I've combed through most of the ZIPs so far, and I didn't realize this many people would utilize .brrs. It's actually to the point where I don't even think they'll all fit because we have so many. I suppose this is my fault for not planning for this, but I need to request that those who used a .brr track in their level change it something that doesn't use samples. Alternatively, you can use one of the remixes from the signup thread if you'd like.

Please PM me with your level number + a link to your newly chosen track. There's simply no way I will be able to get all of these sampled tracks in as it stands.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
So Crispy told me a .bnk is a bunch of .brrs

I...really don't want to change mine. Only one of my songs uses a bnk, and I chose the song because it completely works with the level. Is there any possible way to make exceptions? I really believe replacing the song now will completely detract from my original intention for the level.

EDIT: I mean, if we have enough people who'd be willing to replace their songs, their shouldn't be a problem right?

Well, I meant .bnks too. I should have said that I needed a replacement for any song that uses samples.

I mean, I'll see what I can do, but there is no way I'll be able to fit all of these samples in if there are 82 levels + a bunch of ExGFX files. I'm hoping there will be enough people willing to swap out their sampled song for an unsampled one.
That's unfortunate. I didn't know that many other entries used sampled songs, but I guess those do take up space.

At first I used two tracks with two bnk...
But I changed into a single custom music without custom sample bank.
So yeah

Meh, custom samples aren't necessary. You can make great music without custom ones.

I'd recommend just going with the flow for now. If we make one exception, lots of others will want exceptions too (I say this because I used samples too). My best advice is to go search for an unsampled track that also accompanies your level well, plus it'd be unfair to many other users who used samples and wished to do so, but couldn't. Exceptions seem pretty unfair in these kind of things, but it is ultimately up to SNN.

Is it a viable solution to have porters turn those sampled ports into unsampled ports unless they absolutely need to be sampled?
I'm really trying to assess the amount of room we'll have in the collab ROM and I'll try to fit as many sampled ports as I can in - however, those who volunteer to use an unsampled one instead will make things a million times easier. I can definitely fit a few sampled ports in, but not all, hence why I made this thread.

I should have made more distinct rules for music submissions - again, I apologize. It'll definitely be something to keep in mind if the next VLDC is a collab as well.
an idea. Basically, give around five bonus points to those who switched to unsampled from sampled as a bonus. This bonus will not exactly say 10"5" but it should rather mark those who were willing to do something they would rather not have done, and those who wish to complicate the simple matter because a sampled port must ABSOLUTELY have to be used or nothing will be right will get to keep their music IF the rom can accept it. In the end, if it can't, I'd suggest for YOU (SNN) to just switch it to a remix.

Sorry if that may upset some people, but ROM room is ROM room... And I believe the five extra point mark would be nice. It'd be like, lets say, the level scores around 74 points, and they switched music, then the score would be 74 (5) for attempting to make things much simpler. Just my two cent idea though, but I feel it would also encourage some others who used samples to atleast attempt to switch instead of asking for some exception like some are now.

I agree, as long people who don't have to switch also will get five bonus points for free. I don't want to switch to sampled track, and then to unsampled five minutes later to get points. Of course, this is S.N.N.'s choice, but I don't think it would be fair to give five extra points just for levels that were problematic - it's not that everybody used sampled music.

(and yes, I considered "Terra Diver - Ota City Sky" as my level music, but I switched before submitting, because it wasn't feeling vanilla)

Legacy ports zip (now that those went down because Dropbox)
I'm not giving bonus points to people who switch. I'm hoping some people will just do it as a courtesy to the final product. Music was a privilege to begin with and not something that will ultimately be judged - it's simply to make the project a bit more interesting as people are playing through it.
GET READY TO RUMBUUUUUULE
I believe this is a bad idea. You shouldn't punish people just because the music they picked happened to use .brrs, especially since they couldn't have possibly known. This also penalizes people who didn't use .brrs at all. Although I get the idea that people who don't want to switch are making things harder, this solution isn't fair at all to anybody.

I think everyone who's concerned should receive a PM asking them to switch for another song (if that isn't already done), and simply picking something else for them if they do not comply/answer in a given amount of time. I wouldn't go as far as ruling people out of the contest, but giving extra points seems unfair to me.
I agree, giving extra points fucks over people who didn't even want to put sampled tracks in the first place.

I still think being strict is the only solution here, and that not putting any sampled track will be the solution with the least uproars.
One idea may be for the final product to just force all levels onto the VLDC soundtrack no matter if the levels originally used sampled/unsampled ports. Unfortunately, iirc, the soundtrack idea was developed after the contest started. Maybe in the future, a soundtrack can be set aside from the start and contestants have to pick from those songs.
Here's the solution to the music problem:

-------Those who chose not to switch over from a sampled to unsampled port -> Said port will be removed, and somebody else will find a port that they believe fits the stage. There should be no exceptions, and that should be the final decision.

Either that, or the sampled port is replaced with one of the remixes. It's going to have to be one of those.

TL;DR:
If you chose a sampled port, but refuse to change, this is what should happen:
• Sampled Port is replaced by another port chosen by another user
• Sampled Port is replaced with a remix
• Sampled Port is replaced with vanilla music <-- God forbid.

---

That's the way it's got to be. If an exception is made for some users, it's going to be incredibly unfair and upsetting to the others that wanted to use sampled ports as well. I say this because I too wanted to use a sampled, but willingly switched out for an unsampled.

Come on people, it isn't that hard to find something that sounds nice. There are lots of unsampled ports out there that are beautiful. I know I sound like a complete douche bag right now, but as the way things are, policies are going to have to be enforced, rudely if necessary.

Precisely. Music has no factor at all in anyone's score, so awarding bonus points or penalizing people for not switch their tracks is simply not going to work and would be all kinds of unfair.

There is actually a small chance that the ROM may be able to accommodate everyone. I just finished inserting ROM 1's levels and there is still a ton of room left. It'll really depend on how many individuals from ROM 2 used samples though...
Just out of curiosity, unless I missed something, how would I (or others) know which ROM our levels would go into?
If you didn't get it, the whole purpose of this thread is to ask people to use unsampled tracks for their levels so that everything will go to only one ROM as there weren't many entries submitted as expected. Therefore it'd go for only one ROM. We'd have to edit a bit the resources usage of the levels that were going to the ROM 2, would take time but worth of keeping all the levels in one ROM... sadly I don't think that's going to happen.

The usage of custom music in levels was only a privilege, it won't make your level better or so.

Before it was decided that they would be combined into a single ROM, it was based on when you claimed your level. First claimer got level 1, second got level 2, and so on until the level list filled up. You claimed level 106 before the first ROM was filled up, so your level was going to be in that first ROM.
