So DirecTV decided to drop the Weather Channel from its channel lineup over a fee/contract dispute, apparently. In the meantime, though, the Weather Channel has been making all these commercials making DirecTV look like they're taking away a vital component of alerting people of threatening weather.
I'm a bit divided on this issue, to be honest.
On one hand, the Weather Channel is very good at warning about big weather events, or on severe weather alerts, and I can see that losing that is a big thing for DirecTV subscribers, especially those that don't have computers or phones capable of checking the weather. So, I do think that the Weather Channel should definitely return to DirecTV's lineup.
On the other hand, though, I think the Weather Channel needs to make some changes first.
When it comes to just wanting to find out what the weather's like, or to see if any rain is on the way, it can be a bit frustrating due to all the random shows the Weather Channel wants to air now. Honestly, I feel that the Weather Channel's job is to report the weather and nothing more, not to fill boring time with Prospectors, It Could Happen Tomorrow, or other lame shows when it could be storming somewhere else. (They do cut out the shows when there is a significant enough weather event occurring, but that's it.)
So, I do say that DirecTV shouldn't drop the Weather Channel, but the Weather Channel seriously needs to lose some of their more irrelevant shows. The Weather Channel's focus should be reporting the weather, not to fill time with shows no one watches when we need to find out what the weather's like in a reasonable amount of time (not LOL ONLY EVERY 30 MINUTES BECAUSE SHOWS ARE BETTER).
DirecTV should keep the Weather Channel, but at the same time the Weather Channel needs to focus more on actually reporting the weather.
