Game Project - Cosmu

Hey, look. It's cosmu!
And this is a link for a level!

Last hours before C3 ends and a wild thread appear. Sorry if it's too late to show something, but we were working on it today! yes, everything in this video was done today.

Some of you may know about the SMWHack Cosmu from 1Updudes (If you don't, click Here), and it's what this game is about! 1Updudes and myself are working on the game Cosmu based on his hack.

Dudes is going to be working on the entire game concept and giving me the levels, so I can design them on the engine. We are going to be working together on the graphics as well! We are still working on a graphical style for the game, expect some changes.

Thank you for visiting this thread, leave your thoughts and suggestions, it would help us shape the project even more with your ideas. I hope you guys had a nice C3.

1UpDudes supposed to post this thread since he's leading the project, but he left me alone on facebook. Probably he fell asleep or just said "Damn it, i'll not wait for Ludus, i'm going to sleep" :<
I think this looks amazing so far. One thing that I found a bit odd or at least unusual, is how close the camera is to the character, so the view on the level is very limited like on the small screen of some old gameboy-games. Definitely quite different than on SMW. I'm not saying it's bad but if you're starting to fill the levels with enemies and obstacles you have to put that small view in mind of course.

In any case, good luck on the project. Looking forward to seeing how this is progressing!

Would like to say good work on organising the thread!

I totally didn't fall asleep or anything and didn't post it >.>

So yeah this is Cosmu, it'll be a game me and Ludus are working on :')
We hope you stay tuned for more on it sooner or later!
Okie dokie, this is important, so I'm hoping you can fix it early before you develop too much:

Not enough of the level around the player character is shown. You'll be very constricted in your design if you don't fix this.

Few ways to fix it include: Zooming out (if your engine allows it), or shrinking everything, or slowing movement and reducing jump height (not recommended).

As it stands you risk having too much important information hidden offscreen, and that'll result in blind jumps/enemies popping out of nowhere/things hidden above or below you/etc.

Less important: You'll notice in Super Mario World that Mario isn't always in the center of the screen. There's a bounding box where Mario can hop around without making the camera scroll. Games like Terraria and the video you showed give me motion sickness because the camera moves every time the player does. Even discounting my personal quirk, it's still bad to keep the player constantly centered as it just looks bleh.
The camera problem is something already know, so don`t worry about it for now. The game is still early development, and lot`s of things are going to be changed eventually. That said, There will be needed to code the camera behavior, something we did not had the need for this level, as it don`t have a lot platforming or enemies at all, so a camera coding is later stuff.

Really thanks for the interest you guys.

As always, you art style looks great! I have to agree with the others about the camera but it seems you know about it already so I will speak no more on that issue. I am looking forward to seeing more. The video seemed to show quite a good impression which can also create some intrigue in people.

Good luck!

Ah, excellent then.
Glad to see some interest in this project. It's all early days so yeah there might be big changes later on in development! ^.^

Anyway I thought I may as well show some concept art I drew awhile back. These screens show some possible features that will implemented like power-ups and enemies, not to mention level themes.

Sorry if these images are too big I did re-size em...
