That Best Map theme honestly feels a lot like a credits theme to me, but I'm not sure if it would fit well with Ladida's OW. It definitely sounds great, though.

I'm surprised people think that wouldn't fit - I honestly think it goes well with the graphics of the map perfectly.

@ Lui: That's neat, and I appreciate the 5/4 approach. I'd love to hear it ported.

@Lui: I don't know, it doesn't sound like a map theme to me... I think it's too "dramatic", like, something you'd hear in an intense level (like in a final world?) or something.

@Jimmy: I don't think it fits lolida's map that well, maybe use some traditional japanese instruments? I actually pictured this or this playing on it, as if the place was actually "sacred" and stuff instead of "wow these guys won the contest!" But idk, do whatever you deem fit...

Actually, I initially considered doing a song that was more "sacred", but I ultimately decided against that because I felt the song should be more triumphant, to reflect the fact that these levels are the best ones in the contest. (My idea was for the song to have the same effect as something like this.) I agree with you that a sacred, Japanese-styled approach would have probably fit better with the actual map, but I thought it was more important to get the point across that this was the best map.

(Also, before porting this I actually showed Ladida an earlier version of the song on IRC since he was the one who designed the map, and he said it fit fine.)

i think the song sounds japanesey enough actually (well, imperial). dunno if more japanesey music would fit the overall hack, but it would be fine either way.

lui's sounds good too. adventurey, like going up a mountain, or at the edge of a cliff

Made a few adjustments to the Best Map theme since I realized some parts didn't really flow well (like the intro for example).

It definitely sounds like a fitting 'best' theme, but I think it still sounds a bit too much like a best 'ending' theme. (It somehow reminds me of this) Nevertheless, it's well a written piece.


Hmm, I don't think this sounds like a theme for a map screen. It sounds more like level music to me. I have always thought mountain map themes would be very slow, quiet and relaxing, maybe with an eastern feel to it. (Guzhengs? Sitars and Bansuris?) I'm not entirely sure if something like that would fit if all of the other map themes are 'western' based, but I think that would be the best kind of mountain theme.

I like yours too Jimmy; I feel that intro is kinda unnecessary since it's for an overworld, but it gives a good "best" feeling, so I guess you should keep it.
