anyways, this looks good so far. reminds me of mario & luigi: bowser's inside story; one of my favorite games of all time, but just wondering... how would yoshi eat mario whole?
Just from your screenshot, I can see your level is pretty empty.
Try to put more stuffs into your level (likes coins, sprites, slopes, decorations, etc.)
Alao don't post large image immediately; make a link of image instead. How did your thread shown on my phone.
I really like the idea of this hack, but the levels seem very barebones to me, and don't really offer much in the way of challenges for the player. For example, in the first level you can clear it by simply jumping over everything while the second level is a random barrage of enemies separated by a section of note blocks.
I would recommend having a look into making your levels have a bigger variety of obstacles and enemies (See APPALLED for some great level design pointers), as well as investing time into improving the aesthetics slightly (though not too big a deal!). For graphics, I would recommend perhaps using these graphics as an alternative to the vanilla counterpart, if you know how to insert graphics. If not, there are plenty of tutorials on this site to help you out! :)
MIDI files can't be inserted into a hack. You could use this to convert the song into a format suited to be inserted into a hack, but chances are your MIDI will have to be edited to work. If you don't understand how to port it, there is a good selection of tutorials here.
By the way, what song is it? There could always be a port of it already in the music database.
e: Sorry, I forgot, an important tool needed to convert your MIDI, tinymml, isn't included in the first link. You may have to do a bit of searching to find it.
WAV files don't go into Super Mario World either. You can only insert .txt files into a hack with the usage of AddMusic.
e: Actually, I think you could with the usage of MSU-1. I wouldn't suggest it, though. Your hack will only be playable on bsnes. It might be a bit too complicated anyways.
Well then, how can I convert WAV files to MML files?
WAV to MIDI and then tinymm, but you end up with two garbled channels and it's unworkable. WAV = no go.
Use tinymm with regular MIDIs. Drag and drop a MIDI on tinymm to begin. You also want to use a tutorial like this for porting.
I would definitely consider changing the used blocks in the brain to ground made thin and flexible with Map16, and perhaps tweak some palettes so the levels don't all look the same, such as giving the nose a yellow-greenish background and maybe making the brain background random thoughts that go through Yoshi's head, such as melons, hearts, and other Yoshies, inside clouds. I know that the cloud fringes might get in the way of your other block placements, so maybe redrawing the cloud tileset's surface and walls so it doesn't rely on those tiles would be a good idea.
Most levels seem to have a concept, but I find mouth to be kind of weak. I'd like to donate an idea: using layer 2 smash so the level is more about avoiding being crushed by Yoshi's teeth. You can have Mario hide where Yoshi is missing teeth or having baby teeth grow in.
Just look above you... If it's something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!
Hmm, while I do like the concept of this, I cannot help but point out based on the screenshots you posted to say that making short-ass levels for this concept do not really do it justice. I would suggest that the levels you are making have a greater focus on exploration rather than linearity here.
