As stated previously, we're aiming to replace all of the existing tracks with new ones. Thankfully there are only about 15-20 we need to worry about, so it should be fairly painless. On that note, Here's a list, as well as what's been taken so far. Feel free to claim something if you'd like to help out.

I'll kick off the "showoffs" by posting the cave theme and the map themes.

I'm sure Jimmy will post his flower garden composition later too, so that'll be 3 we have done so far.
This cave theme doesn't really sound all that..."cavey", if you get my drift. It sounds like it would fit these space levels that are popping up more than a cave. The Map themes are fantastic though.

You know, if you look in the YI ROM map there's a lot of "empty (filled with FF)", a few of them with a bunch of space just of that. Is there any way to take advantage of that for extra music, or do they serve some purpose that would nuke the ROM if changed in any way?

Personally, I think it sounds cavey enough, but now that you mention it, using them for space levels sounds like a good idea as well. (Though to be honest I'm not sure if the song itself fits YI's style, but I can probably play around with the song myself since SNN asked me to port it)

Indeed. I've checked myself and I can confirm that there is a good chunk of freespace located directly after the music data in the ROM. However, as of now I'm not too sure how feasible it would be to add "extra" tracks along with the ones already used in YI. (Plus there's only 2 unused tracks that can actually be selected from GE anyway, so yeah...)
On the bright side, we won't have to worry too much about running out of room for custom music.

To be fair, the original purpose of it was to be used with my space level, but given that it's just a reworked version of the cave theme I did for SMWCP2, I sort of left it with the "cave" title. Since we have a couple unused track slots available (as per what Jimmy said), perhaps this could be the hack's official space theme, and then we can come up with a more cavey theme.

Mmm, I'm not so sure. When I made YIKR, I exploited pretty much all of that freespace. Then again, I've been talking with Raiden and there's a bunch of unused graphics we can remove, so that would open up some room for some additional music.

I haven't said this yet, but I truly believe your tracks will be the most YI-like out of any composed. As much as I love the game, you've really got this style down and I know it's something I won't be able to match with my own pieces. Really fitting, and really good job.
Hmm... I gave the map tracks a listen, but I'm not sure there's enough variance between 6 and 7. In YI, there was a big difference between Map 6 and Map Complete; here, it's basically just one section got an instrument change. You also can barely hear the one channel that got added in Map 3, too.

I'd like to help out if there's anything left. As a disclaimer, I haven't worked with Yoshi's Island music before, but I assume the deal is making a MIDI, porting it over, then cleaning up the port, right?

Anyway, as a kind of evidence that I can do music things, I just came off doing a fair few tracks for A2XT, so there's evidence (and this is definitely not meant as self-promotion) at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGSUh05Pt8w&list=PLwRwFL91xCg95l5fm8BgvhcmxUdN41tiz

So while it's fairly different in the technology, as obviously I would be considerably more limited in YI, I think I could do it.

I'm sure a couple of the tracks on that list will open up, but for now, all that's left is Kamek's Theme. If you wanted to throw together a small jingle for that, that would be cool.

Hopefully it's not an insult to your abilities by offering you a smaller scale track - I know what you're capable of, and if something bigger DOES pop up, I'll be sure to let you know either here or on the Talkhaus.

I think it would be good idea to have the song from New Super Mario Bros. in the Nintendo DS version when you're in the big castle as the -8 levels, but this is just a suggestion. I assume people are trying to write their own music, and I wanted to help out, but I don't really know anything about writing music.
The music of the maps are okay, but why you remixed the cave music from SMWCP2 to YI?
Same reason I remixed the ice map theme from SMWCP to the VLDC collab - people regarded it as a good track and I figured it could make a second appearance.

..and at the rate SMWCP2 is going, who knows if it'll ever see the light of day outside of this.
How pessimistic one day after there's been major progress on 2 of the 3 pieces left to complete the hack.

This isn't a proper SPC: it's a MIDI played in a YI soundfont, since that's the fastest way to knock a draft together.

I feel like the song could use some more alterations in terms of staccato Dr. Shemp. Right now things like the bass really stand out for having the exact same rhythm the entire time. Just to vary things up a bit. You'll know what I mean when you listen to the original YI soundtrack. Nice work though, the composition is good.

Very well done Jimmy. The song feels very fitting for YI. I do feel like it's panned a bit too much to the right though. I suggest flipping the panning and seeing if you think it's panned to much to the left, usually helps me with determining whether my panning is good or not. Very well done though!

Ah, I like it a lot. It sounds silly (in a good way of course), but it fits Kamek very well. The bass is better now, albeit a bit too loud. Good stuff - if you have a MIDI, you should toss it over to Jimmy for porting.

..speaking of which, might as well show this off. Thanks @ Jimmy for porting my track.
Both songs are great.
I like the calmness of the space song.
You all did very great. I'm very interested, what the final product will look and sound like. Currently it's great!

If I get done w/1-4, would anyone be willing to make the song from New Super Mario Bros. in the Nintendo DS version when you're in a big castle or maybe at least help me? I tried to do it for the SMW2 contest, but I don't know how to change the instruments and how to add more to make it sound accurate. It just sounded really strange.
