Creepy Canopy is a dark swamp level. Expect darkness, ghosts, Nep-enuts and (hopefully) weird puzzles.

Screensquarts:

Removing that blindfold won't help you, Boo Man Bluff

Between a rock and a swamp monster

How on earth are you going to get that flower?

I'll try to keep this up-to-date as often as I can.

Very nice so far! I was really hoping someone would use the Nep-Enut/Blargg enemy, so I'm thrilled to see it in action. Keep it up.

After looking through the available palettes, I decided on this sandier one for the pond area. The bright blue wood looks a bit weird, but it's not particularly eye-searing.

Some more screenshots.

Quick question regarding the level's music; should I use the underground theme or the castle theme?

Looking really great so far - I love that background gradient.

As for the music: the castle theme might fit a bit better, but keep in mind we'll eventually be replacing all of the default tracks with custom compositions. They'll have the same mood as the original (generally), but it's something worth considering all the same.

Dropped into the water

This is too much for one dinosaur to handle

It's been kind of a while but here is a demo, which ends around the third area. Let me know if you run into any bugs or things that need to be revised.

Great work so far. I actually prefer this level over your other one in terms of design/ideas/etc. Couple things:

This part in the first area was a bit dull/easy. I'd add a couple enemies to spice it up.

Yoshi appears behind the canopy. Could you make this a door exit instead?

This is a creative puzzle, but I broke it by bouncing off of the Snifit that was originally here. I'd change the enemy or move the wooden ledge to the left a bit so it's harder/impossible to break.

Also, I'd suggest moving the middle ring to the end of the second room. I think it's way too early.

A bonus room! Gee, I wonder how Yoshi is going to get those piranha plants! Wink wink.

Working on the third room. There's a red coin covered by those cactus enemies, but if you don't have any eggs, you have to take the lower route.

There are lots of piranha plants in the final area of the level. Throw your eggs properly and they won't be a problem.

Just a minor update to show that this is almost finished and only some minor sprite placement remains. Poor pink yoshi is likely to be eaten by a grue.

Hey what's the status on this? Thanks.

kind of finished?

ips for testing

the midpoints work and I'm pretty sure that all the collectibles are there. if it's short by a couple red coins or so, tell me, because I probably missed that while testing.

Thanks, I'll be looking at this tonight.

Excellent stage, couple things:

Was this guy meant to block the bottom? Felt kinda odd, lol.

This guy just feels strange to me...not sure why. Was it to introduce the fact that those guys are coming up? I dunno, just felt weird. All he does is go down to the water below and die...

If you come here with no eggs you're borderline F'd. I had to carefully make my way out and was lucky there was a shy guy WAY to the left (still pretty inconvenient). Maybe put something below for eggs, not necessarily egg block/plant/pipe but just one egg/enemy or something.

I'd like some more feedback before I just throw it in too. Please, people, feel welcome to provide feedback!

Great level! I liked how you used the blindfolded boos and a bunch of other enemies/sprites that you don't see very often. Also cool puzzles/secrets on top of that.

I'm just missing a single red coin in my second playthrough, though I forgot to keep track of how many I got in each area so shrug.

I guess it works well as an introduction anyway.

I didn't run into this, but I'm assuming it was already fixed with the addition that egg block a bit earlier.
Really well done level. It might be worth adding an arrow sign near the !-switch so it's easier to tell where the entrance appears, though.

I'm also down one red coin. No idea where I missed it.
Here's an update that fixes the missing red coin. I could've sworn I had all of them in there but I guess not, huh.

As a general rule, don't put any object or sprite that affects item memory in the same column as another one.
