a few things

I think the site could benefit from

img{max-width: 800px; height: auto;}

Because it's a little annoying when someone posts a huge image that wrecks the entire page's layout.

Also I noticed here and on Jul that < style> tags aren't sanitized anywhere. Is it suppose to be like that?

This is the best post
<img width=100%> does the trick too, anyway.
Sometimes it's also for comedic value.
width100% only works when the image is guaranteed to be wider. if it isnt then it just gets stretched to the full width

so maxwidth would be a better solution. though large images arent posted often, so its not really something to worry about

No, they're not filtered and you are able to do whatever. This doesn't mean you can though. It is against the rules to do anything that affects the layout of the site or gives you a fake custom title, username colour and so on. Doing so will get it nuked and if it continues probably banned.
The only tags you will not be able to use are script and iframe.
Other than that, everything is fair game to style your posts or layout (that's how layouts work to begin with), as long as you don't overflow outside of your post box.

Also Torchkas pls, it'd be <img style="max-width: 100%;" src="url here" />.
Your layout has been removed.
All of the large images I've ever posted got a scrollbar even on a 1080p screen. Unless you're on a 4K screen, you really wouldn't notice that I'm using width instead of maxwidth.
Thanks for bringing up a "better" method though, I'll use that from now on.
