How a level will be judged

Level Design -/10
How interesting or unique was the level? Was it original or something we’ve all seen before. If custom sprites were used how well did they fit the level? If Vanilla did the person make good use of original resources?

Graphics -/10
How did the level look? Did it have an ugly palette, has the palette been used a 100 times before? Is there any graphical or color clash?

Difficulty & Funfactor -/10
Is the level actually enjoyable or does it just annoy or stress the player out? Is it super easy to beat or borderline impossible?

Functionality -/10
Does everything work like it’s supposed to? Are there sprite limitations, or does slowdown occur?

Maximum points possible 40

Prize

Besides a little image of a trophy for the top three level designers I will give out a $10 Amazon gift card for the winner of the contest.

--------------------------------------------
Disclaimer
--------------------------------------------
Winner will be paid by two $5 Amazon.com Gift Cards (via 2 codes). Unfortunately I can’t get Amazon.ca or any other type of Amazon gift card. You’re welcome to give your 2 gift card codes to a friend but you will have to send them the codes yourself as I will only send the codes to you (the winner).

After the contest has ended and the winner is declared you must claim your prize simply by responding to a PM by me. I will then send you the two codes and you can do whatever you like with them. You have 30 days after results are announced to claim your prize before I declare you uninterested and you forfeit the cash prize. Unclaimed money will go towards funding next year’s contest.

Judging

I will judge in this contest and would like 1-3 people to help if they can. If anyone is willing to judge for this contest please PM me. Please only contact me if you are seriously interested in judging and keep in mind that judging will not start until near the end of the year (December 23rd). I will ask judges to not judge entries as they are submitted in case the contestant decides to update later on.

That should be it, good luck everyone!

That's just too messy IMO. You could however ask people to put something like "Submission" at the top of the post.

I know what you mean but this contest is pretty small and likely won't have much discussion anyway. Mixing discussion and submissions would be messy if this contest was the size of say the Vanilla LDC.
Well, looks like the deadline is very close and barely now I found out about this. Too bad the deadline can't be extended.

December 22nd, not November. A five day deadline wouldn't really get many entries, now would it? :P

I have already judged last year's contest (and entered that same contest, not judging my own level), and I am willing to take up the position a second time.

Last year's entries were all right. There was only one I didn't like among them and even then, it was tolerable. A few of them were beautiful and/or inspiring. I felt proud to judge these entries (aside from my own), and I'd be honored to take up the position again.

And I also learnt something from my own level that year as well (though I didn't judge it), so in conclusion, judging last year's Strawberry Contest was both an honour and a test of skill.

As X-cniS pointed out the deadline isn’t until December 22nd, so you still have 1 full month to design a level.

Cool I’ll be happy to have you help out with judging this contest again.

Yes I agree I’ve really been impressed by the entries the last 2 years and how pretty much everyone nailed the concept of a short and sweet level.
Why can't we have our roms locked?
To make sure you're not cheating using any crazy ASM loophole magic?

In case people get stuck and need to check how to get through something?

Why would you need it locked?

It’s so I can check that you followed the rules (15 screens or less, only one FG and one BG map 16 page used).

You can choose to post your level locked in this topic and send an unlocked version to me via PM if you don’t want the unlocked version to be publicly available.
This is my submission: Shouldering On.
I just had to find music for this. In fact, last night, I turned it into a winter level, then added music.
Old Man Winter
my entry
el camino del monte
note: yoshi house is unchanged
ESPACIO EN RENTA
Finished in time:

Christmas Sewers
I was going to shut down the submission period today but realized I won't really have time to judge these for a couple more days since Christmas is closing in. So I'm going to go ahead extend the deadline until:

December 26th 11:59 a.m. central time .
(Notice that's before noon this time not midnight)
I could send something in on the 27th...
