Minor things i complain about:

1st:


The clouds on the ground look quite monotonous in this part. Just like you created one vertical row and then copy-pasted it for the screen´s entire lenght. I don´t know if you can change their variety so e.g. that they may vary in height. Another thing you could do is, that you maybe want to add some foreground decoration around this pit part, so that the clouds don´t stand you that drastically.

2nd:
Also this part where you go right, then left and right is a bit tedious (just minimal but still). By forcing the player to go to the right, then go the entire length back to the left and then to the right again you remind me of the good ol´ item babysitting puzzles from 2009. Still this shouldn´t be a serious level-design idea nowadays.

I´d suggest to shorten the way back (by about a half to one entire screen). This way you can still bring some variety to your level by forcing the player to go left, but this doesn´t evoke that a strong "2009-design-flashback"-feeling (if you understand what i mean) since you just partially have to go back the entire way.


Apart from these 2 thing the level is pretty cool. Not going to mention the boss fight. Still i question why you defeat a bloodthirsty psychopath by jumping on her head?

Woah woah, nostalgic attack right here. I must retry this hack in a bit.
Due to the slow production of the hack because of some irl and other things, I was going to release a new trailer for the hack this C3.

Although I promised not to make another demo, things are going a bit slower than I anticipated, and I've been considering making another one just to help pass the time for anyone who cares. Since it's been over a year since the last demo, please vote here and tell me if you'd like to see a new one or not (granted the hack has come a long way since then!)

Demo would probably be 2-3 worlds, still don't want to make the entire thing playable of course lol

Im rather impressed on how far you have come in your skill (actually, it's talent) in pixel art. The screenshots shown recently conveys your dedication to making your hack visually polished. I do hope the level design is as interesting in design concepts as you make the visuals.

I do have to ask on a third option, being that if you have considered doing a level sampler for C3, which you release a sample amount of levels of your choosing for people to play? I ask because I must wonder if releasing the C3 demo that have would be in your interst in not to spoil people too much on the game (including plot) if you were to release the game in amount of worlds you have considered presently.

Today I'm officially revealing the Stone Palace (though I teased it on Discord)

In the original Sicari this was a maze level done entirely in the dark, but I wanted people to enjoy it a bit more so it's another of those levels that was built from scratch. It has been done for a while now, but I wasn't satisfied with its graphics, and only decided to update them again yesterday.

For comparison, here it was in the original:

I've reshaded the second tileset and changed all the palettes to make this level look darker and more intimidating, and I hope it shows. Quite happy with this one and the atmosphere I could create, but what do you think?

Two other things:

1: Those attentive people may have noticed the timer is gone. I had upped the times, but after they were still discouraging people to take their time I've finally decided to remove it entirely. You're welcome ;)

2: I was thinking of renaming the hack. This was a passing thought, and I don't really have better name ideas, but do you think I should or are you fine with "Sicari Remastered"

The difference between the old and new is astounding, really. I love the lighting effect you've added to everything in the newest version, especially in the background.

As for the name, I think Sicari Remastered is a good name still.
The Stone Palace is ways more atmospheric now. Also compared to the very original Sicari removing the surrounding absolute black is a huge improvement in design, too.

I also like the brown-hues and the slight differences between the bricks. Also a level that´s lit from the background is a unique idea as well ;3

Removing the time is also a good step i think. I never was under pressure so implementing a time limit was unnecessary per se. Also now i really take my own sweet time to explore every lovely design pixel of your hack :3

Sicari Remastered isn´t anything bad as a name and per se I´d keep it. but i admit there´s room to improve the name too so if you can finally come up with something interesting and mysteriously and epic sounding replacing it would be fine as well. Tbh, I have no idea of such a name, but i´d say renaming the hack has more than enough time, since you surely won´t finish your project within the next few days :p

I did not ask at the time but do you plan to use the original concept in how the light surrounds the player somewhere in the level?

Maybe in a dark sub-level? Either way keep up the good work. :D
Sicari Remastered still sounds good as a name. If you change it into something else, it wouldn't admit this is a revamp of Sicari this much. Either way, the difference between the old and the new version is really huge and I appreciate it ;)

Okay but seriously, it's maddening how much of a step- no, super jump the Stone Palace had evolved. I'm also glad there's no spotlight anymore (man, I hated that level + Mystic Palace because of that). Infact, this entire remastery of Sicari is seriously making the original look inferior in comparison.

To answer your questions:
1) No timers.
2) Keep Sicari Remastared; user23507's reasons are the same as mine.

Won't play any of the demos past the first level until you complete the game, so I'm actually kind of hyped. Can't wait until it's all done!

Minor update here, not showing off any levels or anything, just a new mechanic.

One of the most common criticisms I've heard since Story of Steel is that the fire flower, or in this case the weird cylinder electric thingie is useless for K-16, who can shoot projectiles anyway. In Sicari R, I didn't expect to hear these complaints, seeing as Sicari is of course playable and can make use of it, but people have still mentioned it, so I decided to implement a little something.

As a result, K-16 if powered up can fire charged shots that will pass through walls and multiple enemies.

I'm using a modified version of the charged fireball patch, whereas only K-16 can use it. It wouldn't make sense for Sicari to be able to shoot a big laser lol. Fire flower is still of course useful for her though in that it allows her to use projectiles.

I really like the older player GFX still because of how big the hair was.

But yeah its great to see the improvements but overall how much progress you are making with hacking and the remaster.

Its interesting to see all the changes which are clearly for the best as the hack seems to have a lot of emphasis now on the polished up level design and overall improved visual aesthetic.

Great work as always. Would love to see more comparison videos later down the line if thats alright.
The second version of Castle Lab looks slightly better than previously. The graphics are more interesting than before and the music sounds more like Mega Man 7! Keep up revamping one of the best looking hacks!
