Sounds dumb I vote to remove Alex from this project.

Honestly, even if leod's being sarcastic (it's hard to tell with him!), I do agree with what he said about it being dumb. Falconpunch clearly wants the Naval Piranha fight in a different setting than the original game; he should be allowed to go ahead and set it up so when the boss is finally edited, you can just go ahead and make any necessary changes to make it work with the setting he desires instead of setting it up for the original setting, then have to change some parts later after he builds the arena.

I do agree there's merit in leaving the arenas alone until after the boss's new mechanics are complete, but there's no sense in saying "don't do anything to the boss rooms until we're done".

Thing is, Alexander knows a lot more about the inner-workings of Yoshi's Island than a lot of us combined do. If anyone can get a significantly edited boss fight to work properly, it'd be him.

Besides, it's not like he is taking away the opportunity to change it. He just doesn't want us to waste time attempting something that is clearly beyond our level of experience or understanding.

Really, I personally wouldn't worry too much about bosses when we haven't even gotten any finished levels inserted into the ROM yet.

I never said "let falconpunch edit the boss", I said "let falconpunch edit the boss's arena". As in, just the level it's going to be placed in. There's nothing wrong with that, is there?

Being realistic, it'd be Raidenthequick.

i personally think it should be up to the person making the castle if they want to be able to edit it or not. if they do, they get to do whatever and that's how the boss goes unless further negotiations are made. if they don't, others can choose to edit it.

i think it's kind of unfair to not give the people making the castles the opportunity to do something themselves because some other people wanted to make bosses. bosses aren't on the sign-ups, they're not really mentioned in the project description. unless i totally missed something or it's been edited.
Very very very shortly, this drab, workaday world and everything in it will be changed forever! Follow us into the golden country, into the empire of the senseless!
Alex and Raiden plan to actually edit some of the bosses, as in, ASM-wise, not the Arena.
Meaning as long as the arena works just like it did in vanilla YI, there should be no problem with people editing their castle's arena while still giving them all the freedom for edits.

then that should be mentioned in the project description and signups threads

Here are some silly questions, since i'm kinda new:

-How do i claim a level?
-How do i send a level when i finish it?
-Is there a specific level i have to edit or i can adit any king of level?
-And obviously, if the level isn't any good, will it be rejected? (well this is an abvious one i suppose, but just to be sure i'll ask)
1) You would post in the thread for it. You're too late though since every level is already claimed.
2) Post an IPS in the thread you made for it, but see above.
3) Specific level. The one you claimed.
4) Yes.
Check the "Level Signups" thread regularly. I'm going to start editing the title with levels which are free/have opened up, so if you see one there, you can make a post and claim it.
I'd just like to go ahead and warn everyone: If you're working on a level and it starts raining outside, close GE immediately. 'Cause if it's open, unsaved, and the power goes out, kiss your ROM goodbye! I just learned that the hard way. Turned my computer back on to find that my entire ROM is now nothing but zeroes. Thank goodness I made that .ips when I did. Better to have to redo some than have to redo ALL...

If it is at all possible, I'd like to ask that the general populace designing levels avoid making speedrun sections involving the chomp? In a certain YI hack on W6, I've run into two of these in one level and the SLIGHTEST mistake would make me end up doing the whole thing over again, and even then, with savestates, I would spam in one spot... What I mean is, avoid using those chasing chomps with those perfectly timed fireballs that float up and down and tap taps on singular platforms...

I've used a shark chomp but there's a lot of let involved and it doesn't make up the entirety of the section: just the end part. I'm not very good at YI, and I can fairly consistently beat the run stateless - the whole section stateless in fact - so I definitely wouldn't call it speedrun-worthy. It's possible to make a mistake or two and recover, and there's no ridiculous levels of precision involved.

Also rest assured I have no plans to combine it with fireballs or tap-taps on singular platforms.

Why do my chain chomps act all wonky?

Does anyone know the answer to this? I could never get them to act predictably and consistently either. They seemed to jump at a different time and to a different spot each time I test the level, so I had to scrap them entirely.
When you use anti-perspirant it clogs up your pores. If you clog up your pores, you're going to sweat elsewhere: on your tongue, under your ears, on your forehead. And if you block all those areas up with anti-perspirant you're going to get a breath problem. That's just fact, that's scientific fact. And if you block up everything you're going to sweat inside. And get cancer.
YI's Chain Chomps are really weird. They were only used in a secret room in 5-4 and I don't think they were ever intended to be used in an actual level. I'm hoping Raiden/Alex get to that sprite soon so we can figure out what's up with it, but for now, the only thing I can suggest is that you find a way to work around its limitations/unpredictable nature.
Oh, sorry, I didn't mean chain chomps: I meant the chomps that jump out at you from the background. Although I suppose I can now rule out any thoughts about chain chomps as well.

I certainly don't wanna be a dictator about the boss thing. This is a collaborative hack.

How about we actually, oh gosh I don't know, collaborate on these bosses?

For one, I won't have time to edit every boss, unless it's some minor hack, so forbidding everyone from tampering with them (esp. just the arenas) is pretty silly, Lexie.

EDIT: I started a thread for bosses.
Will we be allowed to claim sprite sets and edit them? We can also show a list of what sprite graphics we used so people can reuse that type of sprite set to prevent the sets from being clogged up.

However, these sprite sets should be left alone:

08, 7B, 25, 66, 57, 60, 68, 61, 65, 31, 6F, 13

These are all of the sprite sets for bosses, and if we change them, their graphics will get screwed up. Every other sprite set should be ok. (Also, for some odd reason, the sprite set editor shows the sprite sets in decimal instead of hexadecimal.)
Just so you know, I'm very active on the site anymore like I was before; I'm mainly on Discord now.
Answered that several times in this thread already. Once the first wave of levels is in and there are only a few left to create, I might allow claims on custom sprite sets. For now, just work with the defaults.
I forgot to ask before, but I am designing 1-4, but is it all right if I use level 82 since I use Marching Milde for the boss or will they just insert it w/Translexhation or something? I hope I don't have to reinsert it myself b/c that takes a long time unless they find a way to copy and paste the level data like in Lunar Magic.
