Layout Don'ts

In your post layout, don't:
  • Use any other horizontal alignment than left for the actual post text.
  • Use fixed backgrounds. They lag, stop it.</ul>
More will be added as necessary.
Ignoring these will result in your layout being nuked and possibly you being temp-banned.

    Have a nice day.

Unexpected end tag (</ul>) at 155, expected </li>

Glad to know this, Boom. I use center sometimes.. but now i know not to.

Why, though?
<TLMB> I use YY-CHR to edit DNA
Does this apply to all the post text?
Say if I wanted to center just one sentence, is that OK?
Does that mean that I have to remove this layout? :(
I really like it and centering in the middle seems to be better organized.
Please let me know if I have to remove this one before I get banned. <.<
@dots: then it would not be a part of your layout
@buu: well, in this case it doesn't seem so bad, but usually, it's annoying
Added a rule against fixed backgrounds. You have been warned. Next one I see gets nuked.
It;s centered TEXT, not a center image. You're safe.

Also, I center images so everything looks nice, instead of looking like shit. (yeah, I'm an asshole like that.) Guess I can't do that anymore.

Is centered text saying "___ SAYS:" still allowed as long as the main post text is not centeted?
Your layout has been removed.
I just disabled layout from the forum. It was turned on by default when I registered, and it looked messy as hell. Like ten thousand forums in one (no, really).

I hope this rule will be enforced, because the idea of a forum is to have a discussion, not show off your posts as the nicest/coolest/most special etc.

The point of a layout is to give your posts a unique touch. However, there are some that get one of those 137-cell layouts and reserve only one for the post, and there's a bunch of other text in there as well. Layouts shouldn't communicate what a post can.

What I think, is that custom layouts are not needed on a forum at all. Sure, people could be able to make a layout and make all posts show up like that. Like wanting a blue background on posts, all posts could get that. Having everyone force a custom layout on others is just confusing and interrupts the discussion.

E.g.
One post is red and right aligned, the next is black with white text beneath a picture of a guy I don't know, the third is bright green and hurts my eyes enough for me to skip it, and so on.

I am for well used bold, italic, underlining, urls and so on though, just not the whole colour and alignment thing.

However, I know others feel the opposite of me, and as long as I can have all disabled I don't care.

Well... I see your point. Some layouts are instafail, and should be KOS. Others, on the other hand are pleasing to the eyes, or with a decent degree of contrast.

Now, I am asking everybody, how would you feel if HTML code in layouts were disabled FOREVER just because some stupid-ass decided to fuck it all up for the rest of us?

As I thought.

Also, I had a thread in WoI (moved to Talk) that dealt with this very topic. On Boom's decree shall I show it to him.

Layouts are another (very fun and interesting) way of expressing yourself, as I have done with mine. It's simple, but it conveys my big interest. (Those of you who don't know what that is already, shame on you.)

It's important to have tasteful layouts, instead of looking like an early '90s amateur website. If it's that bothersome that you're seeing so many layouts you can't stand, while they adhere to current rules, the only solution is to turn your option for layout viewing off. However, as of posting this, I can't say anyone's layout bothers me very much.
I'm part of the Testers for Hire thread, so if you'd like something play tested, no matter what it is, PM me, and I'll give you honest feedback. Anything else is in my profile.

I think there should also be a rule that layout's shouldn't "freeze the page" when they load. I've come across a few users that do this, and it's very annoying to have to wait ten seconds whenever you enter a thread they were in.
Also, My text isn't left-aligned - it's justified. Might want to add that that's allowed.

Another rule should be don;t have distracting images in the header or footer, seriously.
Just back here to browse a bit.

Yours often does that.

Yeah, I noticed that too. It's probably because he uses a lot of images in his layout.

I never noticed mine doing it, how long does it usually take? If it's more than 3 seconds or so on average, I'll have to get around to fixing it.
I've seen several others, like kokojo's (about 8-10 seconds average, and it's not even a complicated layout). I believe it has something to do with the tables...

It's random. This time, it had almost no loading time. Other times, however, it took almost 10 seconds to load. :/

It is the case with other layouts also, with divs I think.
