What happened to the SMRPG subforum?!

As MercuryPenny said, it's been archived after trying to contact you and other relevant people (through the discord, as that was the only place we knew existed).
SMRPG isn't really active enough to warrant a whole forum here, even F-Zero hacking was more active on this site with that single thread that popped up a while ago.

That being said, we'd still like to try and promote the SMRPG scene if we can, though. If you want to plan a contest or there's a major hack release or something, front-page announcements and all can be arranged if you contact us!

Due to the inactivity it has been archieved while for now the SMRPG discord being the more active spot.
How does this game handle large sprites like Bowser? I'm looking at his sprites in Lazy Shell and they appear to get all split up and tiled. If I wanted to replace Geno's sprites with some more the size of Bowser's, how would I do that? Like I said before, I'm working on some sprites to replace Geno with Samus, but if I can make the sprites larger res than Geno's sprites, that would be great. Maybe a good place to start would be to simply replace Geno's sprites with Bowsers? If I wanted to do that, what would the process look like in Lazy Shell?
So I'm sort of figuring out the way sprites are handled. Is adding sprites possible as opposed to just sprite replacement? If I did something like add sprites to their own spots, how would I tell the game to call on those sprites as opposed to the character I'm seeking to replace? I've seen rom hacks with custom boss fights and what not-- I'm assuming that process is relatively similar to that of a player character? Not trying to add a character though-- I understand that the 5 characters limit is fairly set in stone. Just trying to swap out Geno (visually) for some custom sprites which are closer to Bowser's sprites in terms of sprite height and width.

Sorry if that's wordy. The tl;dr is that I have custom sprites for a Samus mod, I'm trying to replace Geno with Samus, but her sprites are much larger than his are and I don't know how that works and if that causes problems or what.
Hi.

I am doing a text-only hack of Super Mario RPG. The premise is a fun retelling of the game's story where Mario (who is silent in the original game) actually has full-on text dialogue like the other characters - his personality being a mix of his portrayal in the old cartoons and how Martinet portrays him at trade shows.

So I've been exporting and saving my dialogue as text document backups like I'm supposed to, but the problem is, whenever I actually save my changes to the rom, the text gets corrupted. Lines of dialogue will merge together or get partially deleted. It consistently happens every time I save the rom, even though I've been careful not to go over the character limit - and in fact meticulously reworded various existing text to be shorter so that I'd have a higher character limit to work with. Nonetheless, consistently, each time I save the rom sections of the text get messed up in this fashion.

Is there anyone familiar with SMRPG hacking who'd be willing to walk me through whatever I'm doing wrong? I know this is a lot to ask, but I'd really like to figure this out so that I can actually complete my project.
