If it's the music which causes the hack to break, then AMK can remove AM405 code without a hitch and replace it with new music. Vitor Vilela can help with missing songs, although I think samples that are lost would have to be extracted and reworked into the songs, and there are tools for that. Still entirely doable. Now, if it's ASM-related stuff, that'd require some debugging and then a rewrite of the broken code. Third parties are welcome to try, so long as the intended effect of the music or code is not altered.

Nothing's really unfixable with effort.

This still happens? I thought his recent submission fixed this by switching to AddMusicK. FPI is still around occasionally so if it is still broken, PM him directly.

Hm... So this is where people are discussing fixing music in hacks?
....
I'm curious, why isn't there some sort of patch to convert more easily?

I can only imagine that it has already been tried and thought through.

Please pardon the eye.
The most recent addmusics already do the really easy fixes, if possible. Nothing's been made more sophisticated than that yet, though, and probably won't be.
I have been independently listing problem hacks for a while, and find the following worthy of fixme status (apologies if any were already listed): 5055, 5131, 5166, 5356, 5409, 9828 (first castle), 10152, 10185, 10225, 10252.

5151 has a fixme tag, but no mod notice, probably because it is not addmusic related.

Eh, I just find myself rather curious as to what making this so simple as a basic patch would take.

Well, one problem is that the songs themselves are busted; they have echo values that will destroy the sound RAM. You'd need to extract and fix them. Anything that extracts songs from hacks will be looked upon with mighty suspicion here, due to silly attitudes.
Honestly, I think the easiest thing to do would be to remove the lock on the SPC to TXT converter that makes it not work with Addmusic tracks. If people try and steal songs they can just be called out for it and have their hacks rejected, same as any other content that can be stolen. It's honestly kind of funny how much of a backlash there is against the possibility of stealing music when Recover Lunar Magic was totally accepted, despite the fact it can be used to easily steal graphics from locked hacks unless they use other locking methods.
I think it works on old addmusic songs. The problem isn't so much that the conversion with vitor's program can't be done, but that the size of the output is gigantic and near impossible to optimize because of the format.

I think a patch that completely removes echo from songs wouldn't be out of question though.

--------------------
Ah. I was thinking, because the songs are there either way, and the problem, from what I gathered, was a broken addmusic, an ips patch might do nicely.
...
But, if it were as simple as that, others would've jumped at this a long while back.
....
Hmm... Worth experimenting over?

I dunno jack squat about where to really begin, this is just me pulling an idea out for others.

Regarding Vitor's tool, would it be too much of a stretch to make a tool that works with Vivi's that converts all these f=12 (and similar) notes into their whole note format? Then looping would be a lot simpler.

...I know little about these things, but, I doubt an experiment would be out of the question?

I dunno any policies or anything about any of this.

The author of two hacks, Pac, allowed me on my request per e-mail to ask here.

His both hacks are - as to my testing - compatible with certain hardware-inaccurate emulators such as SNES9X and ZSNES (tested by me on ZSNESW 1.51), but not with real hardware or the higan emulator (tested by me on the latest stable revision 0.95), most likely (as I think) because of the sound implementation.

When starting the game, the entrance level is loaded (before the overworld) and then crashes.

So I would like to ask here if anyone would be willing to have a look. I tested with both the versions found on another website and here.

His hacks are on his profile at "Temporary Hacks":

yes, the updated TSRPR that FPI submitted in late November 2014 IS still broken in some levels while playing it in snes9x v1.52 or higher and in bsnes/higan.

just let FPI fix the custom music problem himself and not let anyone else fix it for him without his permission.

I read somewhere in the SMWC forum that he didn't quite use the proper version of AddMusic to update the custom music for TSRPR.
Protoblob, I'm afraid I can't answer your question.
I'm still very much a newb here in general.

I'd be at that point of asking "Oh, what do I do first?"

Anyways though, what would it take to make a patch to fix the addmusic stuff?

I was thinking in simplistic terms, but surely, there would be a way to patch the hack directly to convert the audio?

With permission from Atari2.0, I am bumping this thread. Feel free as well to ask questions and continue to share information with each other about which resources are used hacks you are trying to repair. It is open to everyone who wishes to give it a go.
