait until they release eros!)

I never said otherwise. They're still worth name-dropping, whether they are or not doing a new album.

Well, I guess so. I'd recommend their first album (Onset of Putrefaction) over their second (Epitaph). Even though the first album was a one man act I feel it was better overall.
I perfer that album, too. As much as I do like "Epitaph".

Since black metal was mentioned, I now have to name my top favorites. Can't help it.

Deathspell Omega
Antaeus
Clandestine Blaze
Sargeist
Darkthrone
1349

On the topic of Black, I found a new band (one man act, kinda like Burzum I suppose) called ColdWorld that has an album out, it's really good. That, and if you haven't checked out Sunbather by Deafheaven I'd recommend it. They blended shoegaze with black and the album has a really interesting sound.

Just to ask, anyone listen to Gorgoroth? I like their first two efforts with the vocalist Hat, but none of their later stuff.
I do. I really the first two albums, but I also did like "Under the Sign of Hell" and "Destroyer" alot, too. I actually enjoy everything they've done, even the stuff from "Incipit Satan" to "Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam" with King ov Hell and Gaahl. I just feel as though their contributions to Gorgoroth would have been better off as their own band, instead of additions to Gorgoroth's discography. I know there's God Seed/Ov Hell or whatever the fuck it's called now.
"Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt" was kinda "meh" for me, though. It had a couple good songs.

I remember Coldworld. They're DSBM, right?

...Speaking of Gaahl, by the way, what do you think of Trelldom?

DSBM? Don't think so. More like Ambient than suicidal but there are plenty of themes of loneliness and despair present.

'Bout sums up my view of their later stuff.

I've never heard of Trelldom, so I searched them up... they've got some high-rated stuff on Metallum, but I don't see the clear "stand-out" album that I usually look for when I find a new artist. Care to recommend one of their albums so I can take a listen?

EDIT: In the meantime, here. Possibly the most heavily disputed black album I've ever seen; see what you think. Go ahead and take a listen, it won't take you very long.
I don't know if anyone cares, but Slayer released a new song of their upcoming album.
Implode

I don't think it's bad. Just sounds like good ol' Slayer to me.

Please excuse the bump, but I am going to make a habit of posting at least one song (maybe two) in here each week, if that's okay with the staff.
