RIP Nintendo Internet

I'd like to point out as well that the Wii and the DS were some of Nintendo's most successful consoles. Calling the Wii the start of their decay is not a great idea. If anything, I would say that their loss last year was just a bump on the road. Look at the 3DS. It was not doing great for a while and now it's making Nintendo a lot of money. The Wii U on the other hand may not do great but it'll probably still make money like the Gamecube did in the end.

Nintendo won't be screwed until they make several Virtual Boys in a role, and I don't think that's possible.

When the Wii came out, it was near impossible to find in the UK!

Just want to point out quickly that Nintendo have banked enough to be able to run a $250 million deficit every year and still stay afloat till 2052. The company is by no means decaying.

Also just because you're not within their primary market spectrum anymore, this does not mean they aren't shifting enough units to make a profit.

First, I meant decay as in quality-wise. I don't think Nintendo's going anywhere. Their previous successes have definitely given them enough cash to continue on for decades, and their in-house games far outclass the other console makers.

However, the Wii wasn't all sunshine and sparkles. Global sales dropped from 17 million to 5 million per year post-2010 (though it still outsold the U for a while). That said, both the DS and the 3DS have done very well.

Ultimately though, I'd guess the reason Nintendo is shutting down servers has nothing to do with cash and a lot to do with overall crappy online. I still have not met anyone who used online on a regular basis.

Not to mention the only two really big online games (Mario Kart and Smash Bros.) are getting Wii U iterations.
That's a shame :( I used to play Mario Kart Wii online everyday when I was little. Those were some good times...
3 days left. If you want in on the homebrew servers, then you should probably go ahead and reserve your friend code.
2 hours 52 minutes remain. Oh well. Guess I won't be playing Mario Kart Wii anymore. R.I.P.
I'm getting rid of my Pokemon Diamond, SoulSilver, and White 2. I only used it for online purposes and I know I won't replay them.
I went on the Wii shop channel and brought the last virtual console thing I wanted/needed last week, so yeah. Still sad to see it going down, though.

(For those wondering, it's Mario Party 2, and we've already shared some crazy times with it.)

I'm probably retired tbh
The servers are now officially closed. However, the Wii Shop Channel will not close.

As far as I know the Wii shop channel isn't affected by the server shutdowns.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
Meh, I don't really care. But now, if I want to play MKW online again, I can just use MrBean35000vr's method of playing the game online. I do admit it's a huge shame that I can't see my leaderboard stuff on Sonic Colors. I spent a long time trying to have the highest score in my state :/
I never really used Wi-Fi that much (well, I did a long time ago, but that was, for the most part, the Wii, and I couldn't use Wi-Fi on my DS due to not having a compatible router), though I'm still quite sad to see it go. No more getting/uploading levels on Mario Vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem...

Of course, just when I start getting back into Brawl...
Your layout has been sold to the government because it uses stuff it shouldn't use, like marquee tags.
