Yep, I'm aware that I'm probably the fastest worker here (in terms of level design anyways). I've got about three weeks until school starts, so that gives me time to revamp at least one more level.

This level is an absolute mess design-wise. It pretty much sums up all of the item babysitting issues in this hack. Unfortunately, because of that, this level is going to need a full redesign. Here's my plan for fixing the level...

1. I want to keep the same aesthetics. They suit the level just fine.

2. I was thinking of turning this into a mountainous athletic level. We don't really have one, so I thought this would be the perfect place to make a level with that theme.

3. I still think I want to use P-switches in the design, but if I do, they won't be for the purposes of item babysitting. I'd use them like this. Not enough people make levels based around the P-switch like this, and I believe it would fit the level perfectly.

Anyways, how does this plan sound? If it sounds good, I'll get started on this level.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Since this is only world 2, however, try not to punish the player too harshly for failure to complete a p-switch run. Consider placing rewards for players that make it through p-switch runs especially quickly, and think about adding frequent reset pipes so the player can try again at required p-switch runs instead of falling to their deaths.

Y'know, it's only because you keep revamping the short, early levels and other people are doing other things in addition to level design. :b

Yep, I was planning on having successful runs lead to bonus areas for the most part. Any successful run that's required to progress will be, for the most part, short and fairly simple.

Actually, it's funny that you mentioned that, because I realized that I've only done stuff from the first half of the game. In terms of revamping level design though, I have been moving pretty quickly.

Looks like an interesting idea. I have a few concerns though, mostly in:

a) how players are going to get power ups in that level (I assume there's going to be a few sections where you won't be going from switch to switch)
b) how the music you're going to use will actually fit (having it replaced with the P-Switch music all the time would suck)
and
c) how repetitive the level would be (like, such as having to repeat sections if you screw up with the P-Switch stuff).

Still, you've done good levels before, so good luck.

You know, if SNN really wants to take my suggestion, what about having the P-switch create ticking noises rather then an actual song replacing the music? I'm not sure if there was any discussion about the P-switch music, so thought I'd say something about it.

I'm slightly concerned the idea will be too similar to Switch Scamper from SMWCP2. I know it's not exactly the same but the gimmick reminds me of that.

Otherwise it looks like a decent idea so far. The level won't turn out that difficult if the switches are introduced fairly, and not above lava or bottomless pits. I say you should start with that idea if you feel you can work with it.
They'll hardly be similar, even if akaces remade the level using the exact same custom blocks that appear in SMWCP2. I imagine he'll be using actual vanilla p-switches for this.
I've got a few screens of level design ready to show everyone. Ignore the lack of decoration in the level as well as the ugly pipe palettes, those will be fixed later.

Mario has already defeated a few koopas and Monty Moles to reach this P-switch. I wonder what would happen if he pressed it?

A path across this hole opens up!

Mario also has to navigate quite a bit of mountain terrain between P-switch runs.

Here's the second P-switch run, and the first one over a gap.

Luckily, it's fairly short. I wonder what's down that pipe below the blocks, though...

Everything looks in order so far. I don't see any glitch potential or things to pick at, but I'll reserve judgment until I get to play it myself.

I do have a question, though: where'd the reset icon on the pipe in the first screenshot come from? Was that always in the graphics or did you add it?
That graphic was always in the ROM (it's in MAP16 page 8). I believe the original author used the graphic in the level, although I don't remember where. I'll dive into the ROM and check later.

Looks pretty swell so far. Thank you for splitting up the p-switch runs and making the level sort of a combination of normal sections and p-switch ones.

I will admit, I think that pipe you've shown is a bit too obvious. I'm not sure what you can do with it besides maybe making it only two block heights tall, but it'd be cool if you found some way to make it harder to reach.

Progress on this level will be slow for about a week. I just got my wisdom teeth removed and need a few days to rest.

Huh, didn't know you had any. Anyways, enjoy your bed rest, it is always nice to take a break lying in bed. You might even get some great ideas.

(Fun fact: I'm missing one of those "Skinny Teeth" or whatever it's called.)

Unlike the theme of this level, there's no rush. Take your time.

Also, I got my wisdom teeth out a few years ago. While it was super-painful and made me basically invalid for the better part of a week, I'm really glad I had it done. Super worth it.
