What-a-Blast - New Intro! and overworld revamp?

Standard

------(everything else below in this post is outdated, please see my latest post for recent progress!!!)-------

So I got prepped up a revamping to my own graphics, a new hack called "Blast!".

The Intro and Overworld is still not done yet, but it's getting there. So for now, here is not the first level, but your house and the Tutorial Stage. In order to start your journey, you must first complete this.

1-0 Home

(updates will have commentary/videos if neccessary)
Not bad for the tutorial and I like (those graphics!) what you did here.

Just asking, but how long is this being planned to be?
Sponsored by your local carniceria
these graphics are looking rather unique; the main character reminds of a hack i've played quite a while back called super chocolate - the insane islands.

you've made a typo on the last screenshot: "suprise" should be "surprise".

looking forward to this!
My Inspiring Quotes on Personal Growth and Change:

"Resolved financial/personal problems equal greater growth!"

"The only constant thing in life is change; nothing is set in stone. The old is replaced with the new. Forgive yourself for past mistakes. When many different problems in your life are resolved (personal, financial, etc.), newfound strength and confidence is gained in the process. Usually, failures, lack of assertiveness, disappointments, incompetence, low self-esteem and lack of self-respect, financial struggles, and setbacks can cause us to change and take action to solve any problem, leading to increased strength and confidence. This you learn from experience.

I have been experiencing this aforementioned newfound strength and confidence myself for the past FOUR to EIGHT years or so, getting stronger with each passing year, learning with each mistake I make and becoming more joyful in the process. Because of this newfound confidence I've acquired over the years, finding my passion is of utmost importance in 2022! You can develop this strength and confidence in yourself as well!"

To whoever's reading this, you are amazing and you are capable of doing equally amazing things. Gather confidence and be yourself! Say goodbye to the old you and welcome the new you! It wants to arise every moment, but you don't let it. Learn from your mistakes and never make that mistake again! Find your passion and live it!"

Finding my passion in life, but I may still be active on SMWCentral from time to time. Still enjoy playing many hacks, but I'm widening my perspective on life and opening myself to the new.

Both versions are fine, so fixing isn't needed.

Digging your custom graphics. The tutorial seems rather obvious, but it's well done.

The goal is 9 Worlds. I have it planned, so hopefully I can meet that goal.

Don't worry. I changed it to "Reward". It sounds much better.

So anyways, now here's the first level.

1-1 Twisted Terrace

In this level, introducts the Sword. Use can use to knock away enemies when needed. But when you get hit by an enemy or replace it with another item, the sword can no longer be used.

For those who don't know what's going on in the left screen, I go up a spiral to end up to an opening at the top right and Also TMA (to my attention), the little sudden brightness in the grass slope is now fixed.

The left screen show two crossing path. Currently I can only go up, but to go to the downwards path, I had to go to another path in the level, which was slightly more difficult. And yes, the "X" paths are functional.

In the left screen, I need to defeat the Orbils and find a certain treasure in the area to continue.
As for the right screen, it's the end of the stage. And since my multipoints are 40 at the top, when the stage is finished, the score will be 40*50=2,000.

Speaking of scores, I also have made the scores harder to get sometimes?
Why you ask? You'll see soon...

This is looking absolutely great!

I love your graphic style, it's really unique. The bright palettes add really much to it, although it might be a little tedious to look at it for a long time. Shouldn't be a big problem though.

The palette of the message box doesn't look very nice, you might want to reduce the amount of colours in it to make it look better.

I especially like this screenshot, the graphics of that chain-chomp-sort-of-thing look amazing!

Also, I'm really amazed by your ASM. If it really works out well (no stupid bugs or anything like that) it will make this hack even more unique. I love the sword power-up!

What you mentioned about score: When it will actually be useful, then it's a great idea. Finally the score will get some use. If it's not useful for anything, the multipoints don't really make sense since nobody cares about score.

Good luck with your project! Also, 9 worlds, I hope you'll make it. I don't remember seeing a hack with this amount of ASM / graphics of this length to be finished, ever, but maybe you'll make it!
This reminds me of Kirby's Dreamland 3. It looks really gorgeous to me. Hype.

Very well. I changed the green question mark into orange, respectively.

It is very well used for something. The multipoints make getting score easier and the more multipoints, the bigger the multiplier. (Besides, its only just a the time, but I froze it.) Eventually you will use it to unlock things if you have at least a certain score.

Suivant.

1-2 Rowdy Riverside

On the left, that Spike ball is actually flying, and on the right, is a strange outline that generates throw blocks.

The purple platform on the left is not just a platform, it floats and you can bounce on it too. On the right, It may seem like generic floating spikes that are just there, but they actually try to hurt you.

To avoid confusion, the sudden change on the right is found by going in a pipe. I am also aware of the FG clashing so I eventually changed it by getting rid of the black line. On the left, I push a box.

On the right screen the crossing paths are functional. Here, I'm going down.

That green square on the left screen is a hint of showing a secret item. When you hit a certain switch, special crystals will appear, and if you get all 5, you will get a Satchel Token (Yoshi Coin). And on the right screen I am not only on the main path, but this now introducts Dry Urchins (Muncher replacement).

On the left I almost get hit... and the right is the end of the stage.

I had an issue with the water and the status bar in this level, but I managed to fix it well. I also noticed the sky colors are different in some screens. I fixed that as well to my attetion also.

Oh boy, this hack surely looks original. I'm loving this so far, mainly the graphics! They stand out very well.
I only found the rocks to be a little weird though, it's probably just me who thinks they don't fit with the rest of the graphics at all.

Judging from the screenshots you posted, the level design seems to be fun interesting to play. I hope you keep working on this, the hack looks really great. Which makes me ask; Do you play on submitting a demo when you get around 1~2 world(s) done?
ruberjig wtf

this actually looks really good

props

edit: the blatant mario edit bothers me though

I edited it colors in few levels which is good, as the pallete on World 1-2 was a bit dark. But if I hear more about the rock graphics, I will change them.

Lucky guess on that. I do indeed plan to stop at World 2 in the demo. But, I will jump ahead and say the only thing stopping me from doing that is the bosses. I need time to construct their ASM. You'll see when I reach the first castle.

I agree. I started reworking the graphics. Though I am not finished with it yet, you will see changes in the player graphics at the moment in various screens until finished.

Continuing...
1-3 Hop Hop Hills

On the left screenshot, the player does a "Spin Dash" after jumping on a certain bouncy ball. On the right, I just barely miss that hopping bomb and head to the underground section.

As you can see on the left, Buzzy Beetle has not changed graphics yet. I'm still working on that. But on the right, I did change the fish to a swimming urchin.

On the left, we head to pipe that shoots us to the right screenshot, which has Excited Orbils (Chuck replacement).

This is your dog, named Satchel (Yoshi replacement). You will see him in few levels. Now the only challenge is to make few other levels Satchel compatible...

Unfortunately on the left screen, I must leave Satchel, for I cannot climb up with up him. But, you may also notice the keyhole. This will be the first level to have a secret exit. On the right screenshot, I find a Power Gem (Star replacement).

On the left screenshot, this section requests that you must succesfully jump on 8 enemies in a row to continue. I also let you use the gate to help you. But when you do it, you can no longer do it at that time, because I know player will try to keep getting free 1-UPs. As for the right screenshot, this is the end of the level.

Oh, and for those reading this, the next level is exciting.

First off I will show what the Overworld where World 1 takes place looks like so far. This is still in the works, especially the Layer 1 graphics.

Moving Along...
1-4 Pipeline Parkway

This level introduces the vehicle driving gimmick. You can jump too, but be careful to hit any walls or you will crash. When you hit an enemy, the collision will cause you to do a jump, so avoid hitting them too.

On the left screen, the lightning does make fire, but actually spawns lightning (In this case, the pipes spawn lightning).

On the left screen, introduces Orbils with dragonfly wings (Super Koopa replacement).

In this level, I made two paths. On the left, I choose to continue and wrap around the level to get the Satchel Tokens. On the right, I choose to end the course and go down to the goal point...

...which is here.

I am also aware of that timer/coin status bar glitch. I fixed it. It covers the Multipoints there, for this level has no multipoints in it.

I also fixed the Goal Point yellow palette for those who noticed (in which I just noticed right when I'm posting this -_-).

Wow this hack actually looks super neat! I really like your graphics :)
1-C Shallow Shootoff
The first castle/boss level.
Unfortunately, no new castle graphics yet. I am working on it though. This level may also take awhile to finish anyway. I'm just showing you the progress of it.

On the right, the human cannon takes you in what ever direction it points to, you press B and you will fly in that direction. But some of them move also, so be careful.

On the left, I attempt to hop that wall using that cannon. The thing is it moves the other way which makes it a nice difficulty.

On the left, I sort of introduce Electric Urchins (Fuzzball replacements) and made the giant one too. There is also a version of those dogs, but they act stunned (because of Dry Boned replacement).

Okay. The next screenshot is why this level is not done yet.

The boss is not hitbox functional. Here, you actually float up and down by pressing them, but the boss hit box must follow the screen at all times. I was thinking I could use LevelASM to makes the boss sprite hitbox stay in one spot while the level moves. But for now, the level won't be finished if that boss isn't don't yet.
So hopefully I can make a way for that.

As World 2... That will come soon. And the player gfx are still WIP too.

Also, thank you to those who have given me comments and notices. It's great to hear opinions. :D

Oh wow. #ab{O_O}

I've seen this the last C3 and really liked it - I also voted it - so I'm glad to see more progress on it! I love your graphics. They make this hack feel extremely unique, and stand-out from the others.

You know? I've said "I'll play this hack" and more stuff like it, but they were lies. They were all lies. Lies. But, I will play this for sure. Really. Unique hacks like this are really rarely seen these days. They are just another generic Mario hacks in my opinion. I love this. I really do. It looks like you actually put effort in it. If this doesn't get finished, I'll finish your life. >:o Jokes aside, I really want to see this finished. Good luck!
Sorry about the low activity, still waiting for certain people to send back a certain demo beta thing for this.

This looks simply stunning, like it's beyond the capabilities of the hardware it's actually made to run on. I don't usually care much for graphics, but these are really special. And, it looks fun to play.
GANYMEDE

Chapter Two: Land of No Shame
So I was thinking, for the demo of this hack, instead of World 1 and 2, i was going to do just random levels that are going to be introduced on a demo submap, because progress was slightly on hold.

What should i do?
