K-16 - Story of Steel (a hack that has nothing to do with Mario)

Showing off one of the bonus levels, Void of Illusion 2. This one is an 8-Bit demake of Jerry's castle from Sicari, much like how Void of Illusion 1 is a remake of "Factory Fanatics." I made everything 8-bit except for K-16 (who I can't change :/). The music is even an 8-bit version of "Bloody Tears!"

Anyway, this level is mostly the same except that it uses the K-16 enemies and there is no boss at the end.

Please comment and give feedback ^.^

I've think it was 8-bits only looking at it(be sure to know that 8-bits have this name because the entire game only have 8 colors.. at least that is what someone told me). Great Job!, i'm surprised to see that even your 8-bits graphics looks awesome!!

Everything looks pretty good, Eevee, the only time I've seen pink look this good is on Command and Conquer Kane's Wrath Online mode. There's only one thing I can say I don't like is the fake HDMA in the background, most of the color switching is good and nice, but I was thinking maybe a dark blue would better suit where that red is instead... well, red? This is pretty much an opinion, but maybe try it out and show us a comparison result???

Indeed looks great. Very similar to Jerry's castle in terms of level design. I like the idea.

May be just me, but I don't think the mono-colored crystals look very good. Waiting for more.

I'm pretty sure it's called 8-bit because it uses 8 by 8 graphics or something, I'm positive it's not because of color because Super Mario Bros. and Metroid for example, had way more colors than just 8.

As for the pictures, they're pretty nice, I love 8-bit graphics! Nice job, and continue on what will become a featured hack! #ab{:LOL:}

People call sprites "X-bit" because of era but its really the microprocessors used in our consoles, computers, and handheld devices that sets up the total color depth, not by how many pixels, superbot12.

Also Eevee, I am liking the originality seen in your hacks, mainly in part of the graphics you sprited.
On Pixel Art Requests: I generally do not accept work unless I either have the time, if I see your project worth my time to contribute towards, and that is usually me doing the approaching to you on that.
-I also do not accept speculative work as I do have various art I made on-hand with me.
-I am more receptive to equivalent exchange of resources in which case, you can DM me wherever I have an active presence on for the details.
-Other times I'm availible for your project is C3 request threads I may run.

X-bit refers to the number of colors available in a palette. 8-bit means you can only have a maximum of 8 colors, one for the clear alpha, and the rest for other colors. SMW is 16-bit, which means we have 16 colors to use in total on a palette. Granted SMW has multiple palette ROWS, but each row hosts 16 colors, 1 for the alpha, and the rest for whatever. Look in LM and count how many colors are usable per row, hell, even column. Judging by this, 8-bit means they had eight colors per row and only eight columns to use.

Well I honestly didn't know, but hey, I just learned something. #w{:>}
Well, K's sprite is good enough to be in an 8-bit world. That says good things!!

The level does look trecherous, which is goof too. You keep comining both works well as always. Hat tip for you!!

Actually, no. 8-bit means you can only have a maximum of 4 colors per tile. And no, the latter part also is wrong; you can use a color instead of the transparency, but sadly, you can't have transparency in your graphics now. See; Gimmick! NES for example.
Weheeey I've got some new updates here. First off, I've once again updated the looks on two of the levels.

For Oreo, I have updated the level's foreground, making it look smoother and more natural. I've wanted to change it for a long time. I also updated the background again, giving it a gradient, and more realistic looking clouds. The layer 1 background tiles have been changed to look less like platforms.

For Rainbow Fort, I have added in a layer 1 background to make it look more like... well... a fort, rather than a generic rainbow structure of nothingness. I have had people complain about the saturation here, but trust me, this looks much better in the actual game than a tiny screenshot. I'm using the same colours as in Sicari's Rainbow Palace and everyone was fine with that.

Finally, I'm revealing the fourth boss! Eclipse! After defeating the boss of Andromeda Station, Eclipse challenges K-16, in order to test her worth. Needless to say, Eclipse is impressed after she is defeated. Her boss battle is similar to Raven's, however she throws fireballs towards the player and drops hopping flames. There is also less of a surface for K-16 to stand on, so be careful.

Anyway, please comment and give feedback! ^.^
SMW cloned half of it's bosses. Don't feel bad for doing something similar. Besides, Raven's battle was a good one.

The gradient in the backgrounds looks perfect!! It's even profesional. I take my hat (or beret) at you!!

And the Rainbow Fortress does looks good. Nice you chose the background to be dark so the eyes get a rest.

Hope this is ready soon!!

I know that I'm late, but if you want, you can use 8-bit graphics for the player on Void of Illusion 2 if you want. How, you ask? You can use this, or this.
Eh, I tried them a long time ago and I couldn't work them, but I guess since then, I've gained a lot of experience, so thanks. :>
Hey, presentation counts. And something I've been wanting to redo for a while now is the Overworld. I'm generally surprised nobody ever complained about it. It had no visible paths, the planets were too small and it was generally lazy. Because of that I've completely reworked it. Presenting - the new overworld!

The overworld is now divided into three different submaps, each centred around a star, which makes more sense to the hack's plot, where Scarlet is using the stations to absorb their energy. Along with that, all of the levels have some sort of representation on the overworld - each planet has it's own unique sprite - the space stations are generally close to the stars (at least in the 2nd and 3rd world) - Shooting Stars, Asteroid Base and Asteroid Belt are visualized by - you guessed it! Asteroids! Paths are shown by little star trails, so it is much, much easier to navigate now.

Completely remaking the overworld this late in the hack, as expected, took a lot of time, as I had to move all the levels and such, and then complete them all again just to show you here :p

Anyway, please comment and give feedback!
Wow - very nice. I never noticed it could have been better. It still wasn't that bad as you said, but this looks way, way better than the old one. This looks amazing as I expected it to be. The layer 3 looks eye candy as well. Great job overall.
Pretty neat, looks much better compared with the old one >XP
and its good to see that you accepted the sugestion of the sparkly way :P keep working then~ #smw{:peace:}

OH MY GOD.
This really is much better than the other (not saying the other was bad).
The one i love more is the ship submap you showed on IRC.
Keep this good work on this awesome and original hack Eevee kun.
EDIT: Changed something, because there are a few dumb users who can't think correctly.
