Tip: Avoid "item babysitting". Do not force the player to drag P-Switches or springboards all around the level. This is not fun, nor does it make for interesting "puzzles".

'The Girl and the Scarf' is a project started by me sometime in March. I have been using most of my time planning and coming up with some ideas on how this game will work, what features it will have and what kind of story it will hold. I have a slight grasp on what I would like to do, but it's not all there yet. Right now I'm trying to complete the engine and start working on the story-line in the game.

Story:
Quote

Two worlds coexist with one another, only separated by a bridge which connects them. One world contains Magic, the other contains Machine. There are those who are summoned to cross this bridge, to take "Soul Orbs" from the other world and return them to yours. You are among those. You are from the world of Magic. You are the Girl with the Scarf. (This is WIP)

Out of curiosity, how did you build the engine for the game? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the icon in the top left of the screenshot. In regards to the game, I presume you have some kind of unique mechanic in mind for the scarf based on the name and that little bit of concept art where it's obvious that Bufanda has some bad breath problems. I'd love to offer you some meaningful feedback, but your engine and concept is still pretty early so it's hard to gauge what you're going for. For what it's worth the whole thing looks good so far. I also think it's pretty cool when people do all the art assets themselves. Of course, there's a lot of 2D platformers these days so I'm interested to see how you and this scarf make it stand out.

Good luck and be sure to keep us in the loop!

The base engine is GM : Studio. Yes, the scarf will be used plenty in this game, and no...she doesn't have bad breath. XD

What was happening in the concept image was that the scarf was freaking out and pulling at her, and she was trying to stop it.

Have fun, and point out any other bugs please!

--------------------
I played it, and I still think it's a bit early for people to be giving super helpful feedback. Nevertheless, I'll tell you how I feel based on what's here.

The gravity for the jumping feels good and natural, though I notice the platforming itself could have a bit more momentum to it. What I mean by that is how in a Mario and Sonic game you don't stop on a dime; you take a while to come to a complete standstill. Including something like might make it a lot more comfortable from a mechanical perspective(Though it's totally based on what you're going for, it's not needed.). It's cool (hue, snow pun) to see you're building environmental details and overall the aesthetic is good at this point. One bug I did find was if you fall down a pit, you don't die and instead just kind of wander around below the level.

Hope this helps!
I lost a bit of work when I had to reformat my computer, but it wasn't too much lost. I've caught up mostly, and I'm really focusing on the engine right now instead of...well everything else.

Here is a quick preview of a skill that will be used in the game.

and here is a quick release of what I have so far. You can do the parachute jump by pressing up twice. A lot has to be worked on, and the animations and physics have to be fixed. Until then, enjoy!
