Chuckya 64 : SM64 Level Editor (In Progress)

Introduction
I decided to "organize" the topic a bit. So, first off what is this? TT64 is sucking and really outdated. No offense to VL-Tone and his creations, he was a genius and I remember him from Acmln Boards in 2004/2005 where he and HyperHacker were the first real N64 Hackers. BGNG cracked the MIO0 compression format. (Still can be seen on EmuTalk) He later created a level editor for SM64, which is indeed very useful. However, there are a few things which disturb me and maybe some others:

- Toad's Tool 64 runs only on Windows and Mac. Linux can run it too, but gets black sometimes and his horribly buggy.
- TT64 was created in the buggy and slow Adobe Director. Personally, I'm not a Adobe fan and I will never code any software in this.
- Again: TT64 is still full of bugs.

There are many other issues I have with TT64, especially the design. (No, the design is good. But the person who first sees it, is probably extremely confused.)

My goal is to keep my level editor very clean. I'm going to use a few custom designs like for the camera button and the object movement button and maybe for top view, bottom view, etc. But there won't be an overuse of custom designs like it happened in TT64. You may agree or not agree to this. But trust me. Many will profit from it later when the design looks simple and easy.

My main goals for my level editor are:

- Cross-Platform (should run on Linux, Mac OS, Windows and maybe other OS)
- Implementing some "custom" features which TT64 didn't have or were planned but never added cause VL-Tone gave up on the project. (Except the Level Importer feature. Use Skelux's Level Importer for this)
- (Personal Thing): Keeping the codebase clean and structured. So, in case if someone gets the source code, they actually may be able to extend it. (Maybe): I should add a kind of "plugin" feature, so people can code some plugins for the level editor.
- Perfomance and fast tool. No slowdowns.

Current progress:

(Testing out OpenGL API)

Yeah what else to say? Stay tuned.

Mod edit: Fixed table stretch.

Wow mang! This looks promising.
I have an idea for movement and camera controls, you could use a gamecube joystick as a way to move, and c-stick for camera movement. Of course there would be other ways to move, but this would be like this thing in TT64.

Here are some I just made, I could also do some more realistic and shaded versions if wanted.

Wow that looks good. I'd suggest making a staff list on the first post, just to make it a bit more organized. If you ever need me to draw up anything like blueprints for design or just graphics for buttons and such just message me and I'll work on it. :)

Looks great so far, can't wait for it. I hope it has the option to orbit around objects as well as dropping them like in TT64. Other 3D level editors don't have those features.

By the way, I'm very sorry to ask this, but do you mind coming up with a different name for the tool? It's just that it doesn't sound as 'recognizable' as a name like Toad's Tool 64 for example. I'm afraid that average users will miss the fact that it's for a Mario game #ab{:S}

How does this work for the search bar, just whipped this up :)
It's hard to see the background, just copy the URL and paste it in a new window.

Honestly, I don't like the name. I feel something like Toads Tool Advanced, or Mario 64 Unlocked would sound better than CaJE64, I don't know, that name just sounds bland to me.

It looks nice, but do you think a gradient might help maintain the glass' reflection? Sorry if I'm nit picky. Is it better, or would you rather keep your other design? It could be a little too bright...
Whatever Tarek likes better, but I do agree, that gradient looks better.

Mh, well any ideas? I had:

- Mario's Toolkit
- The better Toad's Tool 64 (sounds too cliché to me)
- Chuckya's Tool 64 (as Chuckya is unique to SM64, and is the best reference to the game "SM64"... So. Chuckya only appeared in SM64 and SM64DS.)
- Grindel's Granary.

I like Mario's Toolkit and Chuckya's Tool 64 the best personally.

Bowser's Builder?

(As a joke to just who builds his castles all the time lol.....)

KoopaShell 64

Toad's Tool 64 -Advanced edition

Mario's Tool 64

Battlefield 64

Tarek64.

Also I could draw up some button icons and such just let me know what you need.

Suggestion: if possible incorperate a text editor into it, and maybe some other small tools like the rom extender or other. The text editor by far would be the most practical and more worth while, but both would be great :)

Genius. That's actually really good.

Didn't cpuHacka have an idea with the name being "Bowser's Backpack 64"?
Very nice concepts there, guys! The level editor name should be more than Powered Star ! #w{=P}

Also for a optional suggestion, I wish that you could move objects slowly with the keyboard arrow keys than dragging 'em with the mouse, (I felt frustrated when TT64 didn't have this feat).
SUPER CRASH TIME YEAH!

Let's not forget Lazy Shell for SMRPG taht follows the very same idea: The weapon Lazy Shell appeared only in SMRPG.

But I'd say Chuckya64 simply.

Why putting tool? Lunar magic doesn't have this word... Neither Lazy Shell.

people... Toads New Tool 64.
Wow, there's a lot of good name suggestions. Here's a few I came up with:

-Bob-Omb's Garage
-Magic Amp 64
-Power Star 64
-Magic Painting 64
-Bowser Wand 64

I don't know, whichever rolls off the tongue better. I personally like Chuckya 64 and Toad's Tool 64 Plus best, but it's up to Tarek.

Here's an X that you wanted.

In the main post, he says that he had to get a couple of icons from the internet because he didn't have any made for him yet.
