This episode had both some really badass, cheer-worthy moments (with Rohan) and some of the creepiest moments in the entire show with Kira. My god, he seems to have somehow gotten even more
maniacal and sadistic since
taking on Kosaku's identity
(probably because he hasn't had any opportunity to kill and 'let off stress' since then). His vacant, almost fish-like dark eyes, incredibly calm voice and complete and utter lack of empathy make him by far the most terrifying villain to come out of Jojo
Everything about his 'family bonding' with Hayato was one of the most messed up things I've ever seen in anime.
Speaking of Hayato, gotta' feel sorry for the poor kid in his situation. While amazingly clever and resourceful for his age, he still has no real way to deal with or even fully comprehend the
incredibly powerful supernatural maniac that's taken the place of his dad
. His frantic ponderings over who he could probably turn the information over to come off as just about what any normal person would do thrown into that kind of crazy situation. In a series as thoroughly campy and over-the-top as Jojo
, this is a surprisingly relatable brand of horror.
It's especially tragic since he walked right by
Jotaro Kujo, one of the only people alive who he could've safely shown the information to.
While the episode was overall very good, I did find it a bit of a stretch for Koichi to be so initially skeptical of Rohan's story. He knows about the existence of Stands and that they can have wild and crazy powers, so how is 'a Stand that can latch on to somebody's back' any more unbelievable then 'a Stand that can fold people up into napkins'? And the possibility that he was distrustful of Rohan due to how the mangaka attacked him initially doesn't really seem to hold water since Koichi had no problems hanging out with Rohan prior to that one moment.
It wasn't as bad as it could've been since Koichi did
end up helping out at the end anyway, but it still seems a contrived way to draw out the drama of the episode.
